Martha Washington Geraniums
Geranium pratense?, Untersberg Mountain, Berchtesgaden Alps, SW of Salzburg, border of Austria and Germany, 14 Jul 2014.
For this picture I sketched my Geraniums in pencil first and then used watercolour.
I found the pencil lines were too dark and it is harder to sketch on non-smooth paper. I feel the result was a bit grey and not as cheerful as I wanted.
I used Goldline Watercolour paper 200gsm/90lbs cold pressed. Ii used my Windsor and Newton watercolour pans so am not so sure which colours.

This is an evergreen ,extremely hardy ,fast spreading geranium which thrives in full sun or shade. Cut back hard after flowering and it usually reflowers a few weeks later. I trim it hard in early september and it will form a dense evergreen clump all winter and flower in late April or early May the following year
