The giant sequoia tree from which this slice comes survived for over 1,300 years in what is now called the Sierra Nevada range of California. The full height of the tree, which was felled by lumberjacks in 1891, exceeded 300 feet. There are even bigger giant sequoias.

Back to Samuel P. Taylor SP for this shot. Had a chance to go on a hike and found this glorious Redwood Tree. The thick bark with the interwoven patterns were very intriging.
This is the second photo within my set with the title "TreeBase" (See below for the first posting). The moment I shot this new photo I knew the title because the prior shot I have such afinity towards. Not the excessive moss as the orig shot, but I think the deep thick texture to that bark makes up for it! What do U think?

We found this one while trekking along the forestry area inside the University of the Philippines compound in Los Baños, Laguna. We do not know its name. My son remained open-mouthed here upon seeing its size.
Will they going to make it for another hundred years? The answer resides within us. Please help protect our trees.

The often overexposed and digitally manipulated photography of Matias Masucci.
These were taken in October of 2014 at Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest and Balch Park in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains. Mountain Home Grove is a grove of giant sequoias south of the more popular Sequoia National Park. It includes trees such as the Adam tree, the 20th biggest tree in the world, and the Hercules Tree, a giant sequoia with a room carved out of its trunk.
