Chris Cornell
Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell played his first show at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall in support of fifth solo album Higher Truth, the tour similar in style to his 2011 Songbook tour, with Cornell playing stripped-back renditions of a selection of songs from his Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple Of The Dog and solo material mixed with covers on a range of acoustic guitars, this time accompanied by Bryan Gibson on cello, keyboards and mandolin ...

Not a new photo, but I found it as I was going through the archives to find shots for a new exhibition (my 5th this year - and not the last, I hope - yeah, I know, it's a very extraordinary year in this respect, but I'm not complaining). :)
Playing host to the rescheduled Foo Fighters concert at Wembley (that was cancelled after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg falling off stage at a show in Gothenburg, Sweden), the National Bowl in Milton Keynes came alive on Sunday, September 6, 2015 with the sound of 65,000 screaming fans. Following sets from rock duo Royal Blood and the eclectic propo-punk icon Iggy Pop, the Foos knew they had to deliver. From the moment the curtain sucked into a black hole vortex to the end of the show, it was obvious it was going to be one hell of a night to remember. Debra, Karl and I had arrived relatively early for the show and, being among the first to enter the MK Bowl, were offered "Inner Pit" passes. Issued on a first-come-first-serve basis, these gave fenced-off access to the stage and were an excellent surprise. We had a great view of the day's action and I was well positioned for photographs. "All My Life" opened the two and a half hour set, with Grohl spending the entire show seated on a most gloriously over-the-top throne, designed by Grohl himself and adorned by guitar necks. It transported the front-man up and down the runway, and was in itself a crowd pleaser! I have wanted to see the Foo Fighters for about two decades - and desperate to do so since "Wasting Light"- and they did not disappoint. A shredding version of "White Limo" alone justified the ticket price, and the rest was a wonderful (and sometimes nostalgic) tour through their back-catalogue. All in all, it was a triumphant, heart-warming singalong set that showed why, for so many, the Foo Fighters have been the soundtrack to the last two decades. Here's the Foo Fighters' set list for the Milton Keynes "Broken Leg" concert.
If I was desperate to see the Foo Fighters, I was absolutely aching to see 69 year old rock legend, Iggy Pop. I narrowly missed one of his gigs in Amsterdam at the end of 1978 and, after this initial disappointment, Iggy stayed on my Bucket List through the late-80's in London, the 90's in Prague and the naughties in the UK. When he was in town, I was always travelling, had other commitments or just had bad luck (i.e. the cancellation of the Foo's concert at Wembley in June where Iggy was on the supporting bill). Well, I finally got to see James Newell Osterberg, Jr. in full, topless, action in Milton Keynes on a fine evening in September 2015! Iggy brought his old school punk snarl to the party, prompting mass singalongs to classic tunes, some of which he penned with his old mate David Bowie in Berlin in the 70's. If I'm still as active as Iggy when I'm almost 70, I'll be more than happy! He made fine use of the runway before him, skipping, kicking, twisting and turning as only Iggy can. He took a breather every now and then, but Iggy still has more energy than any new breed act you care to mention. Fucking hell - he's the man that wrote "Lust for Life"! The snot-noses in the audience didn't know what hit them :-) FYI, here's the Iggy Pop's set list for the night.
A wonderful, sunny day and balmy evening with my family, and a fine way to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of my first date with my future-wife on September 7, 1983.

