This is a mask I made out of leather. Mmmm yes. The sewing took quite a while. Its a sort of gasmasky creature thing... Yes, it is indeed.
Those trunks/tubes-thingies are detachable through the inside of the mask and the size is adjustable with straps.

Brief note on reverse simply dated "1918".
An unremarkable field-portrait depicting four older soldiers from an unidentified Landwehr formation. All men have their M.17 gasmasks close to hand, suggesting these fellows aren't too far from the front.
I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to mean. But evidently it means a lot to somebody as they've plastered them about everywhere.

The Christmas holiday has allowed me the chance to make more progress with my second Steampunk gas mask project. The main leather part has been stitched together and the eyepieces and breather canisters added; all it needs now are the straps and further detailing. In fact, it's only having the hat wedged down on it that held the mask in place while I took this shot!

Landsturm infafntry soldier in spiked helmet with 8 in red (or green) felt insignia, M1910/15 simplified Bavarian miodel tunic (unpiped cuff with no buttons) and metal I B 8 (1st Bav Armee Korps Landsturm Battalion 8) on collar, FG M1903 binoculars, M1915 Gummimakse, Mauser Gewehr 88 and rare clear shot of the early short bayoinet. Electirc wires (7 sets ) on insulators run below the trench step below him (unusual) Vogesen Front.
