Always too far away for me to get a decent shot but this is my best so far of this lovely bird at Seaton Marshes which has been there quite some time now.
Today's selection from my Facebook archive are all long legged wading birds - Ibis & Egrets. Glossy Ibis at Loch Leven/Vane Farm.
Photographed in the Sagebrush Road Rookery in Hillsborough, Florida.

This glossy-black flowerpiercer has a distinctive silvery patch on the shoulder. Most similar to Black Flowerpiercer, which is smaller and lacks the shoulder patch in most of its range (although in east Andes in Colombia, Black Flowerpiercer has a small gray shoulder patch). Sexes similar. Also note the typical flowerpiercer bill: uniquely upswept with a hooked tip. Found in the Andes from western Venezuela to northern Peru from around 2,700–3,700 m. Typically seen singly or in pairs foraging at all levels in stunted forest and shrubby woodlands. Usually found in more humid areas than Black Flowerpiercer.
This one was photographed in Colombia guided by Neotropic Photo Tours.

The Archives Revisited.
April 2007.
In 2007 a flock of 17 Glossy Ibis ( a rare visitor to the UK ) spent several days resting on the outer fields at Slimbridge. They spent most of their time on a part of the reserve that the public do not have access too. I was fortunate to get restricted access to try to photograph them.

A rainy week on Mallorca, but that means some very nice diffuse light in the moments where everything is clear. On the Wednesday my wife and I came upon a group of eight glossy ibises foraging for crustaceans. As they left this fellow was kind enough to give a nice fly by into the evening light and show off his iridescent sheen.
