We were hiking in Kampar (northern peninsular Malaysia) looking for the Rafflesia - the world's biggest flower. We found this giant tropical tree instead.
Its not just the white sand beaches and the turquoise waters that make Andaman Islands beautiful. People seems to not notice the giant and very old rain forests that dominate vast tracts of these islands. Development always comes at a cost but fortunately for us all logging in these islands has now been stopped.
I also feel, and its pretty evident in this picture as well - that Coconut trees aren't really native to these islands. They have been introduced - after removing native trees of course.
You could see the coastlines of surrounding (uninhabited) islands being completely devoid of any Coconut trees.
