I stumbled upon a number of sheets of presstype recently, I'll start posting them this week. This one has a few letters used. This one is the (in)famous Avant Garde largely designed by Herb Lubalin.
I've always called this presstype, the company that makes the stuff calls it transfers. They still make it, although not with the wide variety of typefaces that they once did. This sample is "old school" the copyright is 1972.

Comment: This business card was produced for an aquarium solutions group based in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. All stationery produced was designed in two colours, so future printing cost could be kept to a minimum

Gala Program cover
9 x 12 in. 2 color (Red and Metallic Gold)
-The concept came from gala decoration idea of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. So I implemented a gold dragon element on red background and treated the typography in an abstract combination of: spotlight, Trajan fonts (that was in most of Hollywood posters), and chopstick.

FILE Magazine is a bi-annual publication featuring a broad selection of visual communication in the fields of graphic design, art, photography, fashion and moving image. Beautifully presented in a 30 x 39 cm hard cover with a full colour 52 gsm newsprint stitched inside. Each issue is accompanied by a DVD featuring short films, music videos and documentaries. A magazine to Watch & Read.
This is the original Rube Goldberg machine. How type was set back in the "olden" days, especially for newspapers.
If you have ever gotten into an argument with a linotype operator over how your marked-up manuscript should be set, you would fervently appreciate working with the software and computers of today.
