A Winchester & Western crew builds their train at Gore, VA on a beautiful spring morning. The locomotive at far right is actually resting "inside" the Gore engine house, which had recently collapsed due to an extreme weather event. The remains of the collapsed portion can be seen at left.

The town of Gore lies in Southland at one end of the Clinton- Gore highway. Sorry the airplane perspex window is not of photographic quality but you can get an impression of the town of8,000 people. Gore is known for its country music scene and hosts an annual country music festival. The dark hills are the Hokonuis where in prohibition times during the nineteenth century, the region gained a reputation for the production of illicit alcohol known as Hokonui moonshine. The association between the region and illicit alcohol lasted until the 1930s and has passed into New Zealand folklore.
