Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by British artist Anish Kapoor. It is the centerpiece of the AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park within the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois, and is located on top of Park Grill and adjacent to the Chase Promenade. The sculpture was constructed between 2004 and 2006 and was temporarily unveiled in the summer of 2004. Nicknamed "The Bean" because of its legume-like shape, its exterior consists of 168 highly polished stainless steel plates. It is 33 feet by 66 feet by 42 feet (10 m × 20 m × 13 m), and weighs 110 short tons (99.8 t; 98.2 long tons). The sculpture and the plaza are sometimes referred to jointly as "Cloud Gate on the AT&T Plaza" or "Cloud Gate on AT&T Plaza".
LGW Northern Gate 104 is the gateway to... (we generally fly from 107 for Majorca)?
For emergency service you dial 104 for:
the police in Belarus
the fire service in Israel
the ambulance service in some Indian states.

Rusted Gate Handle. I thought the rust colors with the shadows of the metal were so interesting. Asolo, Italy. Color photography by Donna Corless.
The Memorial Gates were erected in 1928, as a memorial to the students from the University of Saskatchewan who served in World War I. The gates are located on what was once the main entrance to the campus, and later Royal University Hospital. In the late 1980s, traffic was rerouted to the west, while the road going through the gates was changed into a turnaround. Wreaths are still laid at the site every Remembrance Day.
Published in the Royal University Hospital Foundation's annual report, June 2011.

Built 1937
Designers: Joseph Strauss, Irving Morrow, and Charles Ellis
(excerpts from the Wikipedia article)
"Irving Morrow, a relatively unknown residential architect, designed the overall shape of the bridge towers, the lighting scheme, and Art Deco elements such as the streetlights, railing, and walkways."
another donut stealer?
"With an eye toward self-promotion and posterity, Strauss downplayed the contributions of his collaborators who, despite receiving little recognition or compensation, are largely responsible for the final form of the bridge. He succeeded in having himself credited as the person most responsible for the design and vision of the bridge. Only much later were the contributions of the others on the design team properly appreciated."

This is really a special find for me. It has the ironwork of the Beelitz stairs all confined in a cute little gate about a meter long. If for some reason they really decide to tear Beelitz down, I am going to go get this gate... I have no idea what I will do with it... but it is mine.
There is just something about those curlicues.
The Menin Gate, Ypres (Ieper).
The Menin Gate marks the starting point for one of the main roads out of the town that led Allied soldiers to the front line during World War I. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and built by the British government, the Menin Gate Memorial opened as a monument dedicated to the missing British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the fierce battles around the Ypres Salient area who have no known grave.
Its large Hall of Memory contains the names of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who died without graves.

State Game Lands 42 are some of the strangest I've seen in that a large portion seems to have been fenced off to segregate deer. On this side, there has been a lot of logging and I imagine the intention is to keep the deer out until the regrowth is sufficiently tall enough to survive. Otherwise, Pennsylvania's large deer population would consume the seedlings clear down to the ground.
The flaw with that is that the loggers don't seem to have done any replanting. The devastated landscape I trudged across was knee deep in thick brush and thorn bushes. Trees won't have any chance in that crap either.
Periodic gates are set to allow hunters to access these areas (for small game) while keeping the deer out.
