Continue from Part 5. Back home I began to analyze the material. And as a matter of fact it took a load off my mind when I saw the gory pictures of the cannibal massacre! Because the cannibal, who gorges a young next to its mother, was only an illusion. What I regarded as guts was obviously an embryo. On this picture you can see clearly small skinless arms and legs. On another one (which I spare you) even ribs and a shoulder blade. But none of the limbs of the dead little monkey was missing....... However, some questions remain. Did the cannibal mother eat her own young? How did this coincide with the death of the other young monkey and why was his belly shredded? And what fate may be approaching for the other young monkeys of this corral?
Update: The german newspaper "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" reports about this case.
Fortsetzung von Teil 5. Wieder daheim begann ich das Material zu analysieren. Und mir viel tatsächlich ein Stein vom Herzen, als ich die blutigen Bilder des Kannibalen-Massakers sah! Denn die Kannibalin, die ein Junges direkt neben dessen Mutter verspeist, war nur eine Illusion. Was ich für Eingeweide gehalten hatte, war offensichtlich ein Embryo. Auf diesem Bild sind deutlich kleine Arme und Beine ohne Fell zu sehen. Auf einem weiteren, das ich Euch erspare, sogar Rippen und ein Schulterblatt. Dem toten Jungen fehlten aber keine Gliedmaßen....... Dennoch bleiben einige Fragen: Hat die Kannibalen-Mutter ihr eigenes Junges gefressen? Wie kam es gleichzeitig zum Tod des anderen jungen Affen, und warum war sein Bauch zerfetzt? Und welches Schicksal mag den anderen Jungtieren dieses Geheges noch bevorstehen?
