Oh well, I got for the awesome old art work anyway ! Any game pieces are just a bonus to me. When I am just really collecting to cool vintage art :)
Original Image by Hasbro, 1985.
I own so few vintage Joe boxes that I’m proud when I get to show off one of my own.
The 1985 G.I. Joe USS FLAGG Aircraft carrier. Missing the Megaphone. Never assembled, all original parts, with Keel Haul, still sealed in bags.
The G.I. Joe USS FLAGG was first released in 1985. In the spring of 1985 I turned down an offer for a USS Flagg. This will require a bit of an explanation.
For those of you who were not into Joe until 1985 or later, or for those of you were not even born yet, allow me set the stage. In the spring of 1985 the release of new Joes was impossible to find! I don’t mean specific figures, like the Storm Shadow, Firefly, or Ripcord of the year before, the entire 1985 line up of carded figures would evaporate the minute it was pulled out of a department store stock room. For those of us who were into G.I. Joe from the initial line up in 1982, this was particularly distressing.
The toy line and comic title had been building momentum each year since it's cardinal run in 1982. Coming off the amazing line up of 1984 any toy line would have done well. But in 1985 something was different. For the first time, the new animated mini series- The Revenge if Cobra, featured characters that had yet to be released. This made these characters very popular prior to their arrival. In the spring of 1985 the demand for these already endeared characters was ravenous and there were considerably more kids getting to the brand.
My father, coming from a long line of vets, was more than supportive of me collecting G.I. Joe. The old man saw the disappointment in my eyes every time I'd come home from a birthday party and some kid from school got the new ‘85 figures. My mom would take me to every big name toy store, department store, and every little mom and pop shop in the secret local network that we used to find the more elusive 1984 characters. No luck. My dad eventually offered to take me into the city with him one day to a place he was sure would have them. What my dad failed to realize was that FAO Schwartz was a big ticket item toy store for the Manhattan elite. When we got to the 2nd floor, just past the escalators, we saw the USS Flagg set up on display. Sadly that was the only Joe item that they carried! As if to mock me further, the deck of the massive ship featured all of the figures that I could not find.
I can still remember standing there between the men’s and woman’s rest rooms, glaring at those white linoleum tiles of the hallway floor. My hackles were up, my jaw clenched, fists balled, and I could feel the heat of rage welling up in my face. My poor Dad. I could see that he felt terrible for me. He offered to get me the Flagg right then and there. God bless him. I was indignant and said, "No. It's too big" But, in my heart, I said “Fuck GI Joe!“ Irish spite I guess. Even Freud couldn’t figure us out.
Hasbro stepped up. Eventually I found all of the 1985 figures and harbor many fond memories of bringing most of them home. Some I bought, others I left on the pegs but I got every figure that I wanted. But I never went back to get that Flagg.
As of today, that's all behind me now. Another childhood memory fixed.

