Today's FGR pick is 'Explore the donkey', a group dedicated to getting lame pictures into Explore. I know there's been a Nikon lens cap in Explore before - I think it may even have been in the top ten (was that the legendary Roberto?) - but has there been a Tokina???
This is from my luvverly new wide angle. It's also sums up all the creativity and energy I have tonight after a week of a toddler with sleep issues and spending the day with 3 and 4 year olds having an end of year party - times two as we had to do it morning and afternoon!
If you'd like to see a Tokina lens cap in explore, please fave away!!!
It was the truly legendary Roberto Carboni - see below. I'm honoured to follow in his hallowed footsteps. His Nikon lens cap reached no 44 back in May 08. Thanks to everyone who has supported me in my heartfelt tribute - I really miss his work and I'm delighted to have graced the front page and top ten with my humble offering (sniff).
FGR invades How To Lose Focus And Bokeh People
Meet candy. I've been dating her since I was about, oh, 13 years old.
She never gets a headache and is always by my side. She never decides that midnight is a good time to start a conversation with "I've been thinking...", and she even spoon-feeds me. She doesn't get drunk and make the fool of herself in public, and she doesn't hate my friends. She's loyal and never "bites the hand", so to speak. Even though I'd never admit it to her, she's the only girl I've ever felt 100% comfortable being myself around.
I love you, Candy. Let us never be apart.
Update: Explore #58
tuesday "tk" and i were beating ourselves up today because FGR picked our group duets for their group today, and we totally had NOT done a duet... until now. ha! now we're out to kick some serious butt..... ha! we're so tuff!
cuz we look really tuff on black
the end is here! one entire year (plus one bonus day because i screwed up the numbering) of photos of me. i didn't miss a day! i am certain that this is the biggest project i've ever completed, and i did it because i wanted to (wow - how often do you get to say that?!?).
i know everyone says this on their last day, but i have to say it too: i am truly amazed by the wonderful people i've met on flickr. thank you all for being so supportive and awesome, and for taking as much delight in dorkiness as i do. and if it weren't for the trial and clem and all the folks in flickr group roulette, my photos would've remained arm's-length self-portraits held above my head at a very slight angle to my nose (we all know those are the most flattering, right?), jumping, or some other prime example of me being a dork. so thank you for all of the inspiration!
i'm not quite sure why i decided to do 365, although i can guess that it was because of son of a motherless goat, who has been a huge inspiration for me. but what on earth made me think i'd actually stick with it? i can't finish anything! and why would i choose to do this, knowing that i hate photos of myself? and considering i didn't have any real-life friends on flickr, what made me (the shy girl from band) join a community full of people i didn't know?
i'm not going to say good-bye...i'm only going to take a few days off, and then i'll be back with year 2. i still have so many things to learn about photography, and i don't want to stop now! (and i think that 2008 might be quite an exciting year...)
thank you all!!!
♥
(for 365 days, ♥ flickr group roulette ♥, and self with camera)
They said to do pasta, so that's what I did. ;)
And HOT DAMN I am almost to DAY 300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woot!
PS A wonderful update on my Grandma is here!
pigtail posse for Flickr Group Roulette
...obviously, pigtails are optional...
explored...highest rank: #77...
For Flickr Group Roulette today's theme... 'I wish'
I'd have posted something more light-hearted...but tonight I'm feeling honest and in all honesty this has been my wish for 6 years.
It seems honesty was the order of the day - #4 in Explore (thank you for that and for returning kindred wishes)
FGR made me do it! For the love of sweets and chocolate.
Guys, I can't even tell you how beautiful it is outside. Gorgeous.
Anywayy, me and a couple friends went to coffee .. walked downtown .. got bubble tea. We got honked and/or yelled at at least 5 times.
Weird.
Anyway, it was fun.
**Okay, so I decided to start writing my name on my pictures, cos they're starting to show up in funny places, and I don't like it. :/
The name was given to me by the lovely Sasha!
For Flickr Group Roulette today's theme... 'For The Love of Striped Socks'
I really did wear this to breakfast...whilst I ate my porridge in the lovely early morning light...I contemplated my entry for FGR..
Somedays you don't have go further than right in front of you!
#7 in Explore - Thank you sock lovers.
