Running long hood forward, NS G36 has completed its Ceadertown transfer and is now heading back north. To get traffic to the C Line, NS service designers have this Rome, Georgia local come south with one consist, tie it down, and bring the park train north back to Forestville Yard in Rome. The train is passed CP Brice moments ago on its trip north; NS 6963 has been in this service for about a month and an a half.

May 19, 2014: Norfolk Southern freight train NS 348 motors Northbound down Braswell Mountain approaching Rockmart, GA with the GoRail unit (SD60E EMD) leading a C40-9W and SD70M-2.

NS 16G heads east after getting an upgrade clear signal at MP CD270 on the Norfolk Southern Chicago Line with the neon glow of the GORail Unit leading the train by surprise.

Once shooting the 34N at Vickers Jct, I decided to drive around Toledo for a little bit, while missing the eastbound NS 177, I heard this 16G departing the T-Center in town which then I stopped at CP 286 to grab a shot, that's where I found out the GORail was the leader.

After getting a "somewhat decent" shot at CP 286, I choose to go follow them east, after falling behind by a couple miles behind the train, due to street lights and slow moving traffic, I finally got back up with the train here at MP CD270, due to them getting an approach at MP CD272 with NS 177 crossing over infront of them to head towards Bellevue, Ohio. The fall colors are booming and looking hot with the neon grow off the locomotive.

The only international passenger train currently operating in Estonia is the night convoy that connects Moscow and Tallinn in about 15 hours, making stop also in St. Petersburg: obviously operated by RZD in Russia, in the Baltic country it is brought to destination by the private company Go Rail, which uses for the traction some diesel locomotives of the large TEP70 group.

In the photo, the train has just passed the village of Kadrina, on the single track line that will lead him to Tapa, the last stop before the arrival in the Estonian capital.

A very late running 309 heads through downtown Cleveland with the GoRail unit leading.

When I saw that this had already gone through Ashland and was still moving through Pacific Jct. I figured it'd make for another overnight arrival for a heritage motor in Ottumwa. For reasons unknown to me, it got held outside of Creston for quite a while and I had a screen shot of ODIS waiting for me when I woke up at 0600.

It indicated that this train had gone through Osceola at 0420, which was a nearly identical time as the GoRail motor from a couple of weeks ago. Figuring that it had to be nearby, I got out of bed and went to find it. When I heard it clear a warrant at Halpin, I knew I hadn't missed it so I got gas and a cup of coffee and waited for it to come to me.

I snagged it first a couple of times in Ottumwa, then got it here at Agency before letting it fly away near Batavia. Check another off the list!

Here's the last I saw of it nearing Batavia. I thought I was going to eek out some sun, but I had to settle for the awkward high-cloud partial sun lighting.

Probably the biggest surprise of the day was hearing the GoRail SD60E was working NS A04. It was a welcome sight to see this engine since the last time I saw it prior to when this picture was taken was in summer of 2017.

A nice way to kick off the New Year...

I had gone out early this morning to look for a GoRail-led inbound train that had unfortunately already gotten into Decatur before I hit the road. However, I settled for a great consolation prize of an empty coal train from the Iowa Interstate in Cedar Rapids, IA bound for loading at Deer Run Mine near Hillsboro. NS 403 with the Wabash heritage unit leading departs off the Loop at Wabic as the train is bound for the Brooklyn District, looking good in the best light of the day. In the back right, CSX keeps busy scurrying around their small railyard.

Westbound PPL empties heads west behind a trio of SD60Es. Currently PPL is cycling one trainset between Shire Oaks, PA and York Haven, PA.

Since its implementation of Precision Scheduled Railroading, NS's roster of SD60Es has all but been absent from many of my jaunts trackside over the last several years. Last Spring, I had seen posts that the GoRail SD60E was working local service between Bellevue and Fostoria. A Sunday afternoon visit to Bellevue found this to be the case as NS L11 arrived from Fostoria around lunchtime, worked Moorman Yard, and then departed back to Fostoria in the evening. The train is seen here working its way through the Mini-Plant interlocking on the Sandusky District having picked up an SD40E in the yard.

A special scheme Norfolk Southern SD60E #6963, for GoRail leads NS 214 north through Orange, VA on the DC Main along with C40-9W #9807 and C40-8W #8394. This shot added 35 miles to an already 135 mile re-recon drive to Charlottesville for some hopeful evening action.

Although geographically the city of Narva is nowadays in Estonia, when you set foot in it it seems to be already a few meters away, beyond the border, given that about 90% of the population is ethnic and Russian language.

The station is attended by numerous police officers, and access is allowed from outside only to passengers of departing trains: the only way to take photographs without particular problems is to get on the pedestrian walkway that crosses the yard and connects the two parts of the city divided by the railway, from which there is a view of the long haul of freight wagons parked.

In one of the few sunny moments of that windy morning, we take a picture of this Go Rail TEP70 locomotive shunting to settle in front of the Moscow - Tallinn train arrived just before, while the modern RZD TEP70BS, just rejected by the train, waits for the green light to recur until evening on one of the station sidings.

More information about GoRail can be found at www.gorail.org.

I'll have to come back this afternoon and upload the real thing...

I was tipped off early yesterday morning that it was very likely that the NS 6963, the GoRail motor, would very likely be leading a detour oil train (U-EPPNSB0-03T) through Ottumwa early this morning. I saw last night that it had made it through Ashland at 1913 and figured that it would get through Ottumwa before dawn.

I got a txt showing that it was through Osceola at 0411 and figured that it might just work out. I got up, showered, kissed Cara goodbye, and went trackside. When I heard it get a warrant from ICERRX to CTC Lucas Street at 0653, I checked the sunrise time and the map. I decided to race it east 10 miles to find a spot where I might get a sliver of the sunrise and I found it!

I think the thing I love most about this motor is that it began its life as CNW 8004.
