You won't find Cascade Hollow on most maps. Which, if you think about it, may be a blessing in disguise. Living a ways off the beaten path has its advantages. In 1870, George A. Dickel made his first bottle of Tennessee Whisky in Cascade Hollow. Today, George Dickel Tennessee Whisky is handcrafted with the same quality and attention to detail. And Cascade Hollow is still a place where time is measured in years. While we are tucked away in the Tennessee hills, we do love having people stop by to visit. All tours are free.

My Husband calls me a WalMart junkie. I guess this set of pictures proves it. Everything you see in these pictures is George brand clothing (boots, tights, dress, blouse) purchased from WalMart.
Born George Edward Cole in Tooting, London.
His successful film career began in the 1940s, appearing with Alastair Sim and Sir John Mills in the film Cottage to Let (1941). Further success came throughout the 1950s and 1960s, where he played the part of "Flash Harry" in the popular "St Trinians" films, alongside his close friend and mentor, Alastair Sim. By 1963, Hollywood had recognized the talents of Cole and he was cast in the iconic film, Cleopatra (1963), starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison. During the 1970s, George continued to star in films and television programmes, becoming a regular and sought after actor. It is interesting to note that, in 1971, he appeared with Dennis Waterman (who would later become his Minder (1979) co-star) in the horror film, Fright (1971). In 1979, Cole was cast as the hapless "Arthur Daley", a self-professed entrepreneur in the ITV drama Minder (1979), a role he played until 1994. The role showcased Cole's acting prowess and brought him to the attention of a younger audience.

When George's Grandmamma was told
That George had been as good as gold,
She promised in the afternoon
To buy him an Immense BALLOON.
And so she did; but when it came,
It got into the candle flame,
And being of a dangerous sort
Exploded with a loud report!
The lights went out! The windows broke!
The room was filled with reeking smoke.
And in the darkness shrieks and yells
Were mingled with electric bells,
And falling masonry and groans,
And crunching, as of broken bones,
And dreadful shrieks, when, worst of all,
The house itself began to fall!
It tottered, shuddering to and fro,
Then crashed into the street below-
Which happened to be Savile Row.
When help arrived, among the dead
Were Cousin Mary, Little Fred,
The Footmen (both of them), the Groom,
The man that cleaned the Billiard-Room,
The Chaplain, and the Still-Room Maid.
And I am dreadfully afraid
That Monsieur Champignon, the Chef,
Will now be permanently deaf-
And both his aides are much the same;
While George, who was in part to blame,
Received, you will regret to hear,
A nasty lump behind the ear.
The moral is that little boys
Should not be given dangerous toys.

George Stroumboulopoulos from the Hour on CBC talking about urban agriculture in Detroit, during his "Mile a minute" segment. It was a good piece that I was pleased to hear, talking about Detroit dealing with its disaster in an innovative way. Nice work.
The photo behind him for most of his piece is a shot I took in 1983. On the one hand it was great to hear that some of my work was hitting the media in some form, on the other hand it was lifted off of flickr without permission or attribution of the shot. I ain't no complainer but I wrote an email. A polite young staffer apologized.

French postcard in the Les Vedettes du Cinéma series by Editions Filma, no. 24.
Georges Melchior (1889-1944) was a French film actor, active in French cinema between 1911 and 1937, and known for the Fantômas serials by Louis Feuillade (1913-1914), and L'Atlantide (1921).
This is the statue which stands in the middle of the town centre in Nuneaton. George Eliot was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans a Victorian Novelist who wrote novels such as "Silas Marner", "Middlemarch" and "Mill On The Floss". She was born and raised on the Arbury Estate at Nuneaton in Warwickshire. Her father was a farmer on the Estate who worked for the Newdigate Family.
The elegant St. George and the Dragon relief on the statue's base, executed in schiacciato (also known as bas-relief or basso rilievo) is one of the first examples of central-point perspective in sculpture.
I've met George a few times on the beach during those past two years. He speaks Russian and some Hebrew, we communicate rather well just the same. Usually he drives a tractor to carry away heavy debris. Today he was working by the recently demolished lifeguard station destroyed by the last storm a few weeks ago.
"This is a good guy, he is OK", George said with a very gentle smile as I was showing him this portrait I took of him.
Yes, I do believe he is a nice guy.