For Flickr Group Roulette and Spacecowboy's choice..Half Nekkid Thursdays ...some chose tops, some chose bottoms...I like my halves split right down the middle!
This is almost straight out of the camera...but I couldnt stand my tripod where I needed - so all my verticals were annoyingly distorted...
:)
For July's ABC Soup and FGR - Give the Donkey a bone
Not much time for photos today, so good job FGR has an easy theme today.
A bit morbid doing a shot in a cemetry, but I don't have many songs beginning with Q on my iPod & this seemed to match the concept of Que Sera Sera. Sadly I didn't think of lying down on a grave until I was uploading the photo.... then I could also have submitted to TOTW - Lying Face down too. Oh well - should not have been in such a hurry
Q is for "Que Sera Sera" - Holly Cole
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother
What will I be?
Will I be pretty?
Will I be rich?
Here's what she said to me....
Que sera sera
Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see,
Que sera sera.
When I grew up and fell in love,
I asked my lover what lies ahead?
Will there be rainbows day after day?
Here's what my lover said.....
Que sera sera
Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see,
Que sera sera.
Que sera sera
Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see,
Que sera sera.
Brookfield Lacrosse (High School) home opener tonight...under the lights. Feels more like football season.
Weird groups today....
FGR - In this style (a.k.a. Did your dad travel alot?)
TRP - Alice in Wonderland
FGR 2.0 - High contrast B&W
For FGR – Camouflage.
I know that I won't be the only one who thought of The Garden State when I read this challenge, but I couldn't help it.
The hardest part was actually getting the background exactly right. It's a 92 x 92 pattern of stripes, so I spend probably an hour or more sampling colors from the image and drawing lines. Masking out myself was piece of cake after that (although I wouldn't have minded a tablet).
Day 323 Year 3
For FGR theme
Here by my side, an angel
Here by my side, the devil
Never turn your back on me
Never turn your back on me, again
Here by my side, it's Heaven
Here by my side, you are destruction
Here by my side, a new colour to paint the world
Never turn your back on it
Never turn your back on it, again
Here by my side, it's Heaven
Careful, be careful
Careful, be careful
This is where the world drops off
Where the world drops off
Careful, be careful
You breathe in and you breathe out
For it ain't so weird
How it makes you a weapon
And you give in
And you give out
For it ain't so weird
How it makes you a weapon
Never turn your back on it
Never turn your back on it again
Careful, be careful
Here by my side, it's Heaven
For FGR and I think a might be a Cylon .
I wasn't totally confident that I understood the brief for today's challenge, but I had to have a go as it was chosen by the fabulous Tabrel. I've never seen Battlestar Galactica, but I get the idea of clones and evil twins, so my inspiration came from the character of Niki in Heroes (Series 3 started last night).
Much better Viewed Large On Black - I found a fancy glass effect in PS to put on the mirror. I'd be grateful if someone could let me know if the link works - I've just changed my settings as I've had problems with this in the past! Yay - it does - thanks Ali QJo!
Does this count as a clone shot??? If so, it's my first one.
Thanks to moth.to.flame for the border.
For FGR and I Love the 80s. I've been wanting to use my roller boots in a shot for ages. I couldn't find them last time I did an 80s shot so when I discovered them I stashed them under the bed in readiness... They are mine from back in the eighties. I didn't appreciate how fab they were at the time - but I guess they weren't retro-tastic back then. I wanted a cheapo pair like all my friends and these are proper leather. I really should summon up the courage to go skating!
For FGR which today is Tiny Words and Twinkle Lights Aren't Just for the Holidays.
I wanted to take a shot to mark finally reaching my goal of shifting the last of the baby weight - over two years after my littl'un was born. I'd like to lose a few more pounds but I am now officially at pre-pregnancy weight!
I'm not sure what my toddler thought mummy was doing - there was definitely some processing going on when daddy brought her in to see mummy in her underwear draped in fairy lights... I just hope she sleeps tonight (and this doesn't become her earliest memory)!
Oh and this is SOOC other than the crop and a slight cross process (couldn't resist).

==================
I knew today was going to be 80's day for roulette. Now my vision of the 80's is excessivly loud bright clashing neon colors, skinny black stirrup pants, long slinky tight fitting tops, bendy bangles on the wrists, mega hoop earrings and HUGE hair. Oh yea, I couldn't wear makeup cause I was still pre-teen, until the late late 80's anyway.