NoGoD has been active in the Japanese music scene (and the European/international as well) for nearly 10 years.
Formed by frontman Dancho in 2005, and have performed with the same members since 2006. They have been active internationally in Asia since 2010, and are now ready to conquer Europe in the same way: through their music.
Their core message that “if a person believes in one core element, said element can become their own personal God. The band is striving to become just that.” NoGoD wants to be your God (in the sense of a core element).
A few other things the band is famous for are guitarist Kyrie’s special 7 string guitar technique, something a lot of guitarists strive to aspire to themselves.
And vocalist Dancho’s comical interaction with the audience when on stage, adding to the fun of the performance as well as displaying their love for lives and music.
Theological and philosophical principles behind the band aside they are of course most famous for their shironuri make-up, visual kei, looks and of course their music itself!
Whilst the band is known for it’s heavy (metal) style sounds, that remain quite catchy to the listener’s ear.
To achieve their own particular style they weaved in influences from J-rock, J-pop and of course the genre they are best known for: metal.
What is certain is that this band offers musical attractions to fans of many different genres, not just the visual kei or metal ones. They’re a great band that genuinely wants to build a solid fan base on the European market with their music and excellent instrumental technique.
So if you are visiting Japan Expo on Saturday the 5th or Sunday the 6th of July, make sure to check out NoGoD on their stage!
The times are not out yet, but keep your eye on the program so you don’t miss them!

Make sure to follow them on twitter if you’re on that social medium, because the band is sure to announce more about their gigs in Europe. And who knows, maybe you’ll get the chance to speak to them this way before the event!

The original Wasted Youth, one of the best bands to come out of post punk East London. Formed in the summer of 1979 at the Bridge House in Canning Town. The band rubbed shoulders with the likes of The Psychedelic Furs and The Only Ones, occupying the indie album charts before splitting up in December 1982 on the verge of signing to a major record label.
Alternative music website Louderthanwar.com described them as “arguably the greatest ‘lost’ London band of the post-punk years… heavily influenced by the dark narcotic glamour of the Velvets, the Doors and Transformer-era Lou Reed.”
After a gap of 40 years the band’s 3 surviving original members reformed for their now legendary gig at the Lexington, Islington in February 2022. Tickets sold out within hours of going on sale.
While the revival success may have been bouyed up by a wave of nostalgia from their original fans, the band are keen to move on.
To quote their social media feed the band say "Whilst paying respect to and having great love for the ‘old’ Wasted Youth, the ‘new’ Wasted Youth are not a nostalgia act, and are eager to prove that they have something new to offer, both visually and sonically."
Ken Scott was and probably remains the major creative force behind the band and since the original line up split has seen his life and career follow a remarkable trajectory. You can hear Ken tell his own story here. foxyradio.com/foxy-radio-112-foxy-radio-on-deal-radio-fea...
As a Bridge House regular I saw Wasted Youth many times there and at other venues across London. I got to know Ken briefly as our paths crossed after the band split.
Having missed out on the opportunity to see the reformed band at the Lexington, and the Royal Albert Hall in support of the Furs, I finally managed to catch them at “Powerhaus” Camden (aka Dingwalls). I’ve been pestering Ken ever since to let me take his portrait. He finally caved in and we met last Friday for a shoot after I reminded him that he still owed me a favour for helping him decorate his flat in Plaistow circa 1984!

The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976. The band has experienced several line-up changes, with frontman, vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member. The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys (1979); this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and New Wave movements that had sprung up in the wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom. During the early 1980s, the band's increasingly dark and tormented music helped form the gothic rock genre.
After the release of Pornography (1982), the band's future was uncertain and Smith was keen to move past the gloomy reputation his band had acquired. With the 1982 single "Let's Go to Bed" Smith began to inject more of a pop sensibility into the band's music. The Cure's popularity increased as the decade wore on, especially in the United States where the songs "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong" and "Friday I'm in Love" entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. By the start of the 1990s, The Cure were one of the most popular alternative rock bands in the world. The band is estimated to have sold 27 million albums as of 2004.[1] The Cure have released thirteen studio albums and over thirty singles during the course of their career.