This room used to be the G I Joe room until back in 2012 but since I built the new toy room at the end of 2012 this room was used as store room for household junk as the new toy room then could accommodate most of toys but as time went by it became chaotic with toys arriving so often. So I have cleared all the junk and made this one once again a figure room. Although it is a very small one it can help to ease space issue at least for now for a little while.
It looks a bit empty and unorganized at the moment but I am sure it will look packed again with better display soon.
The 1983 Cobra Viper Glider came with the Viper Glider Pilot as its operator.
This these are not the 1983 G.I. Joe gliders.
These beautiful reproductions are from Screamin' Ehmann Customs. The first 100 to roll out were in individual boxes. I would have preferred those but they sold out in minuets. By the time I found out about these, even this second wave of 100 pieces sold out. The second wave was released for Christmas, combined in a single box. I'm assuming to keep shipping costs down. Regardless, I am extremely happy to have grabbed what I believe to be the last available set. This set was also sold out but it seems that one buyer did not come through with payment and this gem was put up on their Ebay page. I did not waste a second. Collectors are already flipping these for a few hundred a pop. Actual vintage MiB gliders go for over thirty five hundred dollars. MiB is the only way to ensure that your vintage Styrofoam glider is not damaged. I did not mind dropping four grand for my mint in box USS Flagg but the same price for a three piece foam glider hardly seems justifiable. Enter Screamin' Ehmann. I cannot express how grateful I am to have these and feel that, for the price, I got the better end of the deal.
First things first. The box is gorgeous. This is more than just icing on the cake. The rear of the box is pretty close, save the missing file card. In its place he have a certificate from Ehmann. Instructions/Blueprints are included as well.
The sheet plastic replicas are the exact size as the vintage gliders and pretty close to the same width. They assemble the same way. The decals are printed on so there is not risk of them pealing off in time. The gliders include 3D printed harness clips that are almost dead on accurate to the vintage clips. The only difference is that the pegs are tapered to accommodate 6" figures, and modern 4" figures. Fortunately I have the vintage harness clips. I used the real 1983 clips in these photos. Yes the vintage clips do fit! The set includes rubber bands similar to the vintage set, to help keep your figures on the glider.
The gliders are lovely quality and have a nice egg shell finish. The print job feels very high quality (my father was a printer for the King Features syndicate, if you read a comic strip in a newspaper in the US, during the late 70s to the mid 80s it was my dad's work - so I'm qualified to judge the printing.)
It's a lovely set. It doesn't fly but let's be frank, the vintage ones didn't either.
Screamin' Ehmann has an Ebay and Facebook page. His Facebook page URL is on the right side of the rear of the box.
Fully geared up. Vest is from the Toys City Pararescue Jumper, and almost all the pouches and stuff are Toys City as well, except the IFAK pouch which I think is Playhouse.

I know that for many of my fellow Joe fans 1985 was THE year. Maybe the cartoon going on full time attracted more fans. Maybe the brand was riding the crest of the 1984 line up from the year before? Maybe Kenner's Star Wars line dried up at this point? I do remember being very upset at how difficult the ‘85 figures were to find because of what I called, "new comers." To me, the 1984 line up was a high water mark for both Joe and Cobra. Only the 1986 line up comes close for Joes. Nothing comes close for Cobras. That’s not to say that 1985 didn’t have some great figures like Flint, Lady Jaye, Snake Eyes V2, Dusty, Footloose, Eels, Snow Serpents, and the Twins, but that wave had too many goof balls for my liking. The bulk of my fondest memories are acquiring and playing with the 1984 GI Joe line up.

Wild Weasel did not come carded, rather the figure came in the box with the Cobra Rattler. I appreciate how Beggars Canyon Toys handled the cards for the vehicle drivers.

File Card:
File Name: Classified
Birthplace: Classified
Primary Specialty: Ground support pilot
Wild Weasel cut his teeth in the bus wars of South America and Africa during the last decade. His knowledge of close support aircraft ranges from jury-rigged civilian conversions to ultra state-of-the-art flying weapons platforms. A mouth injury inflicted during a strafing run is rumored to be the cause of the characteristic sibilance in his speech pattern.
Wild Bill says: "He may be a back-shootin', low down snake in the grass, but the boy can fly like nobody's business. You gotta respect the skunk for that! Hey-what did Voltaire say? To forgive our enemies their virtues-that is the greater miracle."
This unlikely kitbash boasts the body of Pursuit of Cobra Jungle Duke and the head of WWE's "Rated R Superstar", Edge.
The original G.I. Joe A Real American Hero Footloose figure included arguably the most arresting and poignant file card bio ever:
Meyers was Valedictorian of his high school class, captain of the track team, and an Eagle Scout. He was going for his degree in Phys. Ed. on a state scholarship when he suddenly dropped out, moved to the coast and became quite weird for about three years. He was standing on the boardwalk in Venice pondering something cosmic when the utter pointlessness of his existence hit him between the eyes like a runaway freight train. "I think I'll join the Army," he said, and promptly did...
"Some of the Joes think that Footloose is out there, but all he's trying to do is find himself. He's the All-American Boy who got lost on the way to the fair and he's simply trying to go home any which way he can. Most folks think they know who they are and where they're going... They're the dangerous ones!"
About 35" x 25" large poster of 35th Year G I Joe poster. It's been in storage since 2000. One day I will hang it on the wall with a nice frame.