Originally what I wanted to do was go to the mall and hang around at makeup counters and fitting rooms playing dressup. However my day has the shortest 24 hours in it and I have to make the best of them. BLAST!
Another thought I had was to put on the black raccoon eyes and use hairspray to give myself the classic 80's vata chola slammed into a brick wall hair look since that also seemed to be what surrounded my 80's years. But that was never my look either (the hair was... not the makeup).
As I was driving home, I'm racking my brain for ideas. Then I remembered. . . On a few occasions I've been told that I look like this Jennifer Beals chick. I didn't know who she was and didn't actually SEE the movie until about three years ago. (I have seen Jennifer's posters so I was aware of the movie). What I remembered most was the original Snoopy Spoof cartoon. As gradeschooler, Snoopy was WAY more important than blockbuster movies. (and it's what I remembered when I think of Flash Dance)
Oh yea, my other inspiration was Kevyn Aucoin. He's the MASTER of classic remakes.
==================
The gold bracelet was my grandmothers, the ratty grey tshirt was mangled for the sake of fashion. I stacked my three headboard pillows to mimic the original, and had to improvise with some barettes in order to get the high hair look (since I don't own hairspray).
I set up my camera, adjusted the settings and lemme tell you, trying to do this with a timer (then rushing to balance on three pillows in 10 seconds) (even with a remote) was HARD!! I also did some layer tweeking in photoshop and gave it an orange look to copy the original effect. All in all, probaly took about 30 minutes from start to finish. Makeup, hair, props, camera setup, photoshop, upload and all.
==================
I'm beyond all smiles for all the positive response my picture has recieved. Thank you again!
For FGR and Hitchcockesque chosen by my fabulous friend MikeB
This was great fun, although it took me a while to get the light in the right place! Now my husband wants to know where his dinner is...I'll be back later to catch up on everyone's shots.
(This is actually my second shot as I tried something else earlier in case this didn't work out. Having missed doing the Boobiethon yesterday I took my top off for it - a few months ago I wouldn't even have posted a recognisable SP and now I'm working on nakedness - how things change. Not sure how Hitchcockesque it is so I'm not sure whether to post it or not.)
FGR & TRP - TRP & FGR, respectively.
Confusing, I know. You see it's Amadika's birthday, and she had this day in both groups, and she wanted to invade each, so, to make it less complicated, it's a copycat of a photo from 2009 in each group. When I first saw Jimsy Jampots shot I really liked it and wanted to do a copycat of it immediately, but I always feel guilty for copycatting other people's ideas, so thanks today, it gives me an excuse to rip her off.
There's just so many other shots that I wanted to copycat...
Which brings up another topic that I would like to say... I know I don't comment on a lot of people's photos, and there's a reason for that. I just don't have the time to tell everyone that I love their ideas, and love their work, and I find so much inspiration just from looking at everyone's shots. So, I'd like to thank everyone for sharing all their great ideas, and allowing me to be a part of both of these wonderful groups. It's what has kept me going for the past few months. I just wish I had a chance to tell everyone that personally.
On a last note, before I take off (always busy, busy, busy!), bonne fête Amadika!
Today would have also been my Grandmother's 86th birthday.

"I love lamp" scene Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
SOOC shot
The gorgeous mask was a part of a fantastic box of goodies from the perfectly charming and witty, Thomas !
Thank you so much for "Lola" and all the other wonderful treats!! ;)
For FGR and Music in My Mind.
This isn't what I'd originally planned - it's not a song I even like much - but once I thought of it it stuck in my head! I'm just getting into diptychs so it worked out okay - although I'd like to get rid of the song now. (Sorry to everyone whose head I've infected too!)
The bokeh is real sunshine from my garden - HBWE!
Thanks to ghostbones for the aged book texture.
The rain lashes down, relentless and unforgiving, but there is no time to stop. The game does not yield to the elements; it only grows fiercer. With every pounding step, water splashes from the earth, mixing with mud and sweat. His grip on the ball is ironclad, his face etched with resolve—there is no turning back.