Biography
Dennis Edwards
Dennis Edwards Jr. (February 3, 1943 – February 1, 2018) was an American soul and R&B singer who was best known
as the frontman in The Temptations, on Motown Records. Edwards joined the Temptations in 1968, replacing David
Ruffin and sang with the group from 1968 to 1976, 1980 to 1984 and 1987 to 1989. In the mid-1980s, he attempted
a solo career, scoring a hit in 1984 with "Don't Look Any Further" (featuring Siedah Garrett). Until his death,
Edwards was the lead singer of The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, a Temptations splinter group.
Biography
Early years and career
Edwards was born in Fairfield, Alabama,[1] about eight miles from Birmingham, to Reverend Dennis Edwards Sr. He
began singing as a toddler, just two years old, in his father's church. The Edwards family moved to Detroit,
Michigan when Edwards was about ten years old, and Edwards would continue to sing in the church pastored by his
father, eventually becoming choir director.[2]
As a teenager, Edwards joined a gospel vocal group called The Mighty Clouds of Joy, and studied music at the
Detroit Conservatory of Music.[2] He was not allowed to sing or listen to secular music at home, and his mother
disapproved when he began pursuing a career singing rhythm and blues music.[2] In 1961 he organized his own
soul/jazz group, Dennis Edwards and the Fireballs.[3] In 1961,[4] Edwards recorded a single for the obscure
Detroit label, International Soulville Records, "I Didn't Have to (But I Did)" b/w "Johnnie on the Spot".[3]
Following time served in the US military, in 1966 Edwards auditioned for Detroit's Motown Records, where he was
signed but placed on retainer. Later that year, he was assigned to join The Contours after their lead singer,
Billy Gordon, fell ill.[2] In 1967, the Contours were the opening act for several Temptations concerts, and
Temptations members Eddie Kendricks and Otis Williams – who were considering replacing their own lead singer,
David Ruffin (who was a personal friend of Edwards[5]), took notice of Edwards and made his acquaintance.[2]
1967–1984: The Temptations years
Later in 1967, Edwards quit the Contours and was placed back on retainer.[2] He attempted to get a release from
his contract, as Holland–Dozier–Holland had promised to sign him to their new Invictus Records, but was drafted
in late June 1968 to join the Temptations, who had just fired Ruffin from the act.[2][6] Ruffin had tipped
Edwards off that he was being drafted as his replacement, which eased Edwards's conscience in replacing him.
[2][6][7]
The Temptations officially introduced Edwards on July 9, 1968 on stage in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. However,
Ruffin, who was attempting to make his way back into the group, crashed the stage during Edwards's lead vocal
on "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" to significant applause.[6] He continued similar stunts for about a month until,
according to Edwards, the group decided to lay-off Edwards — with the promise of a solo deal from Motown — and
rehire Ruffin.[6] When Ruffin failed to show for his return engagement in Gaithersburg, Maryland the next
night, Edwards was permanently kept on and the Temptations refused to entertain rehiring Ruffin any further.[6]
Edwards was the first singer to join the Temptations after their "Classic 5" period. With his rougher gospel-
hewn vocals, Edwards led the group through its psychedelic, funk, and disco periods, singing on hits such as
"Cloud Nine" (1968), "I Can't Get Next to You" (1969), "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)"
(1970), "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" (1972), and "Shakey Ground" (1975), among others. Two of these songs, "Cloud
Nine" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone", won Grammy Awards.[3] During this time, Edwards was engaged to Yvonne
"Frankie" Gearing, the lead singer of Quiet Elegance, who toured with The Temptations as their backing group.
Edwards remained in the Temptations until being fired by Otis Williams in 1977 just before the group's
departure from Motown to Atlantic Records. After a failed attempt at a Motown solo career, Edwards rejoined the
Temptations in 1980, when they returned to Motown.[3] In 1982, Edwards got the chance to sing with Ruffin and
Eddie Kendricks as part of the Reunion album and tour. Edwards began missing shows and rehearsals, and was
replaced in 1984 by Ali-Ollie Woodson.[citation needed] In 1989, Edwards was inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame as a member of The Temptations.[8] Edwards was also inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame with
The Temptations in 2013.
1984–1990: Solo career
