Here is my first attempt at a gingerbread house.
The gingerbread was hand made from a combination of recipes found online, and my cookbooks at home. The "glue" is also hand made using egg white, cream of tartar and mountains of icing sugar.
Fortunately there were no major dramas - except for one overcooked piece of roof - whoops! But the "tiles" cover it nicely. :)
The most time consuming part was rolling and cooking the gingerbread. My oven is so small, each piece had to be cooked individually. I also couldn't find a rolling pin so had to roll it out using a cup. Next time I will buy myself a rolling pin. :)
I am going to be wearing this one every day until after the holidays. I may keep making more for myself even AFTER the holidays! LOL! It seriously smells that good!

Spicy, chewy gingerbread men - a staple during the holidays but in my opinion, a great recipe for anytime!
Every Christmas there is a Gingerbread House Competition at the Swedish Museum of Architecture. The theme this Christmas was "Pride and Prejudice: Bake your own pride and burn a few nasty prejudices!" The two opposites fits together and are even dependent on each other. The white things are nowadays very common in the Swedish countryside: plastic wrappings with fodder for the livestock!

A poor implementation of a good idea, I think. And the basic gingerbread men, from a box of 35, look more like Sontarans than ood.

This Christmas I gave my niece the choice of either a gingerbread house or gingerbread men. In her typical precocious fashion my niece countered with, "Does it come as a gingerbread girl?" Hmmm, let's see. When I perused the offerings in aisles at various locations, I finally found a box with images of both gingerbread girl -- and boy!! As my niece undertook her design project, she drew on inspiration from the box/packaging, but was sure to point out that she was tapping into her own creativity and imagination. So here she is... "Gingerbread Girl."
