Call centre Operator Atul Tomar, keeps a watch at the Janani express ( Ambulance service for pregnant woman) call centre at the district hospital, Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh. Despite being one of the most mineral rich states in India, with vast hoards of diamonds, Madhya Pradesh is one of the poorest with 40% of its population living in poverty. The state also has some of the worst development statistics in India. Of every 100,000 live births in Madhya Pradesh - 310 mothers will die, while 59 new-borns will die for every 1000 live births - one of the highest infant mortality rates in the country, and compares starkly with Kerala for example where 14 infants will die out of 1000 live births. This number jumps to 63 newborn deaths for every 1000 live births in rural areas. The Janani Express mini buses and vehicles have been equipped with GPS systems that allow a call centre control room at the district hospital to allocate the nearest bus for the fastest despatch, and to track its progress on route to the clinics. 35 vehicles have been bought and equipped in Shivpuri district alone. The poster project was an interesting project. The purpose of the assignment was to find a topic that involved societal issues. For my overall subject I chose to take pictures of technology and it's impact on the world. I was to capture fourteen issues that I personally use almost everyday.
The center picture consisted of the topics I was going to cover throughout the project. Unfortunately I couldn't fit every technological issue because I either didn't own the technology or it was in a store. I found the center picture fascinating because almost every object of technology that was in the picture I use almost everyday and I don't know what I'd do without them.
My first picture on the top left was GPS systems in cars and their technological issues. GPS devices are fallible; they're made so by satellite communication errors and outdated or inaccurate maps. Even when maps are current, some mapping and navigation information doesn't take into account road types. With this type of software error, the road that may look like the shortest distance between Point A and Point B might actually be an unpaved private drive. Because of these factors, drivers find themselves driving on unsafe terrain and into other hazards, such as artificial lakes or train tracks. The more confident you are in what your GPS device tells you, the less likely you are to notice something's wrong. Accident risk increases when drivers take their GPS device's instructions too literally: Warnings of "when possible, make a legal U-turn" send some veering into oncoming traffic.
The second picture was based on portable chargers and it’s backfire on society. Batteries are known to overheat and catch on fire. Which poses a threat to security at airports and human lives. This critical issue is still on the rise and continues to as more people need the extra power for their phones or other devices and ignore the fact that their dangerous. I chose to use my Mophie case as the picture of my issue because I thought it was a prime image to portray portable chargers.
The third picture regards the technological issue of laptops and its effect on society. Laptops are dangerous in many ways. One of the many include; hackers and their ability to take over laptops and control their systems from the other side of the world. I chose to take a picture of a computer because computers are taking over our classes and people use them every day. I like this picture because I liked how it looks with the wood and the black which brings a nice contrast.
My fourth picture on the top right I had taken was in the Tesla store at the Santa Monica 3rd street promenade. Regarding large self driving companies such as Tesla and Google there have been several issues with their development of self driving cars and still have a long way to go. Problems of these include: technology that can’t control the behavior of other drivers. Autonomous vehicles will have to deal with drivers who speed, pass even when there’s a double yellow line and drive the wrong way on a one-way street. Also, weather was a prime cause of system failures after which human drivers had to take back control.
My fifth picture is about video gaming and it's effects on society. The effect of video game violence in kids is worsened by the games’ interactive nature. In many games, gamers are rewarded for being more violent. Too much video game playing makes people socially isolated. Also Games can confuse reality and fantasy. I own a video game console and I can easily say that playing video games certainly excludes me from, family time and more impactful things in life.
My sixth picture comprises of headphones and their concerning effects to humans as a whole. Headphones exclude people from conversation and not to mention being rude when one is taking. Listening to music with headphones can be especially dangerous especially because they destroy your ability of hearing properly. Also, thousands of people listen to music with their headphones on when driving. This act can be life threatening since the driver cannot hear outside noises and therefore wouldn't be able to hear the sound of a siren or car honking.
My seventh picture has been one of the most controversial topics in the past few years. Drones have numerous advantages to our society, however there are several disadvantages that are concerning to security and privacy. A growing number of drones have been flown dangerously close to commercial aircraft's, violating federal rules about their operation. In addition, privacy is one major concern as there are no laws that protect individuals against people stalking or spying on them in their homes, there are no federal laws in place that would protect individuals from being spied on specifically by a drone.
