The San Diego Convention Center is the primary convention center in San Diego, California. It is located in the Marina district of downtown San Diego near the Gaslamp Quarter, at 111 West Harbor Drive. The center is managed by the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, a non-profit public benefit corporation.

The convention center offers 615,701 square feet (57,200 square meters) of exhibit space. As of 2009 it was the 24th largest convention facility in North America. It was designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson. Capacity for the facility is 125,000.

The center's most distinguishing feature is the Sails Pavilion, a 90,000-square-foot (8,400 m2) exhibit and special event area. The Sails Pavilion's roof consists of distinctive Teflon-coated fiberglass "sails" intended to reflect San Diego's maritime history, as well as to advertise the center's proximity to the San Diego shore. The Pavilion was originally built as an open-air facility under the roof. However, the center found it hard to convince potential users to book an open-air facility, so the Pavilion area was enclosed in glass, greatly expanding the usable area of the center.

I think everything looks better after a storm. I took this on Saturday right after it stopped raining. The ground dried up a lot faster than I hoped it would, but still got a few reflections.

I was standing on the street corner when a group of Brazilian women (including Morgan pictured here) grabbed me to take their friends picture since it was her bday...they proudly called me their "paparazzi"....haha

more on this later....

We were not shopping, but many people were. The Friday before Christmas in San Diego, CA.

Horton Plaza Park looks a lot different during the day. It looks a lot better at night in my opinion.

I have a gallery of additional photos from Horton Plaza.

I love the way this one came out. It was an overcast morning and I was able to bring out the detail the sky to show that because of the HDR. Without it, it was just a white background.

I took a couple weeks off from posting photos, and actually barely even picked up my camera. In some ways it was nice, it helps keep photography fun, and an enjoyable hobby as opposed to a career.

On Monday I decided to head to the Padre game, and none of my friends could make it, so I decided to bring my camera along. I've wanted to attempt this shot since last baseball season ended. It's one of the highest perspectives I know of that's easy to access. I would have preferred a few clouds in the sky, but overall I was happy with the view.

If you drive downtown for Padre games, this is one of the best parking structures to use. The prices are lower than almost anything within 4 or 5 blocks of the stadium, and it's directly across the street. The same is true for a normal weekend, I always recommend it to someone driving downtown. Of course, this is all assuming you can't find a street spot.

I am no Star Trek fan, but after making this photograph consider me a Trekkie!

With a spectacular waterfront setting in the heart of downtown, the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina represents one of the area's best locations for business and leisure stays. It is conveniently situated adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter.

The intersection of Market and 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego is probably the most crowded pedestrian crossing in the Gaslamp District (with the exception of Harbor Drive in front of the convention center during Comic Con). Each light cycle they have a period of time where all traffic lights are red, allowing pedestrians to cross either 5th or Market, or both at the same time. In the middle of the intersection sits this logo.

If you ever go out in downtown San Diego for dinner, I highly recommend Searsucker, the restaurant on the corner on the right side of this image. The restaurant was created by Top Chef contestant Brian Malarkey, and offers a menu of unique, and tasty options.

I've wanted to take this shot for months, but never had the chance because it is always so crowded. Lucky for me everything worked out in my first attempt, I was the only one making the diagonal crossing so I had limited ghosting to deal with. Last night was pretty dead in San Diego, I guess everyone must be recovering from Comic Con. I cranked up the ISO to 1600 (to reduce shutter speed), and after my 5 shot bracket I still had 6 seconds left to finish crossing the street.

I shooting from the Marriott Gaslamp Hotel's rooftop to get this shot. It was taken in late July 2022 when the monsoon moisture made for some hot, muggy days in downtown.
