Playing host to the rescheduled Foo Fighters concert at Wembley (that was cancelled after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg falling off stage at a show in Gothenburg, Sweden), the National Bowl in Milton Keynes came alive on Sunday, September 6, 2015 with the sound of 65,000 screaming fans. Following sets from rock duo Royal Blood and the eclectic propo-punk icon Iggy Pop, the Foos knew they had to deliver. From the moment the curtain sucked into a black hole vortex to the end of the show, it was obvious it was going to be one hell of a night to remember. Debra, Karl and I had arrived relatively early for the show and, being among the first to enter the MK Bowl, were offered "Inner Pit" passes. Issued on a first-come-first-serve basis, these gave fenced-off access to the stage and were an excellent surprise. We had a great view of the day's action and I was well positioned for photographs. "All My Life" opened the two and a half hour set, with Grohl spending the entire show seated on a most gloriously over-the-top throne, designed by Grohl himself and adorned by guitar necks. It transported the front-man up and down the runway, and was in itself a crowd pleaser! I have wanted to see the Foo Fighters for about two decades - and desperate to do so since "Wasting Light"- and they did not disappoint. A shredding version of "White Limo" alone justified the ticket price, and the rest was a wonderful (and sometimes nostalgic) tour through their back-catalogue. All in all, it was a triumphant, heart-warming singalong set that showed why, for so many, the Foo Fighters have been the soundtrack to the last two decades. Well, I finally got to see James Newell Osterberg, Jr. in full, topless, action in Milton Keynes on a fine evening in September 2015! Iggy brought his old school punk snarl to the party, prompting mass singalongs to classic tunes, some of which he penned with his old mate David Bowie in Berlin in the 70's. If I'm still as active as Iggy when I'm almost 70, I'll be more than happy! He made fine use of the runway before him, skipping, kicking, twisting and turning as only Iggy can. He took a breather every now and then, but Iggy still has more energy than any new breed act you care to mention. Fucking hell - he's the man that wrote "Lust for Life"! Sono tornati! Tobias Sammet, frontman di Edguy, è tornato in studio al lavoro su un nuovo capitolo discografico dei suoi Avantasia. Si tratta del successore di “The Mystery Of Time”. Il nuovo album di Avantasia si intitola “Ghostlights” uscito a gennaio del 2016. Poi, a Marzo 2016, Avantasia saranno in tour che partirà da Berlino il 4 marzo e la tappa italiana è prevista per il 22 marzo all’Alcatraz di Milano.
Ospite della serata Michael Kiske, cantante tedesco, famoso nell'ambiente heavy metal e power metal per essere stato il cantante degli Helloween dal 1987 al 1993. Nella seconda parte della carriera si è dedicato invece a sonorità distanti dall'heavy metal e più orientate all'AOR, pur continuando a collaborare con band del calibro di Gamma Ray, Avantasia, Edguy, Timo Tolkki.
Tobias Sammet ha dichiarato: “Ho passato molti mesi in studio, lavorando segretamente ed in maniera ossessiva su qualcosa che rappresentasse un vero capitolo nella carriera di Avantasia. Devo dire che Avantasia sono una fantastica valvola di sfogo per la mia creatività. Il nuovo materiale scritto dalla band è dinamico e decisamente differente ma il marchio Avantasia è presente. Sono orgoglioso di quanto fatto finora. E non vedo l’ora di tornare on the road e calcare i palchi europei. In passato è stato molto difficile organizzare un tour con Avantasia, visti gli impegni di ciascuno di noi nelle altre band. Ma adesso tutto ciò si sta concretizzando e siamo prontissimi! Dublin-based rock four piece U2 played the fifth of six shows at London’s O2 Arena as part of their massive Innocence + Experience world tour in support of their controversially released 13th studio album Songs of Innocence, which “appeared” for free in some half billion iTunes users’ libraries on September 9th 2014.
Always trying to take their live show above and beyond, the Innocence + Experience tour didn’t disappoint. Featuring a main stage and experience ‘E’ stage at opposite ends of the arena floor linked by a wide runway with a massive overhanging screen cage, the band made full use of the arena moving between the main and ‘E’ stages by way of playing inside the screen cage which was lowered to cover the band for 2014 single Invisible and Achtung Baby hit Even Better Than the Real Thing.
