Had to take a pic for the first day of summer.

Our German friends have now left the Isle of Portland to enjoy the delights of Cornwall - tin mines, the Cornish pasty and clotted cream. It was lovely to show them Portland, to hear some live music and give them a taste of the narrow lanes and hillforts of deepest Dorset.

So once again, a flickr meet-up proved to be a real success. To both of you......Prost!

Taking my chance during a window of 'flickr is working' opportunity with a double-header from two years ago in Belgium. Here is the second photo flic.kr/p/2jRJg47

This fine work is above the booking hall of the old part of Gent-Sint-Pieters station, Flanders. I presume it was advertising rail services to and from Oostende / Ostende. From there it used to be possible to catch a ferry to Dover. Once that bit the dust, in the final years of operation you could instead go to Ramsgate. Apparently that service also ended in 1997, closing a 151 year span of Ooostende-Enland ferry links.

Today was our snowdrop day. Each year, we visit Compton Valence where snowdrops adorn the banks of the lane that runs through the tiny Dorset hamlet.

Today after work A and I headed to Costco for some shopping. She was making all these crazy phases and insisted I take pictures. Of course i agreed. Here I had pushed her way out in front of me and she made this scream face.

An offshore wind catches the top of the waves creating the sea spray : )

Note : This is actually a colour photo!

Sea fret : "a mist coming in off the sea" "a sea fog"

It is a phrase used much more in the north of England than down south but the phenomenon is the same.

...as dead as a door nail with total electrical failure.

Three bus rides, a ferry and a taxi resulted in a replacement being obtained. An interesting day.

Decades ago, before words such as 'recycling' and 'repurpose' were in common usage, I was always impressed with so-called 'less developed' countries in Africa and elsewhere around the world who made the best use of anything and everything that they had. One example was using old vehicle tyres to make sandals. Meanwhile, the so-called 'developed' world was and still is chucking stuff away with abandon.

So today, it was good to find this example of old tractor tyres being repurposed into an effective farmyard fence.

What is he trying to say??????