Motown re-launched Edwards's solo career, in 1984 with the hit single "Don't Look Any Further," a duet with
Siedah Garrett.[3] The album of the same name reached No. 2 on the R&B charts and included the radio singles
"(You're My) Aphrodisiac" and "Just Like You."[9] When problems arose between Woodson and the Temptations in
1987, Edwards was brought back once again.
He and the group recorded the album entitled “Together Again”, featuring the hit single “I Wonder Who She’s
Seeing Now”.
Edwards was again replaced by Woodson in 1989 after leaving the group for a third and final time.
1990–1994: Ruffin, Kendricks, and Edwards
Edwards toured and recorded with fellow ex- David Ruffin during the late 1980s as "Ruffin/Kendricks/Edwards,
former leads of The Temptations", although nothing was released.[3] The 1998 Street Gold DVD Original Leads of
the Temptations documents this historic period.[10] After the deaths of Ruffin (1991) and Kendricks (1992),
Edwards was forced to wrap up the project alone. In 1990, Dennis teamed up with Kendricks to release a
dance/club track for A&B Records entitled "Get It While It's Hot". The track was recorded at Fredrick Knight's
recording studio in the duo's old home town of Birmingham, Alabama; it was produced and engineered by house
music pioneer Alan Steward. The track created a lot of controversy, as it contained a short rap sequence which
did not sit very well with die-hard Temptations fans. Edwards's Don't Look Any Further: the Remix Album was
released in 1998, containing updated dance mixes and the original 1984 track.[citation needed]
The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards
During the 1990s, Edwards began touring under the name 'Dennis Edwards & the Temptations', prompting a legal
battle between himself and Otis Williams. It was decided that Edwards's group would be called The Temptations
Review featuring Dennis Edwards (this name remains extant). Edwards's group included Paul Williams Jr. (son of
original Temptations member Paul Williams), David Sea, Mike Patillo, and Chris Arnold.[citation needed] Edwards
was portrayed by Charles Ley in the 1998 biographical television mini-series The Temptations, though he was not
heavily focused upon, as the mini-series gave more attention to the Ruffin/Kendricks-era Temptations lineup.
[citation needed] The Temptations Review group was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame on October
4, 2015 in Detroit, Michigan, when Edwards was also given the Living Legend Award.[citation needed]
Personal life and death
Edwards had a relationship with singer Aretha Franklin, who stated he was the inspiration behind her 1972
R&B/Soul song Day Dreaming.[11] Edwards was briefly married to Ruth Pointer, whom he wed in Las Vegas in 1977.
[12] The couple had one daughter, Issa Pointer, who became a member of her mother's vocal group, The Pointer
Sisters. While in Detroit, Dennis and an unknown woman conceived his last daughter, Martika Edwards who still
lives in Detroit today and celebrates her fathers legacy. Edwards moved to Florissant, Missouri in the 1980s to
be closer to his mother.[13]
Edwards died in a Chicago hospital on February 1, 2018, two days before his 75th birthday. He had been battling
meningitis before his death.[14][15]

The iconic mural featuring Joy Division's enigmatic frontman, Ian Curtis, has been repainted by Akse on Manchester's Star and Garter pub. It was originally painted on another building in the Northern Quarter, but was overpainted. By public demand it has been restored, to raise awareness of issues in mental health and suicide prevention.
"Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable", said the Mexican poet and academic, Cesar A. Cruz.
The Northern Quarter, and Ancoats has some of Manchester's finest artworks on its walls and free to view. There is a great walk to be had around this area. I would not describe it as salubrious, but on a dry day, it's well worth the effort. There is a massive spectrum of watering holes to boot. At 70 years old, I feel slightly out of my depth there, but I must admit its an education.
Memorial services for iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was held at the Rainbow Bar And Grill in West Hollywood, California 1-9-2016.
Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24-2016), learned two days later, on December 26, that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28 at his home in Los Angeles.
MOTÖRHEADwas revered by both metal and punk fans, and Lemmy was considered an icon for his musical talent and his embodiment of the rock n’ roll lifestyle.
The Rainbow Bar And Grill on L.A.'s Sunset Strip was known as Lemmy's hangout, made it an obvious place for friends and family to say goodbye to the legend.