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION - Red carpet movie premiere tonight, Event Cinemas, Sydney, Australia - 14th March 2013...
With Dwayne Johnson aka 'The Rock' (WWE Champion)
Finally The Rock has come to Sydney, Australia (as they say in pro wrestling WWE style).
Thousands of Dwayne Johnson and G.I Joe movie fans lined the red carpet and George Street, as security was at an all time high with dozens of police officers and security guards taking care of business (and helping protect some of the hottest movie stars on the planet).
Dozens of news media were there, all jockeying for position.
Some fans waited over 5 hours for a top position, and one lucky fan had his hand crafted oil painting of 'The Rock' autographed. He was lucky... there were simply too many fans there for Rocky to sign everything presented.
In between celeb appearances, masked Ninja warriors performed fight scenes and stunts that kept everyone entertained.
Dozens of other celebrities showed up to walk the red carpet, but only ROCKY got his name chanted. Rocky showed us in person why he is also known as "The Peoples Champion". Did we mention Rock showed up in some sort of armoured tank... that's what his early tweet was about.. #WhoTheHellNeedsLimos
Music News Australia and Media Man International would like to thank Paramount Pictures, Event Cinemas, and all the helpful PR, media and security people who looked after us so well.
This movie has smash hit written all over it. Whether your a ROCK, wrestling, G.I Joe or action movie, chances are you are going to love this movie.
This was a contender for 'Australian red carpet event of the year', and if you like action blockbusters, also add in 'movie of the year'.
We hear it's one of those movies that are totally awesome on the big screen, so if you don't usually go to the cinemas to see movies, seriously think about seeing this one, and the good news is that Aussies will be able to see it from March 28.

The G.I. Joe Conquest X 30. Complete and restored with new decals.
The vehicle was first released in 1986 with the fifth wave of the collection.
I don't recall if this was a gift or if I bought it myself but I do know that it was an emotional want. You see, I was never really fond of the vehicle. The missiles look cheap and while the decals do have some nice big graphics the jet lacks many of the those little official looking decals. This fighter feels like a kid designed the decals and left out all off of the little, important details. I got the vehicle to fill the void that not getting the Sky Striker left. This did not fill that void. The Night Raven did though! The reverse winged fighter and it's pilot has really grown on me over the years. I guess it felt too, "new school" in 86 but now has that same nostalgic patina as the Sky Striker. I had it restored for a while now but finally got around to ordering the new decals.
Thank you for stealing, raping, and lying to us, Joe.
We miss you, but we'll take better aim next time.
Photos of Kirk Rambow's epic G.I. Joe collection icluding the legendary U.S.S Flagg- The G.I. Joe aircraft carrier. I'm pretty sure this is the largest child's toy that has ever been made. Very few of these things left in the world. Pictures feature the process of building the U.S.S Flagg step by step. This is one of he most complete examples of the U.S.S Flagg left in existence, it has every imaginable original part, and is missing only 3-4 deck pins ( the clips that hold the runway down to the skeleton of the U.S.S Flagg ) . This thing should be in a museum, filed under " Most awesome toy ever" .
Ripper was released in the second wave of comic packs in 2008 with Torch.
Ripper is complete with Power Jaws, assault rifle with metal splitter, hydraulic hose & power pack with frame and stand.

Custom printed G.I. Joe unit patch on the left sleeve, glued onto the uniform. It's a little messy because I didn't take the flight suit off to glue on the patch.
I'm not crazy with this unit patch since it came from the pretty awful live-action movie,, but it's not bad and it's also all we have to work with for now. So it'll do.
G.I. Joe edition of last year's photo. The face pic was taken on the same day a year ago. The rest is grabbed from the internet.
I had G.I. Joes as a kid. And, this particular "Talking G.I. Joe" was the first one I had. I got it for Christmas in 1970, or so. The adults were so fascinated by the talking feature that they all wanted to make him talk... and they broke him! Fortunately, they were able to fix him.
I took so many photos each day during my 365 project, that I've decided to do a "365 Rewind" project by posting an out take every day that was taken one year before.
