Bab Agnaou (Arabic باب اكناو) is one of the nineteen gates of Marrakech, Morocco. It was built in the 12th century in the time of the Almohad dynasty.
The name Agnaou, like Gnaoua, in Berber refers to black people (cf. Akal-n-iguinawen - land of the black). The gate was called Bab al Kohl (also referring to black people) or Bab al Qsar (palace gate) in some historical sources.
The function of the gate must have been representation, first of all. The corner-pieces are decorated with floral decorations extending around a shell. This ornamentation is framed by three panels and on these panels is an inscription from the Quran in Maghribi, foliated Kufic letters, which were also used in Al-Andalus. Bab Agnaou was renovated and its opening reduced in size, during sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah. Forerunners of this horseshoe-shaped gate with its corner-pieces, framed by inscriptions from the Quran can be found in the Mezquita in Cordoba. It shows many similarities to the contemporary (much simpler) Bab Er-Rouah in Rabat.
Bab Agnaou gives entrance to the royal kasbah in the southern part of the medina of Marrakech. The kasbah, built by the Almohad sultan Yaqub al-Mansour, is the site of El Mansouria (the kasbah mosque), the El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs.

Although this sculpture is officially titled "Cloud Gate", it is known to Chicago residents simply as "The Bean." Artist Anish Kapoor was inspired by liquid mercury to create this 66-foot long by 33-foot high, 110-ton sculpture. It is forged of a seamless series of highly-polished stainless steel "plates" that create an elliptically-arched, highly reflective work with Chicago’s skyline and Millennium Park as the backdrop.
This is the view looking directly up from underneath the center of the sculpture. It creates a very interesting effect.
The entrance gate to Feltham cemetery in Sunbury Road. Inside the roof is an inscription which says: "In loving memory of E L Benyon of Oak House, Feltham Hill, who died January 7th 1903. This gate is erected by his wife and sister".

Viru Gate was one of the main gates to Tallinn. It was built in 1345-1355. By that time, the city had expanded from the Upper Town. Tourists were streaming in both directions.
Hotel Viru, built in the Soviet era, is in the background. This was our reference point, because it was the terminal for shuttle buses from the cruise ship.

This sturdy stone archway stands as a grand entrance to the expansive parkland near Lowther. Its crenellated top and pointed windows reflect a classic Gothic revival style designed to evoke a sense of historical fortification. A simple metal gate blocks the path, while the surrounding green fields stretch out into the distance under a clear blue sky.

To get to the lookout, it's necessary to drive through private farm property, so there are a number of gates to open along the way. This is heading back down from the lookout, looking in the same direction as my picture from the top of the lookout

The Golden Gate of Kiev (Ukrainian: Золоті ворота, Zoloti vorota, literally 'golden gate') is a historic gateway in the ancient city walls of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The name Zoloti Vorota is also used for a nearby theatre and a station of the Kiev Metro.
This gateway was one of three constructed by Yaroslav the Wise, Prince of Kiev, in the mid-eleventh century. It was reputedly modelled on the Golden Gate of Constantinople, from which it took its name. In 1240 it was partially destroyed by Batu Khan's Golden Horde. It remained as a gate to the city (often used for ceremonies) through the eighteenth century, although it gradually fell into ruins.
In 1832 the ruins were excavated and an initial survey for their conservation was undertaken. Further works in the 1970s added an adjacent pavilion, housing a museum of the gate. In the museum one can learn about the history of construction of the Golden gate as well as ancient Kiev.
In 1982, the gate was completely reconstructed for the 1500th anniversary of Kiev, although there is no solid evidence as to what the original gates looked like. Some art historians called for this reconstruction to be demolished and for the ruins of the original gate to be exposed to public view.
In 1989 with the expansion of the Kiev Metro, a station Zoloti Vorota was opened nearby to serve the landmark. What makes it unique is that its architectural ensemble is very much based on the internal decorations of ancient Ruthenian churches.

Yaroslav the Wise Monument
In 1997, the monument to Yaroslav the Wise was unveiled near the west end face of the Golden Gate. It is an enlarged bronze copy of an experimental figuring by Kavaleridze.
