Stone on the far shore is Inukshuk
Inukshuk - is a stone landmark used as a milestone or directional marker by the Inuit of the Canadian Arctic. Inuksuit differ from some cairns in significance. The Arctic Circle, dominated by permafrost, has few natural landmarks and thus the inuksuk was central to navigation across the barren tundra.
Inuksuit vary in shape and size, and perform a diverse array of tasks. It is a symbol with deep roots in the Inuit culture, a directional marker that signifies safety, hope and friendship.

This is where Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet forming what is known as the Golden Triangle, mainly because of all the opium that passes through here on its way to foreign markets.
"$1.00 & Up" This is a repost from many years ago. Houston's old Tennyson Hotel rented rooms for $2.00 a night way back when. The New Rosemont, located in downtown Beaumont, handily beat their price. The building is still there but unfortunately the sign has disappeared.
Opened in 1959 and closed in 2005 soon after Hurricane Rita struck Beaumont and the Golden Triangle area of the Texas Gulf Coast.
The ice was heavy on the Ohio River this morning and moving fast.
What I thought was interesting was the smooth areas on the water that did NOT have the ice and the motion areas that did. (Making for an unusual take)
Single shot processed in Lightroom - best viewed on large.

Buona giornata

A dewy freshness fills the silent air;
No mist obscures, nor cloud nor speck nor stain
Breaks the serene of heaven.

After switching the fiber plant near Bent Oak and meeting a westbound CAGY turn for Steel Dynamics, the Golden Triangle starts up across the Mississippi swampland towards the interchange at Columbus with cars from the paper mill. In about a mile, the train will cross over an enormous truss bridge taking the ex-M&O over the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway.
locatiion : Kyoto Ohara Jakko-in Temple,Kyoto city,Japan
This temple,a convent of Tendai sect, was established in 594 by Prince Shotoku to pray for the soul of his father,Emperor Yomei.
The principal image here is Rokumantai-Jizoson,which is believed to have been created by the prince.
The third nyoin ( the Empress Dowager) who lived here was Kenreimon-in Tokuko ( a daughter of Taira-no Kiyomori, one of the wives of Emperor Takakura and the mother of Emperor Antoku).
She started to live here in September 1185, to pray for the soul of her son( Emperor Antoku),as well as member of the Taira clan, who were lost in the Genpei War and destroyed in the Battle of Dan-no-ura.
She continued to live here for the rest of her life.

Emperor Antoku
Emperor Antoku (安徳天皇 Antoku-tennō) (December 22, 1178 – April 25, 1185) was the 81st emperor of Japan, according to the traditional order of succession. His reign spanned the years from 1180 through 1185.[1] During this time, the imperial family was involved in a bitter struggle between warring clans. Yoritomo, with his cousin Yoshinaka, led a force from the Minamoto clan against the Taira, who controlled the emperor. During the sea battle of Dan-no-ura in April 1185, a member of the royal household took Antoku and plunged with him into the water in the Shimonoseki Straits, drowning the child emperor rather than allowing him to be captured by the opposing forces. The conflict between the clans led to numerous legends and tales. Antoku's tomb is said to be located in a number of places around western Japan, including the island of Iwo Jima, a result of the spreading of legends about the emperor and the battle. - wikipedia

Early morning at the falls of the Brúará River in southwestern Iceland. The stunning blue color of the water is not unique to this river, but shows up particularly well here due to to a fissure in the center of the stream which funnels the majority of the water into a deep, bubble filled stream.
I just returned from a two week visit to Iceland with my family. We saw dozens of waterfalls (foss), but our consensus favorite was Brúarfoss. The reasons generally centered on the unique color and form, and its intimacy (although my sons would never use that term), due to its isolation and relatively small size.
The Brúará River is the second largest spring-fed river in Iceland, originating in the mountain valleys in the background. In its lower reaches it is renowned for its fishing quality. "Brúará" means bridge in Icelandic, the name referring to a natural bridge that used to span the river. The bridge was purportedly removed by locals who wanted to keep vagrants from crossing over to the more well-to-do side of the river... (#3)
等持院 心字池
Toji-in was founded in 1341 by Lord Ashikaga as a family temple, under supervision of priest Soseki Muso who was then one of the most famous landscape gardener (and who later founded Tenryu-ji). The garden of Toji-in is one of the few surviving gardens designed by Soseki.
The main garden is divided in two parts. The western one is closest to the main hall and organized around the winding pond. slightly above the garden is a well known tea house 'Seiren-tei'. The second, eastern part of the garden has taller trees and is thus much darker. It is a place of moss and maple trees. South of the main hall is another smaller garden, of the "dry landscape" type (karesansui).
Toji-in is located right south of the Ritsumeikan University which is one of the major campus in Kyoto.
location : Jakko-in Temple 寂光院 四方正面の池と本堂
Kyoto city , Kyoto prefecture ,Japan
Jakko-in Temple is a convent with a long history. Located north of Kyoto near the village of Ohara, the temple is secluded and the grounds are very quiet. Worn stone steps lead between a stand of old, thick trees en route to the front gate. There is a slight air of melancholy that pervades the place, which may be explained by its part in a sad history.
The temple is famous for its role in the story of the Empress Dowager Kenrei Mon'in, who was saved from death by drowning, only to lose her child and all of her immediate family when a sea battle against a rival led to the destruction of her entire clan in 1185. Widowed and dispossessed of all that she had once owned, she spent the remainder of her life at Jakko-in Temple, in a state of deep loneliness, praying for the souls of the deceased. Her remains are interred on the grounds.
Jakko-in Temple was home to a precious statue of Jizo, the protector of children, and its garden featured a 700-year-old tree. Unfortunately, both of these were lost when the main temple building fell to arson in 2000. In five years the temple was rebuilt, with a replica statue. In a parallel to the story of Kenrei Mon'in, the temple and its garden continues to survive, although much that had been dear to it has been lost.

I believe this sign was scheduled to be removed not long after this pic was taken if my memory is correct. I traveled to the Golden Triangle with MOLLY BLOCK and Johnny Waco (Jeffery Clayton), two talented Flickr members, specifically to photograph this space age beauty. Bridge City,Texas. 4.11.2014.
