Close up of the right wings of this dragonfly taken in my daughter's garden.

Some fun facts on dragonfly that might surprise you

Dragonflies spent most of their lives underwater.

Adult dragonflies only live up to 6 months, they end up spending more time of their lives in water than the air.

Dragonflies lay their eggs in water. Upon hatching, the larva will remain aquatic for 2 to 5 years depending on the species.

During this stage, they would breathe using their gills.

Dragonfly nymphs eat any underwater creature smaller than them.

Some bigger species of dragonfly can even hunt and eat small fish as larvae.

After the larva stage, they would crawl out of the water with the dragonfly’s exoskeleton cracking open to release its abdomen.

During this period, its four wings will start to emerge, drying and solidifying within the next several days.

The wings of the dragonfly provide superior stability with high load-bearing capacity as it flies, glides, and hovers.

Their wings are made of membranes and veins with a complex design that provides excellent versatility, agility as well as performing maneuverable fliers.

Just a single dragonfly can eat up to 100 mosquitoes per day.

Having two or more dragonflies in the garden or near the house would certainly slow down the mosquito’s population.

Adult dragonflies only eat when they are flying.

Hence if they are injured and cannot fly, they will starve to death.

Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated..

Peaceful Saturday

Having fun on a Saturday :D

This is my little round piece of mica, glimmer raising up from the snow

Sunrise is reflecting on its cheek, so it came out kind of blushing, a humble little one

Aaaw

It's all melted to a ball

It is actually not a crystal, it's a mineral

You recognize the stuff we found on the ground

And we thought it was gold

We felt it, didn't we

How rich we were

Precious moments of childhood, simple joy

If you have it close to you it may open up for communication between human beings, they say :)

In Norway we call this Crow's Silver

FunFact:

I did actually shoot another shot for this theme.

I had been laying low on the snow (I use the natural cheap tripod😂) shooting a very nice round blue jewelry.

I thought it was more suitable for the theme. But I noticed that I didn't get the photo quite right. So,

I went in to get my macrolens.

The jewelry was wating patiently

So was Aiko

I fetched the lens

Aiko had moved his butt

Upon where I had had my photoshooting

The jewelry was gone

I didn't find it

It's tons of snow in my garden

And I don't know if Aiko ate it either.

Lol

I bet there is a reason for everything, so here is my Crow'sSilverBall instead of the gorgeous blue glimmering ball I had fetched for you.

Happy Smile On Saturday you all, I hope I made you smile :D

That's my mission for today.

Delicious taste.

They can be a nuisance and invasive in the garden, but Omnom if you are out hiking and grab a couple, they are all over the place now - its like an explosion of taste in your mouth.

FunFact

Have you heard of this expression;

"She blew a raspberry"

It means a sound made with the tongue and lips in order to express derision or contempt.

I love trying to take photos of this fungus.

I think it is a bit difficult maybe because of the red colour, it is very bright and can be a bit hard to see the texture, but I love it even tho :D

Funfact from Wikipedia:

Although classified as poisonous, reports of human deaths resulting from its ingestion are extremely rare. After parboiling—which weakens its toxicity and breaks down the mushroom's psychoactive substances—it is eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. Amanita muscaria is noted for its hallucinogenic properties

This is Haugesund, situated on the west coast of Norway

In the middle of the photo you can see Avaldsnes Church (formally St. Olav's Church at Avaldsnes).

This church has been a landmark for seafarers passing through the Karmsundet strait for 750 years.

Funfact;

Mary's Needle, known in Norwegian as the sewing needle of Virgin Mary, is the only one remaining of several monumental stones which once stood around the church area. The stone has been somewhat taller, but, towering at 7.2 metres (24 ft) it is still the next largest of its kind in Norway. The stone leans in towards the church wall - the distance to the wall is in fact only 9.2 centimetres (3.6 in).

A saga tells that "the day of Judgement will come when the stone comes into contact with the church wall". A popular story tells us about the minister in ages past climbing up the monument and cutting off a piece from the stone when it came dangerously near the church wall!

Wikipedia

This tiny chapel is from the Middle Ages.

They assume that around 1200 the first church was probably built here, and there are many indications that this was laid on an old pagan place of worship.

