An older picture but with some re touch. Radiance and a different perspective is always good.
Smile on Saturday
They really are the best house plants. I think this a Phalaenopsis orchid. We have 3 plants in full flower at the moment on a North facing window sill - so lovely to have in the winter!
Smile on Saturday theme this week is "get nature in your home"
Undertones - When Saturday Comes
I was given this pot containing 4 lily plants for my birthday, hopefully with a bit of TLC they will bloom year after year. For Smile on Saturday theme "bring nature into your home". I'm not entirely happy with the shadows here but despite knowing the theme all week (for a change) I left it too late for natural daylight today & had to take this with flash.
It's been a busy few days so forgive my lack of comments, I'll catch up asap. Happy Freitagsblümchen!

Dried flowers, for the "Smile on Saturday" theme; "Get nature in your home".
The heads of these tiny flowers are so small that they are immeasurable. HSoS!
These tiny dried flower heads are trapped inside of a large canning jar, along with a bird on a nest. It's a cute display, but rather hard to get a decent shot of. Since I live in rural Alaska - our days are dark, and temperatures have been running between twenty and thirty below zero for almost a month. Not exactly the weather for growing house plants - or even keeping them alive.
These may look like common Pothos plants but are miracle plants because they've stayed alive in my house for 8 months, since last Mother's Day. Simon is suitably impressed.
(He does impress easily - I know these are Plants for Dummies.)
My garden is currently a soggy mess after the recent storms and heavy rain, so I struggled to find anything I wanted to bring into my house! In the end I gave in and visited a local florist, where I found a spray of tiny roses and this is one of them. It's barely ¾" across and I love the colour. I look forward to the day I can photograph flowers where they belong ... outdoors. :)
For this week's Smile on Saturday group theme, 'Get Nature in your Home!'
The theme this week is 'nature in your home' plants specifically. I have lots of indoor plants so that wasn't problem :)
Stavros the cactus just had to be the star of my photo this week, he sits quietly in the conservatory waiting for moments like this :)
For this weeks Smile on Saturday theme: Get Nature In Your Home!
It cold and snowy outside so I had to make create my own little bit of sunshine today! : )
Have a wonderful day and HSoS to all!
Get Nature In Your Home.
As we don't have any house plants I had to bring our Stonecrops ~ Sedum acre in from outside, plant pot and all!
Then the only really good place to take the photo was with them on the back of the sofa, while trying to stop Izzy from photo-bombing the scene!
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.

The Parlour Palm, or Parlor Palm in America, or by its Latin name of Neanthe bella is one of the most sought after indoor palms around today. The reasons for this couldn't be more straight forward - It thrives in our homes and workplaces where other species may struggle and it's also one of the cheapest palms you can buy.
My Lithops cactus produces these lovely bright yellow flowers just once a year. The plant lives happily in my window sill.

This was a light painting of a small composition made by a plant given to me by a neighbor and a sewing machine music box, a gift from my husband. When you pull the middle drawer open, the treadle goes up and down, the wheel turns and the needle goes up and down. It is pretty special.
After surviving an extremely hot summer and a period of no water and neglect when we were traveling, this orchid is coming back with a vengeance. These buds are the orchid's triumph over adversity.
"smile on saturday" and "get nature in your home"
For 'Smile on Saturday' theme of "get nature in your home!"!
Begonia Metallica on a plant stand in our hall.
A local tea room/cafe was closing down after being taken over by new owners and the stand seemed to be at best surplus, so I made a ridiculously low offer and had it accepted.
Couldn't believe my luck because it was just the piece of furniture we needed for a 'plant in the hall'.
This is a quickly taken photo, more a snap than anything else. A bit of processing to 'hide' the background.

Macro of an almost flowering Schlumbergera bud.
I shot it for the Smile on Saturday group and I am sorry but I love macros so it is a macro again. I have so many flowering (or almost blooming) plants in the house, I love seeing everything coming to live again in January!
Didn't want to take it to my studio but shot where it stands: in the kitchen in front of the window, using daylight.

Smile on Saturday - Get nature in your home!
Euphorbia pulcherrima is a shrub or small tree, typically reaching a height of 0.6–4 metres (2–13 ft). The plant bears dark green dentate leaves that measure 7–16 centimetres (2.8–6.3 in) in length. The coloured bracts — which are most often flaming red, but can be orange, pale green, cream, pink, white, or marbled — are often mistaken for flower petals because of their groupings and colours, but are actually leaves. The colours of the bracts are created through photoperiodism, meaning that they require darkness (12 hours at a time for at least five days in a row) to change colour. At the same time, the plants require abundant light during the day for the brightest color.
The flowers of the poinsettia are unassuming and do not attract pollinators. They are grouped within the cyathia (small yellow structures found in the center of each leaf bunch, or false flowers). Nothing is known about pollination in wild poinsettias, though wasps are noted to occasionally visit the cyathia.

This is my contribution to the fabulous Smile on Saturday Group. The theme is: “get nature in your home! “.
Please don’t judge me!!!! I have only 2 living plants in my home. One is a small cactus, and honestly, I think it is dead… and it died a long time ago…. Very harsh and long “dry” season (which is approximately 12 months in my home, from January to December;-)) might have killed it … I’m sad because it was a gift but for my defense, I must say that this Cactus never liked me!! Since day one, Mr. Cactus was giving me the stinky eye!! I swear….
The other plant living with us, was given to my youngest son by my lovely sister. It is a crassula, I know it because my sister left a description of it with all the instruction on how to water it, etc.… Luckily, she gave the instructions to my youngest son and that is why Mrs. Crassula is still alive today! He is really taking care of that plant! And I wonder where does it come from? My husband is as bad as I with plants…. Chances are his green thumb comes from my sister.
And since today is purple or pink at Color My World Daily. This is also my contribution to this awesome group.
Happy SOS and CMWD to all participants!! And for the others: have an awesome day!
Thank you so much for your support!!! I truly appreciate your positive energy!! I wish you a very happy and awesome day!!!
This was shot after misting the dracena plant. I love the pink strip along the edge the leaves which makes me smile.