Appearing on stage at 8:30pm, the foursome of singer Bono, guitarist The Edge, bass player Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. kicked off their set with Songs of Innocence opener The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) before going all the way back to the start of their career with Out of Control from 1980 debut album Boy.
Introducing new album tracks as taking the band back home to Cedarwood Road where Bono grew up, the frontman analogised London and Dublin: “You forget this is a city on the river, and we also come from a city on a river. So, we would like to take you, for the next few songs, from the Thames to the River Liffey.”
“The River Liffy splits our city of Dublin into North and South” the 55-year-old continued, “and we are from the North Side.” Referring to drummer Larry Mullen Jr., “Larry will remind you that he's the only one who stayed officially on the North Side, he's still there.”
Pointing out friend and Cedarwood Road neighbour Peter Rowan, Bono continued “I remember our street, Peter Rowan who's taking the photographs now is the boy on the cover of our first album 'Boy', he's here tonight taking photos, from 5 Cedarwood Road.”
Explaining the story behind Iris (Hold Me Close), he continued opining about his childhood, his mother Iris and what he has found with U2: “I remember the box room in 10 Cedarwood Road, it felt like a whole universe. And I remember the day that universe turned cold, that was the day my mother Iris died. But when she left me, she left me an artist and, the hole in my heart I’ve been filling with these three incredible men I have the privilege of sharing the stage with. This is for my beautiful mother Iris and for all mothers who have had to suffer precocious children.”
Both U2 as a group and Bono’s own political and humanitarian views have often been a focus over the decades and tonight served as somewhat of a showcase for the various messages they have been associated with. Starting with an animated display of a car bomb exploding on the large screen with the voice of a newscaster from times of Irish civil unrest playing over the PA system following the band’s overtly political single Sunday Bloody Sunday, from their 1983 album War, the messages continued with references to Bono’s (PRODUCT) RED campaign to create the first world generation without Aids, through messages about the very current plight of Syrian refugees. And while these are each extremely important messages in their own right, they began to become lost amongst each other and it became almost darkly comedic to guess which political or humanitarian cause would be presented up next.
Much of the second half of the set was played on the smaller “E” stage at the far end of the arena, a smaller drum kit being set up for Mullen Jr. as the band tore through hits Mysterious Ways, Pride (In the Name of Love) and With or Without You.
Ahead of 2001 hit single Elevation, Bono pulled up an audience member called Cassie to dance with him on stage before passing her a mobile phone to film the band and live-stream that segment of the show via the mobile app Meerkat.
The night was closed out with an encore featuring 2005’s City Of Blinding Lights, introduced with a pre-recorded speech by Stephen Hawking, Beautiful Day from 10th studio album All That You Can't Leave Behind and hit single One, which had Bono giving up vocal duties to the crowd for much of the song.
No special guests tonight, other shows in London have been graced with the presence of both former Oasis chief Noel Gallagher and "punk poet laureate" Patti Smith.
Love them, hate them or feel this band formed in 1976 are irrelevant nearly 40 years later in 2015, U2 have an incredible catalogue of music that stretches from their post-punk roots, through a kind of re-imagining to fold industrial rock and electronic dance music into their sound with 1991’s critically acclaimed Achtung Baby to their latest release which includes stand out anthems such as Raised by Wolves. And with six sold-out London shows in addition to the other 70 arena shows worldwide making up their Innocence + Experience world tour, they show that they are not only still relevant but remain one of the biggest live audience draws in rock music today.
U2 play their final London show at The O2 Arena in East London tonight (November 3rd) before closing out their run of 76 arena shows with two shows in Belfast followed by four in their home town of Dublin later this month.

Ospite della serata Michael Kiske, cantante tedesco, famoso nell'ambiente heavy metal e power metal per essere stato il cantante degli Helloween dal 1987 al 1993. Nella seconda parte della carriera si è dedicato invece a sonorità distanti dall'heavy metal e più orientate all'AOR, pur continuando a collaborare con band del calibro di Gamma Ray, Avantasia, Edguy, Timo Tolkki.