Funfact:

Just off the coast here was a shipwreck in 1842 that claimed 389 Russian lives. Most were buried in Varhaug old cemetery, which is now protected. A memorial has also been erected over the Russians.

In 2003, the Norwegian rockband Kaizers Orchestra, used this place in the recording of the music video for their song "Evig Pint" from the album of the same name.

The chapel is often used in marriages, sounds smart in these days where it's smart not be many attending 😁

When I first fall in love with a thing I use and use and use it

I'm not fond of too much, less is more for me

The jewelry I have around my neck is there all the time, been there now for years

The upper one is an angel I bought on a wonderful week I had in Ireland some years ago

I believe there are angels, around us, in us, out there, watching and whispering to us

So it suits well with my belief

The heart is obvious why I wear.

Love has been lacking in my life earlier on, I've always been giving love, but not receiving - for odd reasons

Love is the greatest there is in our life, the greatest gift ever to give and receive

I'm now in receive mode too, how cool isn't that - being balanced

The pearl symbolize for me wisdom acquired through experience.

The pearl is also said to symbolize the generosity, integrity, purity and loyalty of its wearer.

I have always loved pearls, I used to make pearl jewelry, like neclaces.

I still have loads of pearls in my box, ready to make some more jewelry, all in due time

I love giving them away when I'm finished making them, especially with the thought of what they represent for me

Funfact:

The ancient Egyptians prized pearls so much that they were buried with them. Cleopatra reportedly dissolved a pearl from one of her earrings in a glass of either wine or vinegar, depending on the source, and drank it.

She did this just to show Mark Anthony that she could devour the wealth of an entire nation in just one gulp.

So change Cleopatra with Eva and Mark Anthony with Mark

hehe

I'm ready world, yup, I'm ready

One week to go and Mark will be here, woohoooo

Have a wonderful Saturday

rocks

How surprising - lol

This beach is not of the ordinary kind when you want to go for a swim, the waves here are hammering in and it is not easy to stroll around.

It's more jumping you need to do, from rock to rock.

Funfact:

Mølen in Brunlanes, Larvik, is a geopark and Norway's largest beach of rolling stones.

It is a part of Vestfoldraet, the terrain left behind after the end of the most recent ice age around 10,000 years ago.

Mølen is one of Larvik's most popular tourist attractions. It is home to over a hundred species of rock, including Norway's national stone, Larvikite, which is named from the area.

The wind and sea have lashed the landscape of Mølen for thousands of years, and the place takes its name from the Old Norse word "mol", meaning a stone mound or bank of stones.

Part 1 || smelling

Beagles have 45 times more scent receptors than humans.

A beagle's olfactory lobe in the brain is about 40 times larger than a human.

All of a beagle's scent membranes would unfold to 60 sq. in. The same in a human would only be 1 sq. inch. That's like comparing a piece of paper to a stamp!

A beagle's sense of smell is 1,000-10,000 times greater than a human's.

Baker often smells things before he sees them. Like the deer that showed up shortly after this was taken.

Gorgeous animals

Massive

Huge

Impressive

And fast..

Some funfacts from wiki:

A muskox can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph)

They can weigh up till 410 kg (900 lb)...

The wool, qiviut, is highly prized for its softness, length, and insulation value. Prices for yarn range between $40 and $80 per ounce (28 g)

Its Inuktitut name "umingmak" translates to "the bearded one"

I felt awe all the way, it was immensely cool to observe them in their own habitat and how humble and careful our guide was in the meeting of these gorgeous ones

And sharing this with my best friend ever was übercool, to say the least 💖

Nidarosdomen in her infrared glory! When I bought my first medium format camera, this was the first shoot I had in mind.

Here is a couple of funfacts about the Nidaros Cathedral.

1. The cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, the Viking king who converted Norway to Christianity and became “Norway's Eternal King”.

2. No one has claimed ownership to the cathedral. The state pays for restoration work, but its still unclair who owns it.

3. Norwegian black metal band Mayhem used the cathedral as album cover on their seconds LP, «De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas». And it was rumored that they planned to blow up (with dynamite) the cathedral the same year as they released the album.

