"Vielle maison en pierre- 1766
La "Old stone house", qui fait partie du quartier classé de Georgetwon et c'est le seul bâtiment pré révolution encore existant de la capitale. Elle est sur son lot original, le lot n° 3, un des 80 lots répertoriés dans le port de Georgetwon en 1751.
On pense que Christopher Layman, charpentier, a commencé à la construire en 1764. En 1766, sa veuve fait terminer la partie avant de la maison. La partie arrière et le premier étage ont été construits plus tard, par d'autres propriétaires. Le Service des Parcs Nationaux a acquis la maison pour le bicentenaire de Washington, en 1950, par une acte du Congrès approuvé le 25 septembre 1950"
Révolution américaine : c'est la révolution contre l'Angleterre, elle démarre dans les années 1760, et mène à l'indépendance en 1776, les anglais n'étant pas tout à fait d'accord, ça déclenche la guerre d'indépendance jusque vers 1781 . Il y aura encore des guerres contre l'Angleterre par la suite.
"second story" = 1er étage, car aux Etats Unis, le mot "rez de chaussée" n'existe pas, ils parlent du premier étage, donc tout est décalé. 1er = rez de chaussée, 2ème = 1er pour nous, etc..
"service des parcs nationaux" = national park service (NPS) = monuments nationaux (naturels ou consrtuits) , donc fédéraux . A New York, la Statue de la Liberté, Ellis island, le cimetière africain... A Washington : Georgetown, le National Mall, entre autres. Ailleurs aux Etats Unis, Yellowstone ou le Grand Canyon par example.
Les NPS sont souvent gratuits, et gérés par des "rangers" qui font offices de guides, très efficaces et sympas.
Georgetown Cupcake- the cupcake part was good but frosting was way too sweet for me.
I do not know why they have to make it that sweet - I like "Chocolate banana"(not too sweet!)
I haven't been out shooting much lately, but I have been listening to a few technique podcasts so I pulled out some photos from my last caching trip in Georgetown South and decided to try a panoramic using Photoshop Photo Merge instead of Panorama Factory.
The subject is simply a field that will be a subdivision shortly. You can see the newer homes on the right hand side.
This was stitched from 33 photos, and produced a 58 megapixel image before I knocked it down to a more reasonable size for Flickr.
Effects added include a conversion to Black and White using the "Infrared" preset, and then I added a warming filter (adjustment layer) on top of the Infrared layer to give the effect.
The camera+lens combination:
Nikon D200, f/14, 1/160 sec, ISO 100.
18mm (Nikkor 18-200 VRII)
Manual exposure set to keep it consistent across the photos.
Georgetown RR. MP15's #9010 & 9011 are running around their train at Georgetown, TX on April 4, 2008. The railroad primarily hauls stone from a large quarry to a connection with the UP.(misc60887b)
This is the Old Stone School House in Georgetown Maine. A one room schoolhouse that has been preserved by the town.
Stayed just across from Georgetown a few weeks ago so one evening i walked over the Key Bridge to find a place for dinner and take some shots of the area as the sunset.
