Today's story and sketch "by me", I have just arrived at the crash site of a "DHC", dimension hopper chopper piloted by two Gawkers from the Planet Falondi, the Gawker brothers traveled through a dimension time space continuum portal near their goat farm on Falondi without fully reading the dimension jumping operating manual, which would have strongly advised not to use the default dimension jumping setting, which is only a default if you are on the Planet Soorthu where the DHC Kits are manufactured. The Gawkers built the DHC in their barn on Falondi. It took the brothers seventeen years to build the DHC, in their excitement to have finally finished building the DHC and to get away from their stinky goat barn, the Gawker brothers not only didn't read the final Ninety seventh and most important final chapter of the DHC instructions, which strongly recommended before entering the nearest dimension portal, set the auto pilot to the three hour Honolulu tour, and wished the DHC kit builders good luck, and thank you for buying the kit. The Gawkers also by not reading the last chapter, did not read the check list with recommended essential steps before loading the DHC for take off. First recommendation for a successful enjoyable flight, starting with good hygiene, a nice hot shower, a fresh clean flight suit, complete first aid kit, at minimum a one month supply of moon pies. The Gawkers first flight erratic behavior started the third week in worm hole nine, while arguing who should have removed the thick shipping protective window coverings, which made looking out into space totally impossible, then blaming the other for not packing beer and moon pies. There flight ended this morning when the DHC ran out of fuel and were hit from behind by an Intergalactic Transporter, then rolled uncontrollably along the side of a military battle cruiser, scraping off most of the heat shield finish, and that thick protective window covering, which made their entire crash a visible experience, as they were shot out through the Playa Beautimus stargate, sent tumbling and rolling across the Mojave Desert at nine hundred miles an hour before resting on top of the palms. Above you see Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Galaxy arriving to get the Gawkers out of the trees, and who knows after their experience may offer them jobs as test pilots, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

I found this scan today in a file on my computer. The shot was taken in April 1987 near Hugo, Oregon on the Siskiyou Line. In this image, the Glendale Hauler is returning to tie up in Grants Pass, where the crew went on duty a few hours prior. The job had hauled a healthy cut of loaded chip cars to Glendale, and is now going home cab hop. By doing that work, the local saved that evening's road freight to Eugene from having to haul the tonnage over two summits between Glendale and Grants Pass.
This image has a lot of the Southern Pacific that I grew up with in it. As I learned about the railroad industry, I discovered a lot of what made SP's Siskiyou Line so captivating was that it was virtually unchanged since it was built. In this image, we have a pair of the venerable SD9s that showed the last of Espee's steam the door when delivered in the mid-1950s. The "Cadillacs" are pulling a manned caboose. There's a wig wag "Magnetic Flagman" at the crossing, and a classic SP crossbuck.
The block occupancy indicators on the relay box appear to have been taken out of service. It was an early indication of the changes coming to both the Siskiyou Line and SP. Although rumors were beginning to swirl that Southern Pacific might be looking for someone to operate its lines north of Roseville, the idea that SP itself would be gone in less than a decade was unfathomable.
If you are a foreigner in a public area in Bangladesh, you will inevitably attract a small audience of gawkers. Mostly they just want to check you out, stare at you, ask you where you're from and see what you are doing. I was inside a factory shooting the workers when this little girl and her friends from the neighborhood walked in to see what I was doing. Her photogenic face caught my eye so I asked her to pose for me. LIght was streaming through holes in the corrugated iron roof above creating light rays from the smoke inside the factory. She clearly relished the spotlight while her friends standing in the doorway behind her watched with envy at the action. It’s a striking juxtaposition of her beauty against the stark backdrop of the factory.

My wife took this photo of me gawking up at the huge Kennecott Concentration Mill. The section in the foreground holds what is left of an ammonia leaching operation that was part of the initial refining process conducted before the ore was shipped to the lower 48 states to complete the refining.
In 1900, the “Bonanza Mine Outcrop,” in the Wrangell Mountains northeast of Valdez, Alaska, proved to be one of the richest copper deposits ever found. At the peak of operation, 200 to 300 people worked in the mining operation at Kennecott. The Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark preserves some of the buildings remaining from the ore refining operation, including the giant Concentration Mill here.

Over its brief history, Kennecott Corporation, with support from J.P. Morgan, Guggenheim and other New York financiers, produced $200-300 million worth of copper and silver.
