For Macro Mondays theme "rocks", this is a geode sliced in half and polished, intended for use as a bookend. These are fairly common in the Texas Hill Country, if you know what to look for (which I don't, this came from a gift shop). This is not a great example, as the cavity is quite small, but we liked it. This image covers a width of 1.1 inchch.

Reflets assurés sur la Géode. Un classique mais... trop tentant
Réalisée en mai 1985 par l'architecte Adrien Fainsilber, cette gigantesque sphère d'acier de 36 m de diamètre dont l'enveloppe extérieure reflète la Cité des sciences, le ciel et le site de la Villette est une salle de cinéma très particulière : d'une capacité de 400 places, équipée d'un écran hémisphérique de 1 000 m², le procédé Omnimax permet une projection d'une image neuf fois plus grande que celle du 35 mm. La structure de la Géode est constituée d'un certain nombre de couches, à la manière d'un oignon. La couche externe et visible est une géode de 36 mères de diamètre, composée de 6 433 triangles sphériques en acier poli qui réfléchissent la lumière.
Calcite crystals that have formed on the inside of a hollow in a lump of limestone. The photo shows a 2cm section of the rock. Pentax-M f1.4 50mm lens (reverse-mounted). f16. ISO 800.
This is the Elephant Trunk Flea Market in Connecticut. This particular market is a bit of an upscale market with a lot of high end antiques. My haul for the day was a large geode at a very good price, a bootleg CD of a Greatful Dead concert from the early eighties and a can of Billy Beer.

La couche externe et visible est une géode par triangularisation de 36 m de diamètre, composée de 6433 triangles sphériques en acier poli qui réfléchissent la lumière, un peu à la manière d'un miroir. C'est une salle de cinéma et une société de distribution de film.