My eighth topic is about the Samsung galaxy note 7 phones and their repercussions of our society. All over America there have been numerous events where these specific phones have been exploding due to their batteries not fitting the actual phone causing it to overheat. The Note 7 has been banned on commercial and international flights because they are highlighted as a hazardous material.
My ninth issue is Game applications such Clash of Clans, Candy Crush and Mobile Strike that are accessible through mobile devices are creating an effect to our society. Not only are children addicted to these games, but also adults as I have seen my own grandfather glued to his device. Students often become easily distracted by these games and do not pay any attention in class. As I have also seen my friends do this throughout the school year.
The tenth picture was based on home security systems. Unfortunately a large percentage of security system activation's are false alarms. This is undeniably frustrating and expensive for homeowners who are inexperienced with security systems. This results in many of them deciding to avoid activating their system to avoid the inconvenience and expense of false alarms. Which is exactly what happened to my family and many other families that I know of.
The eleventh issue consists of social media and it’s continuous result to ruin society. There are countless problems with social media: addiction, lack of attention span, decline in intellectual abilities as well as bullying. Unfortunately, society and the many people I know base their lives around social media and how they portray their lives.
The twelfth topic is about the age of smartwatches and it’s exponential increase of demand. These watches are also marketed as medical devices and fitness trackers to acting as an extension of your smartphone. However, as smartwatches become mainstream, cyber criminals have been gifted with a new avenue to exploit in the quest to steal valuable data.
My thirteenth societal subject was based on television addiction. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime are just a few online streamers that encourage watching television shows or movies. Similar to playing video games, it makes people socially isolated as well as antisocial. Preferably staying at home instead of going out with your friends is unhealthy and is a societal issue that needs to be taken care of.
The last picture and problem of technological issues involves virtual reality. Several complications have arisen in recent developments. Impairment of hearing and nausea is a significant issue among health problems people will face when using virtual reality headsets. With this image I wanted to capture someone actually using the VR and enhancing the contrast of the picture.
To conclude, the poster project was enjoyable, however I found difficulty trying to put the images onto the actual poster. I had also learn’t many interesting things about technology that I use everyday that I had no clue it would impact society.
Turkish based GPLN member, Kita Transport Services, has been involved in
air, sea, land transport, integrated logistics as well as project transport.
During the first half of 2010, Kita Transport Services moved a 35 MW wind
power plant consisting of 14 units of GE 2.5 MW wind turbines. The goods
were moved from Germany and other parts of Europe into Iskenderun, Turkey,
by land and sea.
The overall project volume was over 42,000 cbm and all of the cargo has been
delivered on time with no damages. The most difficult part of the project
was to tackle the extreme cold weather conditions in Europe, which is the
worst in the last 50 years, especially during the February and March. The
50 m long blades were to be moved a distance of over 500 km overland. Under
these climatic circumstances these moves were a serious challenge. The
goods were loaded on four ships at a -15 degree Celsius temperature and also
over 20 trucks were loaded for the cargo to be moved by land route to the
jobsite in Turkey. Kita Transport Services had moved the first wind farm to
Turkey in 1999 on a door-to-door basis and since then Kita has moved a
significant amount of wind turbine equipment to various wind farms in
Turkey.

Darius Bunandar is a Dean’s Honored Graduate in the Department of Physics. He is graduating with an honors degree in physics, along with a degree in mechanical engineering. Darius is being recognized for his superior academic performance and his research, which has culminated in three journal publications.
Darius’s research was undertaken with Professor Richard Matzner in the Department of Physics in the field of general relativity. Specifically, Darius performed numerical simulations to solve multidimensional non-linear partial differential equations, which are difficult to solve even using supercomputers, let alone pencil and paper. One such equation is the eikonal equation, which describes the propagation of a collection of light rays in the presence of strong gravitational attractions. By studying how light rays move, one can build a GPS system that is fully-relativistic or find the event horizon of a black hole – the boundary around a black hole from which nothing, not even light, can escape. Darius’s work under Professor Matzner led to one paper already published in the prestigious journal Physical Review D, with another two in preparation.
Darius pursued a rigorous course of study with an honors degree in physics while a student in the Dean’s Scholars Honors Program. At the same time he completed a degree in mechanical engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering. He also completed his physics degree early and excelled in graduate level physics courses. All the while he maintained a near-perfect 3.99 GPA.
