Killer Surprise that Giuda was playing at the Liar's Club in Chicago when we just happened to be there!
British rocker Billy Idol, whose real name is William Michael Albert Broad, first achieved fame in the 1970s emerging from the London punk rock scene as the lead singer of the group Generation X. Later, he embarked on a solo career which led to international recognition and made Idol a lead artist during the MTV-driven “Second British Invasion” in the United States. The name “Billy Idol” was inspired by a schoolteacher’s description of him as “idle.”
Time waits for no man. This punk rocker is now in his mid-60s and hosts a bi-weekly radio show on Sirius XM First Wave.

The album cover of Bowie’s Aladdin Sane is such a well known image that it can be difficult to imagine the impact this had on a young teenager like me back in 1973. But I had never seen anything like this before and I thought it was just amazing.
Aladdin Sane wasn’t my favourite Bowie album, I preferred 'Hunky Dory' and 'Ziggy Stardust', but it did have two fantastic singles on it: ‘Drive-In Saturday’ and ‘The Jean Genie’.
Side one
1. Watch That Man
2. Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?)
3. Drive-In Saturday
4. Panic in Detroit
5. Cracked Actor
Side two
1. Time
2. The Prettiest Star
3. Let's Spend the Night Together
4. The Jean Genie
5. Lady Grinning Soul

I must admit I wasn’t a big T.Rex fan in the early 70s. I liked their music and I bought the singles: "Metal Guru" and "Solid Gold Easy Action" in 1972, but their singer Marc Bolan appealed more to girls than to me and my friends. My sister had a Bolan poster on her bedroom wall but I was too much into Slade to bother about T.Rex.
But by 1977 Marc Bolan was appealing to a new audience which included young punks like me. He went on tour with The Damned as support band (unfortunately I didn’t go to any of these gigs) and fronted his own six-part television series called ‘Marc’ which was broadcast in August/September 1977. His TV show was something of a comeback and I think it proved that his music and attitude was relevant to the summer of ’77; he also featured young punk bands on his show which included including Generation X, The Jam and Eddie and the Hot Rods. To me this was fantastic because punk bands were rarely on television back then.
I was especially looking forward to seeing the final show because it featured my hero David Bowie. I was at work on Friday 16 September 1977, which started as just another normal day. It was around 11:00am that morning that someone told me they had just heard on the radio that Marc Bolan had been killed in a car crash. I was shocked and I was hoping that it wasn’t true, but I went out at lunchtime and bought the early edition of London’s Evening News newspaper and the terrible news was on the front-page. I have kept my copy of the newspaper ever since.

Phat Quarter Swap: The 1970's
Made for Salvaged Mutiny
12"x12"
This piece was inspired by the most 'out of this world' gold records of the 1970's: The golden records aboard each of the voyager spacecraft and David Bowie's Alaiddin Sane. The work of Carl Sagan and David Bowie has been a great inspiration for me over the years so I decided to create a tribute to these swell fellas. I've been wanting to give embroidering on wood board a go and this seemed like an appropriate project because of all the awful wood paneling that was so popular in the 1970s.
Hong Kong Phooey!

This machine was awesome and handled better than any coach.
I had this tuned up by an old boy from Cummins. The type of engineer that would put his glasses on the end of his nose, worked silently but had forgotten more about Cummins' than the average grease monkey would ever know!
She would pull away with a little black smoke and would crackle all the way up to 100kph (and beyond if Fat Noel was behind the wheel)
My Superliner drivers were on £1000 per week and they worked very hard. But the Superliners HAD to be immaculate AT ALL TIMES. (And indeed they were)!
This is a member of a group from Los Angeles (HWS Rembiko Project) who performed their version of 'Othello', called 'Bennie Othella & The Jets', at last year's Edinburgh Fringe.
In this version, Othello is turned into Bennie Othella, a female 70s glam rocker, with a jealous rival among her backing singers ('The Jets'). There was a live orchestra playing a variety of songs, which included 'I Am The Walrus'.
It was a great show and lots of fun to photograph.