I took this photo with my Bronica SQ 6x6 camera and Ilford SFX 200.

For "ages" I have tough about shooting this frame with my Mamiya 7ii. Think this frame is a bit tight. But, it will do for now.

Train: MD 00279 from Almeria to Madrid Chamartin with Renfe 334 003

This town suits me perfectly I love living here - it's so much to see and capture.

Funfact:

You can use "to a T" or "to a tee" to mean perfectly or exactly right. For example, if something suits you to a T, it suits you perfectly. If you have an activity or skill down to a T, you have succeeded in doing it exactly right.

Ende Februar 2025 an.

It's not often I see mushrooms and plants grow on an ants pile, normally the ants are quick to remove non-ants-things in their home

Maybe they have benefits of having the mushrooms there

Mushrooms leave a floor of threads, like a web (mycel), underneath the ground that exchanges water and nourishment, so it might be that these ants found that very nice

Funfact: Did you know that mushrooms are closely related to animals and not to plants, analyses from genes has shown this. Quite interesting, I think.

Another funfact: Vikings traveling throughout the world to conquer you all, brought mushrooms as food, if it was eaten by insects when they picked them, they assumed they could eat it too

We are too cute, aren't we

New release out now at the mainstore

The hint of spring set includes at yellow watering can and a potted snowdrop plant.

p.s. I decided on snowdrops because bees pollinate them during february and march #funfacts

Ende Februar 2025 an.

#funfact. The volcano in the background wasn't climbed until the 1700's because the locals believed it to be the gate to hell.

Funfacts:

It opened on 7 July 1989.

It consists of eight bridges and four resting places and viewpoints and the road is a 8.274-kilometer (5.141 mi) long section of County Road 64. This is the most spectacular one.

During construction the area was hit by 12 European windstorms.

The road has become a popular place for the automotive industry to film advertisements; more than ten manufacturers have made television commercials along the route, often depicting the harsh weather.

Construction cost NOK 122 million and was financed 25 percent by debt to be recollected through tolls, 25 percent by job creation funds and 50 percent by ordinary state road grants. There was significant local opposition against toll financing, as few people believed it would be possible to pay off the road in the stipulated 15 years.

However, by June 1999 the road was paid off and tolls removed. The accelerated amortization was caused both by greater than predicted local traffic and by large amounts of tourist traffic

Aiko founds his inner peace in these surroundings!

😊

Funfact from Wikipedia;

" In Hinduism, Om is one of the most important spiritual symbols. It refers to Atman (soul, self within) and Brahman (ultimate reality, entirety of the universe, truth, divine, supreme spirit, cosmic principles, knowledge).

The syllable is often found at the beginning and the end of chapters in the Vedas, the Upanishads, and other Hindu texts.

It is a sacred spiritual incantation made before and during the recitation of spiritual texts, during puja and private prayers, in ceremonies of rites of passages (sanskara) such as weddings, and sometimes during meditative and spiritual activities such as Yoga."

I'm really excited to have started several collaborations lately, with organizations that wants to do more of what I love; to share photos and short facts, with the hope that others will learn more about, and pay more attention to, the birds and nature around us.

So soon my photos of birds and plants will be seen in even more arenas, which I will tell more about later ツ

This is a meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis) that I met up close in our neighborhood. It's one of the most common bird species here.

A funfact is that on moorlands, meadow pipits are the most common 'foster parents' of young cuckoos (gjøk in Norwegian). The adult cuckoo will lay a single egg in a meadow pipit's nest, and after hatching the cuckoo chick will push the other eggs or young birds out of the nest, giving its foster parents more time to concentrate on feeding their new, oversized chick.

For this spring round of The Season Story, opening on the 10th of april at midnight,

I've created this trendy necklace made of real human teeth,

It goes well with a summer dress.

The necklace is unrigged and modify, so you can easily fit it to desired size! It comes with a hud for texture options.

The teeth come in Human teeth color, Gold, Black, and Silver.

The loops come in Silver and Gold, and the string in Black or Brown.

Funfact:

It's a re-vamp of one of the first things I made in SL (never released, this was way before I opened my store.)

Oh, the nostalgia!

Special thanks to Doc&Grim for being stunning models.

