This species rarely visits my backyard in the Texas Hill Country. The Inca Dove had a significant impact on the native American tribes and on the westward bound settlers, traders, trappers, explorers, and other human critters who ventured across the arid expanse of the southwestern frontiers. You could bet your life that the flight of an Inca Dove would lead you directly to the nearest water hole!

Well after quite a few years in this domicile, we finally started making it a home. We were trying to start a bit earlier, but some unknown worldwide disruption kind of threw everything off. Anyway, this is the playroom, which used to house a fairly impressive LEGO town. After the arrival of 10497 Galaxy Explorer, though, the children decided we should have a Space Base.
Single tear of joy.
So, now that the painters are finished and we’ve got everything back together, we’re going to start with their City Space sets from the last couple of years, and build up organically from there. The Galaxy Explorer will obviously be front and center. But it’s been requested that I help them build new versions of the old Classic Space sets.
We’ve been watching JANGBRiCKS’s videos of them, and Caleb especially is wondering, “Why’d this ever go away?!? These are amazing!” He’s 9, LEGO. Nine years old. What appeals to him is the simplicity and the fact you have to use your imagination. That brand new Galaxy Explorer has gotten more play time than the latest Marvel or even Ninjago sets.
Maybe my family is a one-off. Or maybe conflict has grown tiring, what with all the real conflict in the world. I don’t know.
But we’re going to try our best to explore the heck out of this barren moon, with no bad guys to speak of except the Deadly Space Air.