Not surprisingly, Darius has been recognized with a series of awards while at UT, including a University Co-Op Award for Academic Excellence, the Eva Stevenson Woods and Jim Vick Endowed Presidential Scholarships, and a competitive summer research fellowship at Caltech. After graduation, Darius will enroll at MIT, where he will pursue a PhD in theoretical physics. He’s selected a collection of books written by UT Nobel prize-winning physicist Steven Weinberg, including Cosmology and Lectures on Quantum Mechanics.

The Mitad del Mundo (Spanish: Middle of the World) is a tract of land owned by the prefecture of the province of Pichincha, Ecuador. It is located in the San Antonio parish of the canton of Quito, north of the center of Quito.
The grounds contain the Museo Etnográfico Mitad del Mundo, a museum about the indigenous ethnography of Ecuador. The 30-meter-tall monument, built between 1979 and 1982, was constructed to mark the point where the equator passes through the country in the geodetic datum in use in Ecuador at that time. A line down the center of the east-facing staircase, and across the plaza, was meant to mark the equator, and countless tourists over the years have had their pictures taken straddling this line. In the modern datum of the World Geodetic System (WGS84), which is used in GPS systems and computer mapping products like Google Earth, the equator is placed about 240 meters north of the marked line. This discrepancy is partially due to increased accuracy but primarily due to a different choice of mapping datum.

The Breitling Orbiter 3 was the first balloon to fly around the world non-stop. This is the gondola, on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
The Breitling Orbiter 3 was the third of three balloons piloted by Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones. Both prior attempts to fly around the world ended in crashes. Its balloon was 180 feet high when inflated. Propane gas was used to heat the air, and these 28 propane cylinders were attached to both sides of the gondola (you can see them in this photo). The balloon was a Rozière balloon, which means that a central core gas bag of helium was surrounded by an outer gas bag of hot air. The helium bag was filled about halfway to capacity. As the craft rose, the lack of surrounding air pressure as well as heating by the Sun caused the helium to expand -- filling the gas bag to 100 percent of capacity, and causing the gondola to rise.
The gondola was made of Kevlar and a carbon fiber material. The cabin remained open until the balloon reached 6,000 (to allow for air pressure drops. It was then sealed, and a nitrogen/oxygen mix used to augment the air inside it. Carbon dioxide scrubbers removed the CO2 from the sealed cabin. The gondola had solar panels underneath it, which generated power for the satellite GPS system and radio.
Piccard and Jones took off from Switzerland on March 1, 1999, and landed in Egypt on March 21, 1999. They traveled 25,361 miles.

Skelmorlie is a village in North Ayrshire in the southwest of Scotland. Although it is the northernmost settlement in the council area of North Ayrshire, it is contiguous with Wemyss Bay, which is in Inverclyde. The dividing line is the Kelly Burn, which flows into the Firth of Clyde just south of the Rothesay ferry terminal. Despite their proximity, the two villages have historically been divided, Skelmorlie in Ayrshire and Wemyss Bay in Renfrewshire.
Skelmorlie itself is divided into two sections, Lower and Upper Skelmorlie. There is one primary school in the village, with secondary age pupils going to Largs Academy in North Ayrshire. In common with this part of the Clyde foreshore, the rich red sandstone is a prominent feature of the landscape and housing in Skelmorlie.
Early Skelmorlie
The village is nestled on a plateau and is situated 30–60 m above sea level. It overlooks the four-mile-wide (six-kilometre) Firth of Clyde, with views across to the beginning of the Scottish Highlands. The outstanding panoramic view from the area stretches from Arran and the "sleeping warrior" in the south-west to the mountains either side of Loch Long to the North.
It is known that "a significant population" lived around the area behind the present-day Manor Park Hotel in the 9th to 11th century, and evidence supports the theory that an early Celtic church existed there before the arrival of the Cluniac Monks (who formed Paisley Abbey in 1163) and the foundation of the Roman Church.
The land on which the modern day village now stands was passed from King Malcolm III to the Cunninghames, and was subsequently acquired by Sir Alexander de Montgomerie of Ardrossan on 25 March 1453, when his sister Anne married Sir Robert Cunninghame of Kilmaurs.
The Montgomeries were Normans, descended from William the Conqueror's great grandmother. There were thirteen Montgomeries of Skelmorlie, the line being founded in 1461 by George Montgomerie, 2nd son of the first Lord Montgomerie.
The earliest known record of a "building" in the village is a building in the shape of a simple keep, which was built around 1502 on the site of what is now Skelmorlie Castle. This keep was in the corner of the castle nearest Stirrats Farm.
