This vacant barn sandwiched between a storm and peeks of the sun, gives off a calm assurance that it has persevered through many storms. My German father raised 8 kids on a small farm, never had much and faced a lot of challenges. But he instilled in us a phrase, "we'll get through it" that still serves us well.

Thank you for your appreciation, Gail

Vacation finally arrived and my husband, Bernie and I went out to visit Bonaventure Island. This Quebec Provincial Park, located in Percé Quebec, is the largest Northern Gannet colony in North America.

Gannets are members of the sulidae family. Over 125,000 Gannets arrive at Bonaventure Island in April to reproduce.

They mate for life, each year returning to the same nest, both parents take turn brooding their single egg during 45 days.

The pairs greet each other ceremoniously whenever one of them returns from sea.

In October, the gannets depart for the Gulf of Mexico.

These magnificent seabirds symbolize lifelong faithfulness.

Making a portrait from time to time, makes me feel happy.

Especially when it comes unexpected: This lady was sitting in her window, looking for fresh air, which she couldn't find in her dark and far from airy city apartment.

Turned out to be just a smoke condition from a laundromat vent system.

The one24thscale team will return in full force, soon. In the meantime, Ken thought it would be a good idea to show you some work in progress.

Ever since we began the forced perspective experiment, the most sharp-eyed amongst our viewers have noted, "Your cars and trucks are all too clean!" As though, keeping your car neat and tidy were a crime for Detroit's sake.

In an effort to address this request by, oh let's be honest, mostly family members, some models are getting some weathering.

Getting Low - A green frog in the pond behind the Earth Discovery Center at Eagle Creek park.

Oystercatchers lifting off from the drained boating lake in the park. Every two years the local authority drains the lake through a sluice gate into the harbour. They then leave the gate open for a few days to flush it. At some point during this time, there is usually a littler pick in the mud, which is always fun. There are always small fish in the lake, so every two years some of the birds have a field day, as everything is easier to catch.

I took this shot a few seconds after my previous post!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to visit, comment and fave - I appreciate it!

The little guys are getting so much bigger. Had to get the tripod out to get a nicer one. I think a few more days until they decide to leave the nest.

As we return home, truly exhausted and blessed by another adventure, it is time to sit at the computer and see what was captured by the camera, in this case at 1/4000 of a second.

When friends suggested about a year ago that we attend the 2025 Calgary Stampede, the largest rodeo in the world, Jo and I emphatically said yes. I normally become nauseated at the thought of photographing people…but when they are being tossed about by animals…I’m perfectly ok with that!

Seats were secured so that I could shoot directly into the gates as they opened, a brilliant move except that they were metal bleachers. Capturing 700+ shots were the only thing keeping me from screaming out in pain from bleacher butt*!

As I start the editing process and deciding what to keep and what to share, I came across this shot maybe 20 keeper shots in. I’m leading off with this shot as a PERFECT example of how important it is in photography to get the shot! Sometime JOANN one must do stupid things (In this case a cameraman for broadcasting the stampede) to secure the capture no matter what is coming at you! The red shirt might have been a bad choice for that guy!

*Everyone knows that a bad case of old man bleacher butt is much worse than anything those bulls and broncs were putting on those young cowboys. It is considered by experts to be worse that childbirth!

Our city's Bon Soo Winter Carnival will be starting soon (Feb 1 - 10). Unfortunately, the weather has been terrible for the workers trying to prepare the children's Winter Playgound. On Tuesday it poured rain all day - real mess! Then on Wednesday, our whole city was shut down by a blizzard. So today, Thursday, I drove by and saw this poor fellow trying hard to get this area ready for the opening this weekend! Kids love this part of the carnival as is has the ever famous "bum slides". I hope to post more photos of it once the carnival is in full swing.

Looking back at the top portion of the John Haynes Ridge trail where we had climbed up from the North Prong Spur trail. You can see evidence of dust in the air, the wind was blowing through the night before and continued with gusts up to 50 mph. Trails were getting scoured of any loose dirt.

Thoreau once said "Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk with love and reverence."

I'm not on a bad path, but something significant is missing.. my love and respect for me. It's time to take that deep breath and jump, it's time to focus on me - not what others want me to be, or what others think that I want for me. It's time to be selfish and do something just for me. So here it is, my challenge to myself - a pic a day for 2017. I can't promise they'll all be good, I can promise some will likely be rushed, but it's the trying that matters.. right?

Not a new path, just a parallel path in the dirt. Lets see where this goes...

Dont get me wrong

If Im looking kind of dazzled

I see neon lights

Whenever you walk by

Dont get me wrong

If you say hello and I take a ride

Upon a sea where the mystic moon

Is playing havoc with the tide

Dont get me wrong

Dont get me wrong

If Im acting so distracted

Im thinking about the fireworks

That go off when you smile

Dont get me wrong

If I split like light refracted

Im only off to wander

Across a moonlit mile

Once in awhile

Two people meet

Seemingly for no reason

They just pass on the street

Suddenly thunder, showers everywhere

Who can explain the thunder and rain

But theres something in the air

Dont get me wrong

If I come and go like fashion

I might be great tomorrow

But hopeless yesterday

Dont get me wrong

If I fall in the mode of passion

It might be unbelievable

But lets not say so long

It might just be fantastic

Dont get me wrong