A meadow pipit (Anthus petrosus) from our neighbourhood.

They are a bit similar to their rock pipit cousins that I posted yesterday, but while the rock pipits mostly are found precisely on rocks and beaches by the sea, the meadow pipits are mostly found by the meadows and fields.

And while many rock pipits winter here by the sea, I have only seen two meadow pipits choosing to winter in our neighbourhood. But soon many of them will be back from Western and Southern Europe, filling our fields.

A funfact is that meadow pipits are the most common 'foster parents' of young cuckoos (gjøk in Norwegian). The adult cuckoo will lay a single egg in a meadow pipit's nest, and after hatching the cuckoo chick will push the other eggs or young birds out of the nest, giving its foster parents more time to concentrate on feeding their new, oversized chick.

A panoramic drone view over the outer Oslofjord near Drøbaksundet, featuring the iconic Filtvet Lighthouse (Filtvet fyr) perched on the rocky edge of Hurumlandet. Since 1840, this coastal beacon has guided ships sailing through the busy fjord toward Oslo. Today, it's one of the most picturesque lighthouses in Eastern Norway.

Looking inland from the outer Oslofjord, this panorama reveals the charming village of Filtvet nestled in lush greenery, with its historic lighthouse marking one of the fjord’s narrow points near Drøbak. A striking contrast between sea, sky, and land.

Funfacts:

Filtvet Lighthouse was automated in 1985 and is now a popular photo spot and cultural venue — even hosting art exhibitions and summer concerts.

The Oslofjord isn't technically a fjord by geological standards — it's a glacially carved inlet — but don't tell the Norwegians that!

On very clear days, ships entering this part of the fjord can navigate by aligning the light from Filtvet with that of nearby lighthouses — a classic coastal triangulation technique.

During World War II, the Oslofjord — including areas around Filtvet — played a key role in the German invasion of Norway, with strategic control over the waterway proving decisive.

Yes, it's still the falcon...

only some studs bigger than my old model of 2019 but this one comes with a lot updates and features a complete new covering.

It took about 2 years on an off working on this one.

This time I tried to get as close as possible to the circle form

and I tried to close most of the gabs on the covering.

The model features many ucs styled details within a scale that fits on every shelf.

Due to the system scale the proportions are still a bit bulk. therefore it has a full interior!

The model is more strength now. E.g. the cover slices can be fixed in position.

Still this is more a display model than play model.

I tried to built the instructions as much understandable as possible. But as I am a not the best practiced builder, there can be tough sections here and there.

Postcard with a photo of a jellyfish and fun facts about these animals. Sent by a Postcrossing member in the United States.

I have two fun facts about Dot (my best friend). One is her hair always looks different and two is her eyes change color. Those are superpowers if I've ever seen any before. We are now trying to hone in on how we can use these powers for good by trying to save the world from destroying itself. Hey, don't underestimate cuteness, that force is strong!

We had quite the trip getting to this cave, called Mikaelshulen.

It was steep up and of course steep down.

And far down the cliff it was a lake, so you could both hurt yourself and drown if you wanted..

Aiko did well, Mark had to lift him up where it was at the steepest, but otherwise he did what we said he should do.

Fun to do something different 😊

Funfact from Wikipedia:

St Michael's Cave on the east side of Norsjø in Telemark is said to have been decorated as a Catholic church dedicated to the Archangel Michael until the Reformation in 1537.

In its time, the cave is said to have been equipped as a church with vestibule, nave, choir and altar and in Catholic times it was dedicated to the archangel Michael. Masses were also held here after Catholic times. It was also an important place of pilgrimage for pilgrims.

Around 20 St. Michael's churches are known in Norway. They were often placed in caves or on rocks, because in such places the archangel Michael would fight against Satan in the form of a serpent or dragon.

Totally watched Zombieland for like the millionth time today :D hahaha. I'm not wearing any makeup in this picture and I did not do my hair :) Anyways, today was awesome so I decided that enjoying the little things is important. My life is starting to suck less. :) I notice I wear a lot of yellow. ahahha. Well, for no reason whatsoever I feel like tagging people, so I shall :)

0. I always do 12 facts on flickr instead of 10 because 12 is better :)

1. I'd so much rather hang out with guys, girls are so catty and ridiculous. Guys have adventures :)

2. I'm a sarcastic smartass 99% of the time.

A not wild animal, not in its natural environment.