There were six baronets (a holder of a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown titled Sir, but never entitled to sit in the House of Lords), starting with Sir Robert Montgomerie in 1628 (knighted by King James VI and who attended his own funeral and wept with the mourners in 1651) and ending with Sir Hugh Montgomerie, who was very active in the political affairs of Glasgow, being both Provost and MP for Glasgow; he was also a commissioner of the Treaty of the Union.
Sir Hugh's nephew Robert had an elder daughter called Lilias, whose marriage united the estate to the senior branch of the Family of Eglinton. The Cunninghames held the northern part of Skelmorlie for a while before passing it to the Montgomeries, the split being the burn at the Meigle. The southern half was further split in two - nearest the south was Blackhouse (on or near to the site of the Manor Park Hotel) and nearest the north was Thirdpart, Barr, Moat and Auchengarth.
The area of Knock entered into the possession of John, 1st Montgomerie of Blackhouse, when his son Patrick married a Frazer of Knock. A feu charter in favour of "Patrick Montgomerie of Blackhous" can still be seen in the Manor Park Hotel.
Patrick was succeeded by Hugh Montgomerie and then by John Montgomerie. John was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Covenanters who was killed fighting Cromwell at Dunbar, his heir, also Patrick sold the estate to the Bannatynes of Kelly in 1633 and was the last of the Montgomeries of Blackhouse. The estate stayed part of the Kelly estate until the 1800s
When Kelly Castle was burnt in 1740, the Bannatynes moved into Blackhouse which they had owned for a century. They sold it in 1780 and bought it back in 1795 after Kelly was sold.
The 18th Century saw the end of feudal society (where peasants worked the land and contributed work to their land'lords') and the growth of industry. Communities were beginning to form at Finnock (Inverkip), Kellybridge and Skelmorlie (Meigle). Simultaneously, some of this population was moving and accumulating in Largs.
Most significantly, the 18th century saw the rise in the importance of the River Clyde and the increase in trade that it brought.
History
Skelmorlie's history is recorded as far back as the fifteenth century. Skelmorlie Castle, south of the village, is a tower house built on the site of an older structure in 1502. Much altered and added to since, it is an ancient seat of the Clan Montgomery (a notable burial tomb of the family can be seen at Skelmorlie Aisle in Largs). During the nineteenth century the village was once home to many Glasgow tea barons. On the cliff above the shore a large hydropathic institution once stood, with access from the main road via a lift whose shaft was hewn out of the rock face. The building later operated as a hotel, but was demolished in the 1990s.
To the south of Skelmorlie is the serpent mound, a prehistoric, perhaps druidic, site apparently carved either deliberately for religious uses or by nature then reused due to its natural shape.
On Saturday 18 April 1925, an embankment on the reservoir which belonged to the Eglinton Estate and provided the main water supply for the whole village gave way, releasing millions of gallons of water down through the village. After 10 minutes many homes, streets and gardens were shattered and five people, four of them children, lay dead.
The composer and arranger Brian Fahey and his wife Audrey lived in Skelmorlie from 1972 until her death in 2006. Nowadays Skelmorlie has a population of 1880 residents.
Skelmorlie Measured Mile
Before the introduction of GPS systems, measured nautical miles were used to measure the speed of new ships under sea trials before being handed over by the shipyard to the owner. In the early part of the 20th century, the Royal Navy used a measured nautical mile in the Firth of Clyde off Skelmorlie, known as the 'Skelmorlie Mile', as the range for speed trials of new warships. The mile was also used for merchant shipping trials well into the 1980s.
In simple terms, a nautical measured mile is a nautical mile which is marked by two pairs of posts on or near the shore. The ship, already at top speed and on the requisite bearing, sails from one pair of posts to the next. A stopwatch is started when the first two posts are aligned and then stopped when the next two posts are aligned. Each post has a 'V' or inverted V-shaped marker on it which forms an 'X' with its partner post when they are exactly aligned. To accurately measure performance, ships had to make several runs in both directions to compensate for variations in wind and tide.
The 'Skelmorlie Mile' is a Category B Listed Structure. It was established in 1866 by the Clyde shipbuilding firm of Robert Napier & Sons. It was surveyed by two different land surveyors, namely Kyle & Frew and Smith & Wharrie, and was checked by Admiralty staff.
