On 3rd July 1973, David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust - his most celebrated alter-ego - in front of 5000 fans at London's Hammersmith Odeon.
Bowie's performance was captured on film by award-winning director DA Pennebaker and released under the title "Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture".
On 3rd July 2023, The Eventim Apollo (formerly the Odeon) hosted the global premiere of the digitally restored film, and it was simultaneously shown in cinemas worldwide.

In an increasingly competitive environment, London plumbing companies spent much time in the late seventies trying to outdo one another.
One such - the Glamrock Plumbing Company - tried the angle of female plumbers, who would come to your home and sing while they worked.
Their ability to handle a tool combined with their bouncy little ditties were a great success, and GPC went on to become one of the largest plumbing concerns in London, until their founder, Maisie Crenelate, resigned to take up a new career as a punk dentist.
It was a move that seemed to involve much spitting.

Catapult was a Dutch glam rock band active between 1973 and 1979.
The band formed in the Summer of 1973 when during a holiday in the Spanish resort of Lloret de Mar, Geertjan Hessing, Erwin van Prehn, Aart Mol and Cees Bergman decided to form a band. The four were veterans of the Dutch rock scene but had achieved little success up to that time. Later that year keyboard player Michael Eschauzier joined them. The band's name was suggested by Golden Earring vocalist Barry Hay. He suggested them to play glamrock, at that time very popular.The band logo was designed by the artist Wim T. Schippers. They released their first single, Hit The Big Time, produced by ex Golden Earring drummer Jaap Eggermont early in 1974. As the title suggests, the song was about their stay in Spain. It is a raunchy, catchy, and primarily energetic song that was to place the band in the middle of the glitter rage. Using a combination of extravagant attire, outrageous haircuts, and flashy rock and roll, Catapult quickly became the Dutch answer to British acts like The Sweet, Mud, and Slade. Hit The Big Time reached #16 on the Dutch singles chart. Keyboardist Eschauzier was replaced in April 1974 by Elmer Veerhoff. The band had several hit singles between 1974 and 1975, the most successful being Let Your Hair Hang Down which reached #5 on the Dutch singles chart. Other hits were Teeny-Bopper Band, Seven Eleven and The Stealer. Alex Gitlin at his music site: "These works showed that Catapult, as opposed to many of their contemporaries, were no 'dime a dozen' band. The songs are put together intelligently, the arrangements are adventurous, and the musicianship leaves nothing to be desired. The high, recognizable vocals of Cees Bergman were also an extra attraction." As glam rock became less popular Catapult's fortunes took a downturn and they split up in 1979. The band continued to work together though, forming a production company called Cat Music and recording as Rubberen Robbie with some success in the Netherlands and Belgium.

I was a huge Slade fan during the early 1970s and I saved my paper-round money to buy their records. The first Slade single I bought was ‘Take Me Bak 'Ome’ followed by ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’ and ‘Gudbuy 'T Jane’. I also bought their ‘Slayed?’ album and I loved watching them on television’s Top of the Pops.
But for me Slade reached new heights with their ‘Cum On Feel the Noize’ single which was released in early 1973. The record went straight to number one, apparently this was the first time a single had done so since The Beatles' ‘Get Back’ in 1969.
I can still remember the first time I heard ‘Cum On Feel the Noize’, Noddy Holder’s screaming voice over thrashing guitars. I think in a way Slade’s sound and energy was a forerunner of punk, which would arrive with a bang just a few years later.
In 1974 Slade played a daytime concert in London which was filmed for their ‘Slade In Flame’ film. My cousin had heard about the concert and he went along to the filming. He also invited me but my mum wouldn’t let me go because she didn’t want me to miss a day at school. I did go to see the ‘Slade In Flame’ film though at Penge Odeon, when it was released in 1975 .

Il 24 ottobre al Teatro Sociale di Como, Mika rivisiterà il suo repertorio di successi e proporrà nuove canzoni in chiave sinfonica con l’orchestra “Affinis Consort”, diretta da Simon Leclerc, creata appositamente per l’occasione da 81 professionisti internazionali: 65 strumentisti e 16 coristi.
Lo spettacolo nasce dal desiderio di Mika di replicare in Italia l’incredibile esperienza dei tre concerti sinfonici tenutisi a Montréal lo scorso febbraio, in cui ha confermato la sua versatilità e la qualità del suo repertorio pop, anche in chiave classica.
Il concerto arriva dopo i grandi successi estivi al Fabrique di Milano, al Teatro Antico di Taormina e all’Arena della Regina di Cattolica e le prossime tre date nei palasport di Milano (27 settembre), Roma (29 settembre) e Firenze (30 settembre). Le prevendite per la serata speciale partiranno da giovedì 1 ottobre.
Simon Leclerc è un affermato compositore di colonne sonore per la Paramount e direttore d’orchestra canadese a cui Mika ha affidato l’arrangiamento in chiave classica del suo repertorio. Dopo i concerti di Montreal, Mika ha entusiasticamente dichiarato: “Provenendo io stesso da una formazione professionale classica, per me è straordinario sentire le mie canzoni nelle veste classica che Simon ha dato loro, perché nella mia mente, le ho sempre immaginate così!”
Dal piccolo ensemble alla grande orchestra sinfonica. Dalle fondamenta classiche alle contaminazioni contemporanee e pop.
Affinis Consort racchiude nel suo dna la multiformità del suo essere.
L'unione di mondi, il Canada e l'Italia. Il superamento dei confini geografici e culturali. Il connubio e la condivisione delle esperienze che ogni singolo musicista porta sul palco, elevando le affinità.
