Brigadier General Warren

The veterans of the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Warren’s first command during the war, erected the monument in August of 1888. The bronze statue stands on top of the boulder that he is said to have stood on when he discovered the Confederate flanking movement that threatened the Union flank. The statue, which cost $5,000, stands just over eight feet tall and weighs 1,500 pounds. A bronze tablet is set into the side of the boulder, and “Warren” is carved into the stone.

Warren reached this point as Longstreet’s attack developed on July 2nd. He discovered Little Round Top was unoccupied except for a small Signal Corps detachment. Warren recognized that Little Round Top was the key to the entire Union flank. On his own authority he found Vincent’s and Weed’s brigades and diverted them to what became the desperate but successful defense of the hill.

Warren was wounded on Little Round Top, nicked in the throat, but he stayed on the field and attended Meade’s council of war that night in the Leister farmhouse.

Longstreet played a controversial part in the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, in which he reluctantly oversaw “Pickett’s Charge,” a doomed offensive that resulted in a Confederate defeat. Longstreet later took part in the crucial Confederate victory at the Battle of Chickamauga in Tennessee, and was seriously wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864. After the war Longstreet’s criticism of Robert E. Lee’s tactics and his support of Lincoln’s Republican party—in particular the 1868 presidential campaign of Ulysses S. Grant—led to repeated attacks on his character in the South. Longstreet would go on to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Turkey and as a railroad commissioner before his death in 1904.

Everybody who already was building on a Charger propably knows what kind of problems come up if you want to have it minifig scale.

I can say that i never spend that long on a such tiny model.

Still it´s not perfect but for now i´m pretty happy.

The prequel trilogy has plenty wrong with it, but it did bring us a few awesome villians. Here we've got Grievous attempting to escape Obi-Wan in his wheelbike.

The General Cemetery in Spring Bank West the Western Cemetery now belongs to Kingston upon Hull City Council for its upkeep. The Council is also responsible for the General Cemetery but as you will see later it is very badly kept yet still visited by families to leave flowers.

My photos of General Cemetery will follow over the next few days.

The General Cemetery was opened in 1847. The cemetery was closed in 1972, and went into the hands of the Council. Some maintenance work has been undertaken more recently. But I could not see any on my visit on March 1st 2019. In monochrome

There is so much history in here and I shall be going back!
