Quill Gordon (Catskills Tie)
Historically I love and adore the original Catskills Ties. I think a lot of the Pioneer tyiers who paved the way for us. Although I don’t fish the Catskills Pattern much, I enjoy looking at them. The Quill Gordon, named after the originator Gordon Quill is one of my favorites. I tied this on a #10.
The We’re Here! gang is appreciating apples today. This is one of three that we have on our little Gordon apple tree.
At Gordon Gardens in Gravesend: the centre is a pond (?) or lake, with seating around it. Anglers use it alongside families, picnicing, feeding the various birds (mainly pigeons and seagulls, also ducks, geese and swans) and sometimes drinkers...
Also a lot of flower beds, currently in early spring mode and trees.
The Council's publicity refers to the pond as a lake: apparently a lake has places where the sun cannot reach the bottom, while a pond does not. Good to know.

On 3rd October 2018, Prussian 'T16.1' Class 0-10-0 tank 94 1538 runs through the closed Schmiedefeld station with a special public holiday working between Schleusingerneundorf and Rennsteig. Two decades of tree growth since its closure by DB have left it looking in a very sorry state. The railway first came to Schmiedefeld in 1904 after which it grew as a popular spa resort for convalescing, hiking and cross-country skiing. Post-war during the GDR-era, Schmiedefeld, being located high in the Thuringian Forest, was a popular holiday destination, and it was served by through holiday trains from Berlin. Even in 1990/1991 it as still served by a return through train service from Magdeburg. During the communist era, East German holidaymakers would flock to Schmiedefeld to rented accommodation and holiday homes, many unable to travel further afield from the GDR. After the end of communism, express trains still ran along this secondary railway through Schmiedefeld between Themar and Erfurt, although freight traffic on this route ceased at the end of 1993. Scheduled DB passenger services ended on the line in May 1998. The line, still connected to the DB national network, is now owned by the private Rennsteigbahn freight operating company, which commenced operating services around the DB network from 2003. As well as providing the safety case for the tourist operations with private historic locomotives and carriages, it has also recently operated timber trains along sections of the Rennsteigbahn, and there's clearly no shortage of that commodity!

This monument, situated in Queen's Park, is dedicated to General Charles George Gordon, slain at Khartoum 26 January 1885. The monument was erected by public subscription and was unveiled on 15 October 1885, nine months after his death. It stands on a mound, nearly 50 feet high. There are four columns of Aberdeen granite on a marble base and surmounted by a floriated capital and a cross. It is Grade II listed.

It's that time of the year, when I bombard photos from my latest trip to Tasmania. But how can I not when there are places like this to share with you all. I took this while on a cruise down the Gordon River. The water was like a mirror. via 500px ift.tt/1ZsP27q
I couldn't find a walking tour that featured the buildings on this part of Gordon Street so I can't say much about these.
CN 2687 leads the pretty much daily '474' train, at Berry Mills, approaching it's final destination of Gordon Yard, in Moncton, New Brunswick. This train met a westbound '305' freight at 'Pangburn', with is roughly mile 27 of the Napadogan Subdivision.
Not much Fall left on the trees. Wind gusts over the last few days have dropped most of the leaves to the ground. Next up, snow. Oh boy!

Gordon Parks, The Man
for years I've wanted to try to duplicate this self portrait he took and was reluctant to try,
FB doesnt have enough space to describe this great artist but Gordon parks was an American photographer, musician, writer and film director who came up at a time when racism held many back from reaching their full potential, despite this his skill with capturing the downtrodden as well as high fashion models earned him a strong reputation that led to him working as correspondent for Life magazine, the Office of War Information, the Farm Security Beareau and Photographed many celebrities like Barbara Streisand, Muhammed Ali and many others. As a musician he also wrote symphony orchestra concertos. In his later years he shot feature films such as shaft and was an accomplished oil painter, I dont know how one man can do so many things but its well worth googling his life story. much respect.

At Adleman's Peony gardens, there are many varieties of Peonies.
This one is called Gordon E. Simonson. It was probably named after someone who really loved these beautiful flowers.
The extraordinary photography of Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks, 1912-2006.
Gordon Parks was the first black photographer to be hired by the FSA (Farm Security Administration) and the U.S. Office of War Information to capture the everyday lives of African Americans during World War II.
He later went on to become the first African American photographer to work for Vogue and Life Magazine. In addition Parks became the first Black filmmaker to direct a motion picture for a major Hollywood studio (The Learning Tree and Shaft).
Though he was also a successful fashion photographer, it was his images of everyday black people that is probably his greatest legacy.

At 8.00am on Wednesday 10th December 2014, a daily routine unfolds in the village of Arbaroba, high in the mountains of Eritrea, as children head off to school and ladies wait for the bus to take them to shop for their provisions in the street markets of Nefasit. 1938-built Mallets 442-55 and 442-59 depart from the station heading a morning mixed train, complete with local 'day trippers', heading to Asmara for an out of daily routine 'special excursion', a memorable occasion for many locals, some children on board never having travelled on a steam-hauled train. The pride in the railway and the prospect of a better future, shared by all inhabitants encountered, can be appreciated here, as just about everyone can be seen following the passage of the train over the viaduct from below. The lack of male inhabitants in these villages was particularly notable, either working away peacefully or in conflict, having fled the country for Europe, or serving an indeterminate length of time undergoing mandatory national service, Eritrea still being in conflict with neighbouring Ethiopia over border issues at this time. Happily, a peace agreement was signed in Saudi Arabia between the two countries in September 2018. Subsequently, UN Sanctions against Eritrea have been lifted and aid for the railway is now being provided by the Italian Government and diesel locos have arrived. The wind of change is blowing for this country........
