Geometry: I didnt think i would find something that i thought would be worth capturing for Week#33. There was a few, but this one this was my favorite.
Walking in Brugge, just looking around with no expectation to take good pictures, but the particular path of the storm drain, in conjunction with the two tires at the end of the line, and the little striped barrier convinced me that I could make something out of it.
The black & white helps in focusing on the geometry, I had to wash out a bit the buildings in the background, trying to don't drown the foreground in the dark

I took Geometry in school. I was good at it. Why the heck do I not remember one single nuance of it? But I'm going with a cube of concrete as a geometrical shape anyway. And I want credit for the physical exertion it took to lift this heavy thing on top of the stump. Especially since Mitzi and I walked 11.2 miles this morning!

GE C45ACCTE #5489 is giving some lucky chaps a bit of rare haulage, those chaps being the technicians in Geometry car EC-4. There seems to be a considerable amount of work currently being undertaken between Bakersfield and Mojave, ballast trains about, a lot of new sleepers ready for use trackside around Ilmon, Bena and Sandcut, a works train parked up at Tehachapi Summit, a Loram rail grinder in the area and a huge fleet of works trucks and plant parked up trackside by the old Tehachapi depot.
Note also the greenery and water in the creek, Kern County would seem to have had a wet winter this time around, indeed it was raining for much of the afternoon. I'm planning towards a late September trip later this year, if I should venture to these parts it's going to look very different indeed after a predicted long hot summer.

George Gill and Sons, 1894 "Gill's New School of Art: Geometry". This was one of my great-grandad's books, and covers plane and solid geometry, with a digression into graphical arithmetic, such as the calculation of square roots. And what a fantastic cover it has.
When this book was published, Queen Victoria was still on the throne, and Coca-Cola was first sold in bottles.

“Euclid was a Greek mathematician. He is considered the father of Geometry. In greek geo means earth and metria stands for measure. Geometry arose as the field of knowledge dealing with spatial relationships.

I wrote a bit in my blog today about how parents can support their students learning, understanding, and remembering some elementary math stuff. I picked geometry for this, but other subjects apply as well.
Geometry (Greek γεωμετρία; geo = earth, metria = measure) is a part of mathematics concerned with questions of size, shape, and relative position of figures and with properties of space.

I saw these circles last night and thought they would make a great geometric looking picture. It's amazing how many things you can find that resemble geometry, but i was not looking for these. I happened to look down and there they were.
