Walsham Gates Lock on the River Wey Navigation, Surrey. The last of the original turf-sided locks opened in 1653 that were common along the full length of the Wey Navigation. It is not a lock in the traditional sense. The gates are only operated as a flood lock to force water over the weir when water levels become too high. The gates at both ends are usually left open.

Capital Gate is a skyscraper in Abu Dhabi adjacent to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre designed with a striking lean. At 160 m and 35 stories, it is one of the tallest buildings in the city and features an 18-degree incline to the west.
This is my first post with my new Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 DX lens, and I am very happy with the results. The sharpness is much better than what I've been used to with my Nikkor 18-70mm lens, and the wide angle is incredible to shoot with.
This particular shot was taken out at Paquette Lake, from the shore of a cabin called Nature's Gate. A group of friends and I rented this place for a bachelor party weekend, and had an absolute blast. I wasn't in the best shape to take many pictures over the course of the weekend, but I did manage to snap a few before hitting the booze.

Haast Pass is a mountain pass in the Southern Alps of the South Island of New Zealand. It is named for Julius von Haast, a 19th-century explorer who was also geologist for the Provincial government of Canterbury. The pass was used by Māori in pre-European times, but not on a regular basis.
It is one of the three passes where a road crosses over the Southern Alps, the other two being Lewis Pass and Arthur's Pass, although the Homer Tunnel also passes under the Main Divide. The road through Haast Pass (State Highway 6) was converted from a rough track to a formed road in 1966 and finally received a complete tarmac surface by 1995. In the early 20th century, a railway from the West Coast through the pass to Otago was considered; it would have linked the Ross Branch with the Otago Central Railway, which then terminated in Omakau. However, the line never came to fruition; the Otago Central Railway terminated in Cromwell and no railway was built south of Ross, just a lightly laid bush tramway to serve logging interests near Lake Ianthe.

The Haast Pass rises to a height of 562 metres above sea level at the saddle between the valleys of the Haast and Makarora Rivers. As such, it is the lowest of the passes traversing the Southern Alps. The Haast Pass road is devoid of any settlements between Haast and Makarora. The road passes through predominantly unmodified beech forest. The pass itself is within the limits of Mount Aspiring National Park and forms part of the boundary between Otago and the West Coast.

The rococo-style gate was built in 1761 after designs of the architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz, and leads to the Basilian Monastery and the church of the Holy Trinity. [Virtusal Tourist]
It was the south gate of the inner fort of Walled City of Kaesong, capital of Koryo,built in 1391 - 1393. Originally there were 9 gates at the inner fort but only the gatehouse of Name Gate has remained. The Bell of Yonbok Temple, one of the 5 famous bells of Korea is hang up in it. Cast in 1346 and hung in Yonbok Temple, it was moved here after the temple was burnt in 1563. It is 3.12 m high and about 14 tons in weight.

It is not really a gate, and it is definitely not golden. Still......I like the ole bridge. It is estimated that there are approximately 600,000 rivets in each tower. I only counted 473,217. My wife grew impatient, so we left. As is typical, the day started out cold and cloudy, and by the time we made it to the other side, it was clear...and still pretty cold. These enormous contraptions still astonish me. I heard they designed it AND built it without computers. Does not sound very efficient to me. Regardless, still pretty impressive. Canterbury West Gate Towers, the largest surviving medieval fortified city wall gate in England. It was built in the 1300's under Norman rule as part of the city wall defences comprising 7 gates in all.
When I was a nipper the towers housed a museum of suits of armour and weapons - long since moved to somewhere better suited to their preservation.
The building to the right in the picture was Canterbury Police Station up until mid to late sixties - No 1 Pound Lane!
I also remember an old air raid siren that was used if a fire broke out in the city it was on the roof of the towers.
The River Stour (3 in the UK and this is the one in Kent) runs immediately the other side of the towers

Passing alongside Gate 11a at the All England Lawn Tennis Club Go-Ahead London General's brand new Wright Electroliner vehicle DEL 24 heads southwards along Somerset Road in the heart of affluent Wimbledon Village as it makes its way on the start of its journey on the special Wimbledon Tennis shuttle bus service 840 down the hill to Wimbledon station on the early afternoon of Tuesday 8th July 2025.
This is the south entrance to the land where, over 60 years ago, one of the largest industrial fires in history took place. The GM Hydra-Matic plant in Livonia, at Eckles and Plymouth. Even with the environmental remediation going on here, this place is eerie.

The Gate of Lost Memories
I opened the gate wide one sunny day
And you wouldn’t believe what I found
Why, they were memories I’d forgotten
They were so pure and country bound
Places I used to live were there
Folks from way back in my childhood
Buildings worn now, with great age
But right where they once had stood
It was like I’d died and gone to heaven
For there were folks from so long ago
I was small in my mind it seemed
Oh, and I saw family that I loved so
A dog that once had been mine
And the cat he used to love to chase
I was afraid that I would forget
So I made a mental note just in case
I hope someday I can revisit
These places hidden in the past
I want them to stay with me forever

One day coming home from visiting friends my wife saw a house with a fancy custom metal driveway gate. She said we need to get rid of the old chain link gate and get one of those nice gates.
I said those are too expensive theirs no way we could afford it. I told her I'll make one.
There were a bazillion ideas online so i just saved a bunch of pictures and came up with something.
