Or, for the more technically minded, a three dimensional cylindrical metallic geometric entity, with discrete cassellated protuberances ... The name apparently comes from the nut’s resemblance to the crenellated parapet of a medieval castle...! Macro Mondays theme Geometric Shapes.
A modern imitation of a traditional Maltese floor tile, unfortunately chipped through my clumsiness. The whole tile is 3x3 inches, so the shot is roughly 1.5 inches per side.
I isolated this air traffic control beacon against the night sky to emphasize its distinctive form. The minimalist composition and stark lighting transform this vital piece of aviation infrastructure into an abstract study of form and function, highlighting the unexpected beauty in technical architecture.
Happy Macro Monday everyone!
My submission this week is a macro shot of a small (about 3-4 cm base) glass pyramid ornament that we've had at home for ages mounted on a mirror with a black background and illuminated with natural window light.
This is the result of a focus stack of 14 images processed in Helicon Focus, followed by Photoshop to extend the background. Then Lightroom to straighten followed by Silver Efex Pro for a mono conversion. The resulting image was cleaned up (dust spot removal) in PS again before final tweaks and sharpening in Lightroom.
Created for the first London Mural Festival in September 2020, local artist, Camille Walala designed colourful geometric shapes, playing with the long perspective of the tunnel-like Adams Plaza Bridge at Canary Wharf, London.
The design shows an optical pattern that shrinks and elongates as it moves across the panel of the bridge – creating a distorted effect as visitors pass through.
Following the Festival, the mural remains a permanent feature of Canary Wharf’s public art collection.

This minimalist architectural study focuses on the powerful 'V' shape created by converging lines. The stark black and white treatment emphasizes the geometric purity of the design.

The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Lisbon is a biomedical research center specializing in neuroscience and cancer studies. Opened in 2010 and designed by Charles Correa, its modern architecture sits along the waterfront, offering striking geometric lines and open spaces. I spent a couple of hours capturing its curves, reflections, and dynamic light—an ideal spot for photography.

The natural geometric shapes found in nature are amazing. The natural curves and colors in this image are beautiful.