It consists of two pairs of tall, white painted poles, each pair set 1 nautical mile (1,852 metres) from each other. The poles are set on concrete bases, with iron stays, and have sight markers at the upper level. The northern pair of posts can be found by the bus shelter at the foot of the Hydro Steps, near the turning point on Shore Road. One of these is on the shore and can be accessed by walking a couple of hundred metres south and entering the beach by the steps at the small pumping station. The other northern post is mounted halfway up a cliff behind the bus shelter and has fallen into severe disrepair, the top half having snapped and fallen to the side. The southern pair of posts are at the south end of Skelmorlie, immediately south of Skelmorlie Castle. One of these is on the rocky shore, near the A78 road, the other is in a field between the A78 and Meigle.
South Ayrshire is one of thirty-two council areas of Scotland, covering the southern part of Ayrshire. It borders onto Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire. South Ayrshire had an estimated population in 2021 of 112,450, making it the 19th–largest subdivision in Scotland by population. With an area of 472 sq mi, South Ayrshire ranks as the 15th largest subdivision in Scotland.
South Ayrshire's administrative centre is located in its largest town, Ayr. The headquarters for its associated political body, South Ayrshire Council, is housed at the towns County Buildings located in Wellington Square. Ayr is the former county town of the historic Ayrshire county, with the political activity of the Ayrshire County Council being based at County Buildings.
History
South Ayrshire was created in 1996 under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, which replaced Scotland's previous local government structure of upper-tier regions and lower-tier districts with unitary council areas providing all local government services. South Ayrshire covered the same area as the abolished Kyle and Carrick district, and also took over the functions of the abolished Strathclyde Regional Council within the area. The area's name references its location within the historic county of Ayrshire, which had been abolished for local government purposes in 1975 when Kyle and Carrick district and Strathclyde region had been created.
In 2021, South Ayrshire submitted a bid for city status as part of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. The bid was based on the area's rich history and links to royalty, and received backing from organisations and businesses including Ayrshire College and Scottish Enterprise. The bid was ultimately unsuccessful, with eight other settlements across the UK, overseas territories and crown dependencies being awarded city status, including Scottish town Dunfermline.
Geographically, South Ayrshire is located on the western coast of Scotland, sharing borders with neighbouring local authorities East Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway and North Ayrshire. The climate in South Ayrshire, typical of that in western Scotland, is milder than that of eastern Scotland due to the stronger maritime influence, as the prevailing winds blow from the sea into South Ayrshire, which is located primarily on the western coast of Scotland. The warm Gulf Stream also has a strong influence on western Scotland. With winds mainly blowing from the sea the annual mean temperatures are in the range 9.5 to 9.9 °C (49.1 to 49.8 °F) in coastal areas of South Ayrshire such as Ayr and Troon.
The sea reaches its lowest temperature in February or early March so that on average February is the coldest month in some coastal parts of South Ayrshire along with the Rhins of Galloway, Kintyre and the Hebrides. In February the mean daily minimum temperature varies from about 2 °C in most of the islands, 1 to 2 °C along most of the Solway Firth and lowland inland areas, but less than −1 °C in parts of the Southern Uplands and central Highlands. Inland, where the influence of the sea is less, January is the coldest month with mean daily minimum temperatures generally between −3 and 0 °C.
The number of hours of natural sunshine in South Ayrshire is controlled by the length of day and by cloudiness. In general, December is the dullest month and May or June the sunniest. Sunshine duration decreases with increasing altitude, increasing latitude and distance from the coast. Local topography also exerts a strong influence and in the winter deep glens and north-facing slopes can be in shade for long periods. Industrial pollution and smoke haze can also reduce sunshine amounts, but the decline in heavy industry in the Ayrshire area, primarily in Ayr in South Ayrshire along with Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire, has resulted in an increase in sunshine duration particularly in the winter months.
Average annual rainfall totals range from less than 1,000 mm (39 in) in the upper Clyde valley and along the coasts of Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway to on average over 3,500 mm (140 in) over the higher parts of the west Highlands, approaching the maximum values found in the UK (over 4,000 millimetres or 160 inches further north).
South Ayrshire's population is mostly concentrated around the adjoining coastal towns of Ayr, Prestwick and Troon located to the north-west of the council, which represents 68% of the council's total population according to data derived from the 2011 census, with a combined population of 76,846. Other areas of significance include the towns of Maybole and Girvan which are located to the south of the council area in the district of Carrick.
