This is a sculpture made from some of the remains of the homopolar generator built by Mark Oliphant at the Australian National University. It was capable of producing currents of up to 2 million Amps.

I was kind of curious how it works.

This was used to generate the electricity that lit the mill.

My family laughed at me for buying this generator. We'll who got the last laugh this time. LOL. I actually bought it for Y2K. For those of you too young to know, there was some concern that the when the clocks changed to the year 2,000 there might be some glitches including power outrages. So, for an insurance policy, I bought a generator. The generator was finally fired up...almost 12 years behind schedule.

Yakima Valley Trolleys, tram 1976 (ex. Oporto 254), Selah, Washington. Sunday 03 July 2022

The tram operates from the overhead along some sections of the line and by a diesel generator mounted on a 4-wheel trailer attached to the tram where the overhead is missing.

High voltage power supply in middle. Trigger generator on bottom (cylinder). Top box = trigger signal converter. Takes an optical signal that comes in from outside (orange fiber optic cable - not attached yet) converts this signal to an electrical signal, amplifies it to produce a spark inside trigger generator (one spark plug inside). The high voltage box is the equivalent of the capacitors. It adds high voltage on the triggers. Note that since there is a spark plug involved, the trigger head also requires a gas supply.

A good friend gave me this generator, therefore of course I'm going to experiment with it.