Funfact : Cornelius was called 'cornichon' (= pickle in French) when he was in the rescue association where we adopted him.

7 days with Flickr, Sunday's theme is Fauna.

Funfact; Fauna comes from the Greek names Fauna, a Roman goddess of earth and fertility, the Roman god Faunus, and the related forest spirits called Fauns.

Sundays are one of the more relaxing days and I'm having fun with the squirrel I have in my garden.

I think this little incident in my photo ended up with a dance and a laugh in the ballroom 😁

Here is a fun fact about clovers: There is one four-leaf clover for every ten thousand three-leaf clovers. Some may call it luck. I call it, "You'll find what you are looking for if you keep looking."

Funfact, this is the first cat-person I've made in over a decade.

During the spacewalk of the two astronauts Raja Chari and Matthias Maurer the International Space Station appeared shortly after sunset in the bright evening sky over Germany.

This image of the ISS pass on March 23, 2022 was taken under good seeing conditions from the hometown of ESA astronaut Dr. Matthias Maurer. The docked SpaceX Dragon capsule, with which the astronauts of Crew-3 flew to the ISS, is clearly visible.

Three years ago I got to know Matthias Maurer at our SpaceStudio Weltraum-Atelier in Nohfelden, Germany which is located near to Matthias‘ hometown. Additional funfact: I produced the song for his ISS mission, "Cosmic Kiss”.

For the local press in Germany, I first published an initial photo highlighting where Matthias Maurer appeared on the ISS. Due to my time constraints, I released this version right away on the Internet, which then went viral, while I continued to work on the final image version with both highlighted astronauts.

Already two days after the spacewalk happened, Philip Smith contacted me. He is a world well-known photographer of all things ISS and has been published in many forms of media. Philip Smith with his ISS obsession, noticed on my picture that NASA astronaut Raja Chari is also detectable - on the robot arm “Canadarm2” - and he created a wonderful combination picture shown here with an insert from the NASA livestream. Maybe I'm the first person to image two spacewalkers on the ISS at the same time :)

Exactly the Florida I longed to see...this place is extremely rich with it's wildlife. A casual hike in the stateparks lead to beautiful wildlife encounters.

Funfact .. The male Anhinga's forehead transforms into that beautiful blue color during it's breeding season and I was lucky to capture that in it's peak beauty.

funfact: we all get a little bit older....

But as I am a not the best practiced builder, there can be tough sections here and there.

funfacts:

3985 Parts

57x 42 Studs

2.450kg

If you own my moc from 2019 you already have about 60-70% of pieces.

You' ll also get a discount for the new instructions! pm me

Stud.io file on request

also I can share different part lists for the model without interior

or inner structure only if you want to try to build it with your own covering.

As the Bastø Ferry sails away from Moss, the city stretches along the coastline, embraced by the dramatic evening sky. The rippling waters of the Oslofjord reflect the soft hues of the setting sun, while the marina and modern waterfront developments highlight the town’s blend of history and progress.

Once an industrial stronghold, Moss is now a thriving cultural and residential hub, known for its artistic spirit, maritime heritage, and scenic surroundings. Across the fjord lies Horten, the ferry’s destination, continuing a journey that has connected the east and west shores for generations.

Some funfacts:

🔹 The Paper Town – Moss was once home to one of Norway’s largest paper mills, shaping the city's industrial identity for centuries.

🔹 The Moss Convention – In 1814, an important peace agreement was signed here, securing Norway’s union with Sweden after a brief war.

🔹 Moss as an Art Destination – Today, Moss embraces its creative side, hosting Galleri F15 and the Momentum biennale, one of the leading contemporary art exhibitions in Scandinavia.

🔹 Island Getaways – Just offshore lies Jeløya, an idyllic island known for its lush nature, hiking trails, and cultural heritage.

🔹 Fjord Connection – The Bastø Ferry is Norway’s busiest inland ferry route, linking Moss and Horten across the Oslofjord with over 3.8 million passengers annually.
