I doubt I need to explain the background, ~100 km away. That's Fujiyama (Mount Fuji), the tallest and most iconic peak in japan, rising in a remarkably symmetrical cone to 3,776 m asl. The dormant volcano stands alone, giving it the 35th greatest prominence worldwide, and the 28th greatest isolation (distance to a point of equal altitude). Its status as a World Heritage Site, as a "sacred place and source of artistic inspiration", gives some indication of the mountain's significance in Japanese culture; internationally, it is an instantly-recognised symbol of the country.
The (moving) viewpoint is the Hokuriku Shinkansen, just leaving Ōmiya station, ~30 km north of central Tōkyō, on its way to Nagano.
Saitama, a sprawling city of 1.2 million people, is technically distinct from Tōkyō but more practically it's a contiguous 'suburb' of the capital.

'On the second day in Pripyat, I had the chance to witness a sunrise from the top of Pripyat’s highest building, the Fujiyama. Sun rays ran in the middle of the dead city, bringing the whole place back to life for a few short seconds.' - David de Rueda on his shot 'Sun Dust' for the Abandoned Places project.
