Almost home after putting in a 15 hour day I stopped in Penn Valley to take some shots of a lone horse grazing in a pasture along Hwy 20.

Cow moose grazing in the shadow of the Kluane Ranges.

We had a foggy morning one day last week. I stopped for a few shots on the way to work.

This was a big pasture so this must be a VERY special clump of grass.

I think they bumped heads and some of that white rubbed off on the black horse.

It's film Friday, Bitches. Not nearly as good as Twinkie Tuesday, though. Probably because the film selection I happen to have left here at work is kinda grazing the bottom of the barrel. Get it?! Grazing?! Sigh. Been a long week. Maybe I'll post some more Susan magic light later, or something. Friday, thank goodness you're here.

This nice Buck walked out to within 20 feet of our car in Cades Cove. My wife snapped this shot from the car last fall. This is In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The whistling thorn acacia, like other acacias, has developed several ways to survive the severely hot and dry climate in which it lives. Because of the heat the tree must find ways to conserve moisture. Their leaves have evolved into many tiny leaflets (pinnae) which can turn to absorb sunlight, or avoid it and reduce transpiration. The many leaflets are also beneficial when animals graze on them. Some will be left behind to continue the vital task of photosynthesis.

This is what short grass prairie looks like when it is grazed, possibly by sheep. Even though there had been rain and snow recently, the ground was still very dry. The water seems to run straight through the soil without hanging around too long. Grazing doesn't seem to help.

When you get a sunny afternoon in the UK, you don't let it slip away. You slack off work and go out to try the latest glass you purchased :)

This is located just off the bike path in the Catherine Point Reserve area. Although it appears to be a fence for corralling cattle, I think it's actually just a piece of art, with no practical function. A search on Google pulls up some references to an artist named Tony Jones and an art installation called "Human Race" or "Cattle Race." That's about all I know, but I like it.