Behind him, the chase is on. A desperate pursuit, bodies sliding through the soaked battlefield, hearts pounding to the rhythm of the storm. The world fades into a blur of rain and motion, but in this moment, nothing else matters. Only the next stride. Only the try line. Only the will to outrun the downpour and carve his name into the game.
Whoever thought that Flickr Group Roulette would never die was wrong. Today is the final act of one of flickr's most intoxicating, invigorating and hell raising groups. It is truely sad that the membership fell off, and that the decision was made to drop the curtain.
As though the Titanic were scuttled, fuggers find themselves adrift in the dark icy seas of flickrland.
Fare thee well FGR. May the fugger ethos live on. (cue sad celtic bagpipes)
Actually it might. There's a lifeboat out there. Over there. On the horizon. They're shouting.... waving...... saying "We're Here!"
Strobist: AB1600 with 60X30 softbox overhead, 45 degrees. Triggered by Cybersync.

look here it looks cooler :O)
obviously characters have been changed seeing as i am a female :) So ho ahead and replace man for woman in the story :O)
This is a take i have never heard before but i love the morbidness Of it.
here is the tale.....
A poor man has twelve children, and works just hard enough to feed each of them everyday. When his thirteenth child was born, the man decided to find a godfather for this child. So he runs out into the highway, and found God walking on the highway. God asked to be the godfather, promising the child health and happiness. The man, after finding out that the man was God, declined, saying that God condoned poverty, and was ignorant that God rewards suffering in Heaven. Then the man met the Devil on the highway. The Devil then asked to be the godfather, offering the child gold and the worlds joys. The man, after finding out that the man was the Devil, declined, saying that the Devil deceives mankind.
The man, still walking down the highway, meets Death. The man decides to make Death the child's godfather, saying that Death takes away the rich and the poor, without discrimination. The next Sunday, Death became the child's godfather.
When the boy came of age, Death appeared to him and lead him into the woods, where special herbs grew. There, Death promised the boy to make him a famous physician. Death then explained that whenever the boy would visit an ill person, Death would appear next to the sick one. If Death stands at the persons head, that person is to be given the special herb found in the forest, and cured. But, if Death appears at the persons feet, any treatment on them would be useless, as they would soon die.
The boy soon becomes famous, just as Death had foreseen, and received plenty of gold for his amazing ability to see whether a person would live or die. Soon, the king of all the lands became ill, and sent for this famous physician.
When the physician went to see the king, he noticed immediately Death standing at the foot of the kings bed. The physician felt pity for the king, and decided to trick Death. The physician then turned the king in his bed so that Death was over his head, and gave him the herb to eat. This healed the king, and sped his recovery.
Soon after, Death approached the physician, expressing his anger for tricking him and disobeying Deaths rules. But because the physician was Death godchild, he did not punish him. Death did then warn that if the physician was to ever trick him again, he would take his life.
Not much later, the kings daughter became ill as well, and the physician went to see her as well. It was there that the king promised his daughters hand in marriage and inherit the crown if he was to cure her. When the physician visited the princess, he saw Death at her feet. But the physician ignored this, as he was captivated by the princesses beauty and thoughts of being her husband. He then turned the princess so that Death was at her head, then fed her the herb.
Just as the princess was coming around, Death grasped the physician by the arm and dragged him to an underground cavern. In this cave were thousands upon thousands of candles, each melted at different lengths. Death explained that the length of the candle showed how much longer a person has to live. When Death showed the physician his candle, he noticed that it was very short, showing that he didn't have much longer to live.
The physician pleaded with his godfather to light a new candle for him, so that he may live a happy life as king and husband to the beautiful princess. Death reconsidered, and gathered a new candle to pass the flame of his godchild.
Just as he was going to light the new candle, Death took his revenge on the physician by letting the flame of the first candle fall. As soon as the candle extinguished, the physician fell to the ground, dead.
My first Aloha Thursday!
For Flickr Group Roulette, Aloha Thursday and Half Nekkid Thursdays, what a winning combination of groups for me to participate in...all I need now is a "I'm wearing a dress up outfit for 7 year olds" Group and I'm made!
(Point of interest, Ive worn this hula skirt about 8 times in various shots in my stream, my youngest daughter, who it was bought for, has never worn it)
FGR invades I want CANDY !!!!!!
They marched along suspecting nothing. It was only a matter of time before they became curious...
