在台灣的宗教民俗祭典中，規模最龐大，方式最奇特的「頭城搶孤」為「鬼月」掀起最驚險刺激的高潮，也為中元普渡活動劃下璀璨和歡樂的句點。
「搶孤」和蘭陽平原的開發有著密不可分的關係。開蘭先賢吳沙在一七九六年率眾進墾蘭陽，而頭城是開蘭的第一個據點，在開拓過程中因戰爭、疾疫及天災喪生者眾，魂無所歸者頗多。於是富有神秘傳奇色彩的中元搶孤儀式被引進，以表達對先民的追念普渡之忱。
頭城搶孤最大的特色，歸納有兩大特殊性。一般普渡大抵是超渡施食鬼界亡靈，而搶孤則是兼具布施陽間人眾的博愛襟懷，祭拜完鬼魂後的祭品由貧苦的人眾搶食以濟饑困。另一特殊性為搶孤極具挑戰性及危險性，非具有強健的體魄及技巧不能竟其功，過程的驚心動魄是所有宗教民俗活動之最，因此成為眾所矚目的焦點。
搶孤活動最主要的舞台就是「孤棚」和「飯棚」，根據史料的記載，頭城搶孤是在七月底關鬼門關之前，除了普渡之外，並搭建孤棚和飯棚各一座，以準備搶孤。所謂孤棚是由十二根合抱粗大，高約十丈的杉木為支柱，柱頂建一平台，名曰「倒塌棚」，乃是為了增加搶孤者上棚之難度而設。倒塌棚上豎立十三座龐大高度約十餘丈，形似金字塔，週圍綴滿祭物的竹編孤棧，孤棧頂端有一面「順風旗」隨風飄揚。這一座巍峨矗立空中的巨棚，煞是莊嚴與壯觀。孤棧安置完妥後，再於十二枝棚柱塗以厚厚的牛油，準備工作方告完成。
至於最吸引人的搶孤競賽則是在子時舉行，活動由道士將束香插在包子上朝地面擲下，這個儀式稱之為「進包仔香」或是「射包仔香」，而後步下法壇圍繞著七星燈，唸誦真言撒下一撮鹽米，並且吹動法角完成祭典，緊張刺激的搶孤於是隨之登場。
當報名搶孤的隊伍聽到大鑼一響，立刻上前抱住棚柱開始攀爬，無奈每枝棚柱都有七八丈高，又塗上了一層厚厚的牛油，要單獨靠個人的力量攀上孤棚，可以說是難如登天。團隊合作在搶孤活動中發揮到極致，攀爬孤棚的隊員利用麻繩絞住油滑的棚柱，並且以疊羅漢的方式，將第一名隊員頂向空中，使他儘量可以到達攀上孤棚的高度。但是棚柱滑溜大部份參賽者都會因為抓不牢棚柱而滑溜下來。但是在榮譽心的驅使下參賽者仍前仆後繼，拼命攀爬至棚柱頂。
搶孤競賽最困難也是最容易發生意外的階段，則是參賽者由棚柱頂企圖翻上孤棚的那一舜間，由於頭城的孤棚是「倒塌棚」，孤棚平台邊緣距離柱頂還有六尺之遙，於是搶孤者必需以雙腳夾住棚，靠手指插進棚板間的縫隙產生支撐的力道，將身體移向棚緣，再以上單槓的姿勢翻上孤棚，這個動作極為危險，非膽大心細、眼明手快體力良好者不能竟其功。許多參賽者在此失手自高空墜落，首名參賽者翻上孤棚後，先將糕餅傾落地面，由地面人群搶拾，隨即繼續爬上孤棧，爭奪棧頂所懸掛的「順風旗」。順風旗多為彩色並掛有純金金牌一面，最先爬上者以鐮刀砍斷棧頂的繩索，取下順風旗和金牌，才算贏得最後勝利，並贏得台下觀眾的歡呼喝采。

頭城搶孤即是漢人移墾蘭陽平原以來，所傳承的特殊民俗祭典之一。
透過這一活動，可以看見移墾先民的勇毅和血汗，可以察見人、鬼、神相互敬畏的意涵，可以發現團結、互助、爭搶和分享的移民性格，在搶孤活動的各環節上，淋漓盡致的呈現。
⊙搶孤簡介
What is Chiang-Ku Ceremony?頭城搶孤，慣例安排在農曆七月最後一夜舉行，也就是「關鬼門」之夜，各家備食施鬼，祭拜後將安置在高棚竹棧上的供品，讓勇漢攀登搶奪，除留下部分供品及順風旗以討吉利，並將其餘供品施放給各善男信女。
搶孤習俗原非頭城所專有，但方式之驚險奇特、意涵之明顯深遠以及狀況之熱烈，則非頭城莫屬。
頭城搶孤兼具宗教民俗、體能競賽的崇敬、詭異和激烈，不僅在台灣僅見，放眼世界各地民族亦是少見的活動。

