The Poulnabrone Dolmen is a late Stone Age burial chamber featuring a capstone sitting on several 1.8m (6ft) high portal stones rising up from limestone bedrock. Below this, the tomb is a 9m (30ft) low cairn: the name Poulnabrone actually means ‘the hole of the sorrows’.

It is the burial place of Neolithic farming people. Carbon testing of bones excavated in the 1980s dates the Dolmen at around 3800 to 3200 BC.

Unfortunately it was a rainy day and clouds kept covering the rock. Still, it's a very large and impressive natural feature. But the only way to see it is from the highway, as there's no park around it or parking lot
