Meriwether Lewis CG. From left, Rob (riding a belt drive Dutch bike around the country-see separate picture), Ian (made a camper from a storage trailer with some solar panels on top (not the ideal spot, as mine were producing a lot while set in the sun and his weren't)), and Lee (from Quebec, camping from her van). Meriwether Lewis is an unusual free NF campground, with toilets, water, and paved parking spots, nice looking and well maintained, but The Box of Chocolates has to make an appearance. I came in and set up in a quiet spot away from a running generator. Soon, behind me, a motor home started his diesel generator and drove away in his car leaving it running; then another big motor home parked right near me and started their generator, and another parked behind me and started theirs, and a fourth in front of me. The national forest has now become a truck stop, and I was getting dizzy breathing exhaust, and really tired of hearing them...so many people willing to poison themselves and those around them to run their microwave, AC, and watch a bigger TV than they need. I am now considering driving to my next campsite choice, 200 miles away (because there just aren't any decent ones in between), but first I tried moving as far away as I could without getting close to the other generator who was in the other loop. Fortunately I ended up next to these folks who don't run generators, so it was quiet enough to endure, and they were fun to talk with around the fire. Generator people don't realize how hated they are by everyone around them, or maybe they do and don't care, I don't know. I left the next morning, this is not my kind of spot.