The Announcement 道士發佈《植福金章》榜文，以頭城中元祭典搶孤大典各斗燈首之名?各方眾信，向無祀之男女孤魂召請共享甘露法食，並向仙佛祈求吉祥，同時警告天魔外道、魍魎鬼神勿侵犯壇界，以保法會順利，眾人平安。
⊙化食普施
Multiplying Offerings For Alms Services法師誦唸《瑜珈燄口施食要集》，振鈴召請孤魂來臨，接受甘露法食。法師運通神力，灑滴甘露，引使苦楚的孤魂開口，即所謂《放燄口》，法師同時示現手印變食，以一化十，十化百，施食十類、六道孤魂，在莊嚴的梵唱聲中，讓前來的孤魂都能有所開悟，解脫在地獄所受的痛苦。
⊙編紮棧殼
Fastening Ghost Shed Tower束綁孤棧，需要動用較多的人力，自願前來工作的村民，為所屬鄰里的孤棧奉獻力量，也藉此機會聯絡感情。
高度在四十三台尺左右(十三公尺)的孤棧，
將繫掛雞、鴨、豬肉、肉粽、魷魚、米粉、蝦、紅蟳等各種祭品，因此格外講究牢固。
製作過程中，除藤索外，連尼龍繩、塑膠繩和鐵絲也派上用場。
⊙安置祭品
Tied Offerings On孤棧上繫綁的供品，由各孤棧所屬的村里提供，為防氣候酷熱，供品腐敗，大抵選用魷魚乾貨，以及真空包裝的臘肉、鴨賞，這項繫綁工夫，鬆緊度得恰到好處，既不自動鬆脫，也不必過於為難搶孤人士才是上乘。

一間間給水鬼孤魂暫棲安身的水燈厝，隨波而去，乍然旺燒的水燈頭，瞬間化為灰燼，燃燒的水燈，在夾岸的鞭炮聲中，漸行漸遠，照耀水府冥路，將普渡的消息遞送到幽冥的彼岸，以便將孤魂引進棲身，等待明日的普施超度，在這火煙沖天，人聲細碎的儀式中，人的慈悲之心，往往也油然而生。
⊙孤柱塗油
Greasing The Ghost Poles孤駐塗抹黏滑的牛油和羅粘香，增加了搶孤者的困難。
因孤柱高聳，塗抹牛油需借重昇高機工作，塗抹十二支孤柱的牛油，大約在一百二十加侖左右。
高聳的孤柱塗抹黏滑的牛油，搶孤者可在此體會救孤魂、普渡野鬼之艱辛。
⊙搶孤序幕
Prelude Of Chiang-Ku Activities飯棚上放置一籮籮米飯，經由法師施展化食法術後，可變出數倍，以免餓鬼吃不飽，而危害人間。
飯棚孤棧繫掛魷魚，依例仍是攀爬獲勝者可得，至於棚下撒落的米飯，據傳如果及時拾取這些米飯食用可闔家平安，以殘羹餵豬，可以長得又快又大。
飯棚搶孤一般都在隔鄰的孤棚之前舉行，

I love music of all kinds. If it's good, it's worth listening to, so don't start with the nose-up-in-the-air over your favorite genre. Believe me... good music will always find an audience. An audience of sophisticated listeners will stop to listen to any good sound... even if it isn't part of your normal repertoire.
What is amazing is that dj's and musicians around the world know this, and they borrow from all genres to create their own personal sounds.
Here in Second Life, we get the results from around the world. World music mixes with the trendy sounds of the day, and we get the sounds that we love so much.

Today there was a media call at Hard Rock Cafe, Sydney, for the popular musical GREASE.
Producer John Frost announced lead cast members and organised one on one interviews with cast and crew.

Helicoid grease! this is what goes inside of some Nikon/Nikkor lenses, to give them that smooth focus feeling. This is fairly thick, sort of like skin creme in a can.

Since my grease car filters are plugging up at 600 miles I decided to
try "washing" my waste oil. The container on the right is unfiltered
WVO. The container on the left is WVO with a few table spoons of water
in it that has been vigorously shaken. I'm going to let the water and
debris settle to the bottom for a week and see if I get a lighter
color oil. If this works I can do washing within the 5 gallon
containers I harvest oil in before transferring to my long term
storage tanks.
AF grease for Nikkor! This is what goes inside of some Nikon/Nikkor lenses, to give make sure the autofocus gears keep working when you are trying to get that important shot. This stuff has the consistency of... well I'm not exactly sure what. It's thick, I can say that.
