A Rio Grande coal train snakes through the multiple curves leaving the east switch at Azure, Colorado, entering Gore Canyon along the Colorado River. A trio of EMD SD40T-2 Tunnel Motors lead the eastbound train on May 25, 1991.

Thought that a long exposure and mono would reflect the mood at Gore Bay today. No rain, so that was a bonus as shortly hereafter we set out for our Manuka Bay walk.

I got pretty close to the log to try and draw the eye in to that lovely detail and then on to the sky.

Navigating the confines of Little Gore Canyon, the westbound Rocky Mountaineer finds a pocket of sun as they exit the west portal of Tunnel 39. These canyons become difficult to shoot during the winter months, and I was lucky enough to find a patch of sun big enough for the train.

I was hoping to get a shot with a classic narrowboat but only managed to get a shot of this pea-green boat.

The boats moor up here to wait for the locks to open.

The Sandman departs Gore for Winchester, Virginia with a cut of sand cars.

A Winchester & Western crew builds their train at Gore, VA on a beautiful spring morning. The locomotive at far right is actually resting "inside" the Gore engine house, which had recently collapsed due to an extreme weather event. The remains of the collapsed portion can be seen at left.

Lake Gore is located off Pleasant Grove Church Road in Etowah, North Carolina.
