Denny and Dolly try to graze on the short green grass. I think they need sheep teeth to get any of the new growth. I had close up shots of the three quarter horses but their manes had cockleburrs and they had rolled in mud. Close ups will wait until they have had time to shed their winter coats.
We desperately need a long spring rain to spur the grow of the pastures. We haven't had a decent rain since August and everything is dry. Minnesota has issued a ban on any outside burning. The fire department in our area is called out almost everyday for grass fires as people have continued to burn. The lack of snow this past winter has allowed the tall grass to remain standing and just a little wind causes fires to spread rapidily.
The balloon basket actually grazed the top of some poplar trees as the pilot searched for a place to land.

The horrific looking device on Little Miss' nose restricts the amount of grass she can eat. Many horses and ponies suffer from a condition called Laminitis, a very painfull swelling of the sensitive layers within the hoof, and this can be worsened by over grazing on rich, fresh grass. Luckily, Little Miss doesn't suffer from this condition, and we are doing our best to ensure that she won't.
I do like how this one turned out. There are no special filters applied. The processing is exposure and lighting adjustments only.
