San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System operates Line 992, a shuttle bus between downtown and Lindbergh Field. It uses ElDorado National EZ Rider buses equipped with luggage racks.
From the department of damn good news: our room for the epicenter of pop culture known as the San Diego Comic-Con is officially reserved and booked. The really great part is that the picture above represents the entire expanse of our daily commute because unlike last year the hotel gods have shone upon us and granted us the delightful Hard Rock Hotel. This will allow us to to drunkenly stagger between the convention center (left) and our hotel (right, connected to the Nobu) in style. It will also make gin runs that much easier as it's right at the heart of the Gaslamp Qaurter. Our ragtag bunch is lean this year, but it shall be none the less epic. I'm damn excited and thankfully it's only 4 months away: where the hell is this year disappearing to?

A special technique was used to make this shot possible. Here's how it happened -
When I metered the light before taking this shot - it showed a 20 sec exposure at f/16 for the correct exposure. The issue was that, it being a weekend evening, there wasn't enough traffic to get the necessary light trails with a 20 sec exposure. Also, the cars stopped at the light on the left side of the image were overexposing that section badly.
To resolve this situation, I put the camera in BULB mode and covered the lens with a Galen-Rowell Filter Cover (I had nothing else that could be used to cover the lens. Lens cap doesn't work because if you touch the camera, you will end up shaking it ever so slightly.) Only where there were enough cars to capture light trails, I would uncover the lens and count the number of seconds of exposure.
By trial and error, I finally got this one right.
One of the best parts of staying in the Gaslamp was being able to walk everywhere, we drove down there, valet the car and never saw it again until we headed home. After we settled in, we hit the streets, walked around downtown exploring our city.
I am little late to the party in posting this photograph from last July, but I guess better later than never.
San Diego Comic-Con International is the world’s largest convention of its kind featuring media, movies, comic books, anime, entertainment, video games and television shows. It is also San Diego’s largest annual convention with attendance peaking at about 130,000 people. The popularity of Comic-Con has led to it even outgrowing our massive convention center. Events now take place all over downtown San Diego at nearby hotels, PETCO Park (home of our MLB team The Padres) and even on the streets of our historic Gaslamp Quarter.
Wandering around the Gaslamp Quarter I spotted Batman at the helm of a 6-passenger bicycle built for bar-crawling. I could not pass up this photo opportunity so I raised my camera and the party started!
Afterwards, I had a chat with Batman and he took note of my Canon DSLR cameras. I told him I was looking to upgrade my camera bodies, lenses and even my Apple Mac computers. He said he would put me in touch with his billionaire buddy Bruce Wayne because he is very generous with his money.
Batman is one cool dude.

Has Comic-Con come to town already?! No, it is just a passing red trolley getting in the way of my shot of San Diego’s Downtown Historic Gaslamp Quarter.
I have been trying to get a decent shot of San Diego’s Downtown Gaslamp District for years. So last week I headed to downtown hoping to resolve that.
My initial exposures were just of the Gaslamp neon sign and car light trails in the foreground. Nothing too exciting and after looking at the scene I said to myself that I needed something bold to contrast against the blue evening sky. Suddenly, the warning horn went off of a passing red trolley (San Diego’s light rail system) crossing an intersection behind me.
Bingo!
I crossed over the rail tracks and waited for the next red trolley to pass. Knowing that the cars have big, wide windows, I took a couple of exposure from 4-8 seconds, which allowed this unique framing.
Beam me up, San Diego!

Going back to my November 2008 visit to San Diego, this was taken from the San Diego Omni Hotel. The Convention Center is on the left, with San Diego Bay in the background. The start of the Gaslamp Quarter is to the right. Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, is out of view, located immediately behind the Omni Hotel. San Diego's a beautiful city, and I've really enjoyed both visits there.
