In the final couple of years of operation, before being acquired along with the Patton's business by Western, Cunninghams Ex Ribble Burlingham bodied Leyland Titan PD3 KCK 930 is seen in Paisley awaiting trade. The two lines of thought on the subject of front engined double deckers are visible in this shot, the traditional Leyland... though with more modern fully fronted body style, and the Guy Wulfrunianesque Volvo Ailsa with it's small turbocharged engine on the front platform.
Most of the population of Wolverhampton seems to have come out to witness the aftermath of what looks all-in-all to be a fairly minor, if somewhat inexplicable, collision. Ironic that from 1961 Guy Motors was owned by Jaguar Cars Ltd until it all sank into the morass of British Leyland. I don't know who to feel most sorry for - the passengers still on board who won't be getting to Willenhall any time soon; the hapless bus driver who in the course of some avoiding action has nearly ended up on the pavement; or the owner of the Austin Cambridge whose sills and front wings are rotting away in the manner typical of mass-produced cars of the period.
In addition to the vehicles St James Square has also disappeared, a victim of urban redevelopment.
