I took a day off to go for a road trip in the Swiss Alps and nearby Südtirol in Italy. I drove over the Passo dello Stelvio (Stelvio Pass) from the South Tyrol side. A very windy road with countless switchbacks leads up to the mountain pass, located in northern Italy bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. I went to the Tibet Hütte for a coffee break, naturally wearing a mask. This fisheye shot through the window of the Tibet Hütte depicts the scale of the mountain pass.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Die "Mauer" zwischen Ost und West war, wie die meisten aus den Geschichtsbüchern oder eigenen Erinnerungen wissen, nicht nur eine Mauer im eigentlichen Sinne, sie war ein komplexes System über Übertritte effizient zu verhindern. Die Grenze begann eigentlich bereits ein paar Kilometer weit auf DDR-Gebiet mit Einschränkungen für die Bevölkerung, dann ein Zaun, dann ein Kolonnenweg, dann ein Kontrollstreifen, zeitweise ein Minenstreifen bzw. Selbstschussanlagen, Hundelaufleinen und zum Schluss noch ein Zaun. Danach war aber immer noch kein Westen. Vielfach waren es noch ein paar Meter DDR-Territorium und dieser Umstand wurde am 29.3.1982 Heinz-Josef Große zum Schicksal. Ihm gelang es damals tatsächlich zwar sämtliche Sperranlagen zu überwinden, da sich die Grenze jedoch am oberen Ende der auf dem Bild rechts erkennbaren grünen Wiese befand, wurde er auf dem Weg dort hinauf zu einer kleinen hessischen Landstraße von Grenztruppen der DDR erschossen.
1989/90 wurden die Überreste zumeist bis zur Unkenntlichkeit entfernt, mancherorts jedoch, wie hier am hessisch-thüringischen Schifflersgrund, ließ man ein paar hundert Meter langes Stück stehen. Zur Erinnerung und zur Mahnung.

while others were picking olives from a tree, i got a chance to try out (back then) new camera, and old (but astonishing) macro lens.
Hastig geknipste Aufnahmen werden oft mit einem gehörigen Mehraufwand am Computer quittiert - meist mit mäßigem Erfolg. Bei diesem Bild habe ich geduldig gewartet, bis das frühmorgendliche Sonnenlicht langsam bis zur Blüte gewandert ist. Bearbeitungszeit am Computer: etwa 10 Sekunden (bisschen nachgeschärft). Das Blümlein hat mich daran erinnert, was mir am Fotografieren derart Spass macht. Nicht das Basteln am Computer (obwohl das zweifellos auch eine Möglichkeit darstellt, kreativ zu sein), sondern das Einfangen von Stimmungen und das Gestalten von Bildern, die etwas aussagen. Schön war's.

On the way back from Canada we met Swiss friends again after a long time at the Snoqualmie Falls, located east of Seattle, Washington. This 268-foot (82 m) waterfall is quite impressive. We walked down all the way to the foot of the waterfall, good exercise on the way up.
I processed a realistic and a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
