I love the smell of ether in the morning :-)

Steve patiently posed for me with his German WW2 child's gasmask that barely fits him.

Exposure was f/8 @ 8 seconds in open shade on quarter plate aluminum shot with my 1956 Speed Graphic.

Might be a prelude to something interesting. Probably won't.

I know, I know, enough with the gas masks already...

While it may not look like it, this a political photo to me. I feel so frustrated by the direction this country is going, by the growing opinion of our "leadership" that war is a preferable solution to discussion, that sound bytes and propaganda trump honesty and understanding, by the glorification of greed and power, by the gluttonous fattening of our children and our insatiable appetites to consume and throw away. A culture of convenience is a dangerous thing.

Today I spent most of my day worrying about things I have no control over. When I left work I decided I would redirect my energy into trying to be creative instead. I took a quick power nap to re-energize and then set out to try and capture the image I had in my head. The first step was to rig up green LED lights inside the mask. After that was all done I then spent about an hour getting the lighting setup and taking test shots. Then it was time to do some smoking..YUCK!

But I gotta say, it was great to have my mind occupied with this rather then the other shit and I am pretty stoked with the end result.

Random Fact: I am trying to look at the big picture but things keep getting in the way.
