iam preparing for a small generative performance this week. This patch is rendering 3d structures with glitchy texture, and PXN effects.

"Bridge 2"

STRUCTURES is a series of generative art pieces the explores the constructions of our world by taking photographs of man-made and natural structures and placing them into a new structure. This process semi-randomly fragments and rearranges the photographs into a grid of my design. I'll often run the images through this process several times, using various grid structures along the way.

As one moves, and throws some shapes, the image builds. Moving more quickly makes busier images. I had so much fun doing this.

Glow is based on a generative model from OpenAI, a non-profit organization dedicated to artificial intelligence research. In this application, certain external features of people can be manipulated using a controller. For example, the hair color can be changed or makeup can be added. The program is able to recognize which characteristics could fit with the face of a given person. For example, it tends not to give women a beard. This is partly because the training set did not include any women with beards and so the network is not aware of any bearded women.

Test images for a set of gestural works made using Processing. The sketch uses simple vertex triangle strips as form and a mouse input system for drawing directly to the canvas.