The economy of South Ayrshire, like many other areas, was badly affected during the worldwide financial crisis from 2009–2012. Despite this, total Gross Value Added for South Ayrshire has seen a steady increase over the last 20 years, reaching a peak in 2015 of £2.4 billion. South Ayrshire's GVA represents 1.9% of the total Scottish Gross Value Added income which is consistent with the previous 20 years. The largest employment industry in South Ayrshire and Scotland is the public administration, education and health sector. Compared with Scotland, proportionally there are more South Ayrshire residents employed in this sector than Scotland, while there are proportionally fewer employed in banking, finance and insurance sector than Scotland. Despite being a costal area, the smallest employment in South Ayrshire is in the agriculture and fishing sector.
The council and its neighbours of East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire work together on economic growth as the Ayrshire Regional Economic Partnership, with support from the Scottish and UK governments and other private and public sector organisations.
Educational provision in South Ayrshire is offered via eight secondary schools, forty-one primary schools, two special needs schools and five stand-alone Early Years Centres (although some primary schools have Early Years Centres attached). In terms of early years provision, there are also a number of private establishments which are operated in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council, rather than managed and operated entirely by the council.
Based on figures from the 2016-2017 academic year, within South Ayrshire, there were 6,091 secondary school aged pupils, 7,855 primary school aged pupils and 251 pupils attending special educational needs provision establishments.
South Ayrshire Council
South Ayrshire is governed by South Ayrshire Council which has been under no overall control since 2003, in which time various coalitions and minority administrations have operated. Since the last election in 2022, the council has been led by a Conservative minority administration which took office with support from two independent councillors and abstentions from Labour. The next election is due in 2027.
The council's civic head takes the title of provost. This is a largely ceremonial role, chairing council meetings and acting as the area's first citizen. Although an elected councillor, the provost is expected to be politically impartial. Political leadership is provided by the leader of the council.
Wider politics
At the 2014 Scottish independence referendum South Ayrshire rejected independence by an above-average margin of 57.9% "No" to 42.1% "Yes". With a turnout of 86.1%, there were 34,402 "Yes" votes and 47,247 "No" votes. Nationally 55.3% of voters voted "No" in the referendum compared to 44.7%, who voted "Yes" – resulting in Scotland remaining a devolved part of the United Kingdom.
At the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum a majority of voters in South Ayrshire voted for the United Kingdom to remain a member of the European Union (EU), with 59% of voters in South Ayrshire voting for the United Kingdom to remain a member of the EU and 41% voting for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. With a turnout of 69.8%, 36,265 votes were cast for remain and 25,241 were cast for leave. 62% of Scottish voters voted remain whilst 38% voted leave, whilst nationally 51.8% of voters in the United Kingdom as a whole voting to leave and 48.2% voting to remain

When award-winning golf architect Michael Hurdzan, Golf World Magazine’s 1997 Architect of the Year, sets out to design a course he says that he wants to “create a ‘Wow’ effect for golfers.” At his Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club, named ‘Best New Course in Canada in 1996’ by SCOREGolf Magazine, Hurdzan created his patented “Wow” effect on virtually every hole.
As a result, there is no ‘signature’ hole at the spectacular layout on Eagle Mountain because each hole stands alone. Yet each hole bears Hurdzan’s distinctive signature. “This is a magical piece of ground,” said Hurdzan. “When we built the course, the whole intent was to keep the great views, keep the special ethereal feeling and still create as wide a course as we could so that the average golfer could enjoy it.” Hurdzan not only achieved his lofty goal, he exceeded it. On this magical Coquitlam plateau 30 minutes east and 1,300 feet above Vancouver, the golf values are as pure as the snow on the distant mountain peaks. Little wonder that in 1999, Golf Digest called Westwood Plateau: “The best game in town.”
Whether playing from the back tees at 6,770 yards or from any of the other three tee boxes that gradually shorten the course to 5,514 yards, players are confronted by a singular challenge on each hole – deciding whether the view is more striking from the tee or from the green. The ProShot GPS system on each power cart takes the pressure off club selection by displaying precise yardages on easy-to-read screens. It also provides yardages to the hazards; individual tips on playing the hole; updates on your tournament; and ProShot can quickly relay messages in case of emergencies. In addition to the on-cart GPS, you’ll also receive range balls, day locker, bottled water, tee gift, and continental breakfast included in your fees. Other available extras range from transportation via helicopter from downtown Vancouver to fully-stocked personal mini bars on your cart.