Tobias Sammet ha dichiarato: “Ho passato molti mesi in studio, lavorando segretamente ed in maniera ossessiva su qualcosa che rappresentasse un vero capitolo nella carriera di Avantasia. Devo dire che Avantasia sono una fantastica valvola di sfogo per la mia creatività. Il nuovo materiale scritto dalla band è dinamico e decisamente differente ma il marchio Avantasia è presente. Sono orgoglioso di quanto fatto finora. E non vedo l’ora di tornare on the road e calcare i palchi europei. In passato è stato molto difficile organizzare un tour con Avantasia, visti gli impegni di ciascuno di noi nelle altre band. Ma adesso tutto ciò si sta concretizzando e siamo prontissimi! Si tratterà di un grande show, della durata di tre ore abbondanti, che porterà i fan nel mondo di Avantasia. My first passion in music was Genesis. It started in '91/'92 with their album "We can't dance". But already before that time I loved the stuff they and their frontman Phil Collins did. In '89 for example I was totally crazy about "I wish it would rain down" (with Eric Clapton on the guitar - check that video, the intro is very funny!) - I remember for example how I went in my parent's car to listen to it on tape a couple of times and sang to it loudly. A little later I bought my first album on cassette from Phil: "Hello, I must be going". And finally after my older brother gave me "We can't dance" as a Christmas-present, I started to become a real fan. Then I got interested in all the members of Genesis:
1. Phil Collins - my first favorite album on CD was "Both Sides", which Phil completely recorded by himself, playing all the instruments (later btw, I found great interest in other mulit-instrumentalist geniuses, like for example: Meshell NdegeOcello, Lenny Kravitz, Prince and last but not least of course Stevie Wonder)
- I also got interested in other projects of him, as producer, musician, singer...
2. Mike Rutherford - with his band Mike & the Mechanics
3. Tony Banks - he later, in 2004 could gain great respect and success as a classical music composer with his recording "Seven", a Suite for Orchestra
4. Peter Gabriel - I really discovered his music a bit later even if he's been very popular...
5. Steve Hackett - My younger brother much later should become a fan of him - who's been doing progressive Rock (like Genesis in the 70s) & also classical music with the classical guitar, both successfully. But that was a little after my brother found big interest in Genesis' phase of the 70s and their later stuff.
My favorite of all Genesis recordings has been "Duke" (1981) ever since. It also should be the one I listened to the most. While it was received very differently from critics, I share that preference with for example Tony Banks (the keyboarder). I love the suite-like and overall feel and the concept of the album - later I would find further interest in recordings with a concept that relates tracks to the other and even later would record my own piece after that kind of concept. "Duke" marked Genesis' transformation from a progressive Rock-band to Pop Superstars.
My first CD ever was the single to "Jesus he knows me" (hilarious video too!:p).

Playing host to the rescheduled Foo Fighters concert at Wembley (that was cancelled after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg falling off stage at a show in Gothenburg, Sweden), the National Bowl in Milton Keynes came alive on Sunday, September 6, 2015 with the sound of 65,000 screaming fans. Following sets from rock duo Royal Blood and the eclectic propo-punk icon Iggy Pop, the Foos knew they had to deliver. From the moment the curtain sucked into a black hole vortex to the end of the show, it was obvious it was going to be one hell of a night to remember. Debra, Karl and I had arrived relatively early for the show and, being among the first to enter the MK Bowl, were offered "Inner Pit" passes. Issued on a first-come-first-serve basis, these gave fenced-off access to the stage and were an excellent surprise. We had a great view of the day's action and I was well positioned for photographs. "All My Life" opened the two and a half hour set, with Grohl spending the entire show seated on a most gloriously over-the-top throne, designed by Grohl himself and adorned by guitar necks. It transported the front-man up and down the runway, and was in itself a crowd pleaser! I have wanted to see the Foo Fighters for about two decades - and desperate to do so since "Wasting Light"- and they did not disappoint. A shredding version of "White Limo" alone justified the ticket price, and the rest was a wonderful (and sometimes nostalgic) tour through their back-catalogue. All in all, it was a triumphant, heart-warming singalong set that showed why, for so many, the Foo Fighters have been the soundtrack to the last two decades. If I was desperate to see the Foo Fighters, I was absolutely aching to see 69 year old rock legend, Iggy Pop. I narrowly missed one of his gigs in Amsterdam at the end of 1978 and, after this initial disappointment, Iggy stayed on my Bucket List through the late-80's in London, the 90's in Prague and the naughties in the UK. When he was in town, I was always travelling, had other commitments or just had bad luck (i.e. the cancellation of the Foo's concert at Wembley in June where Iggy was on the supporting bill). Well, I finally got to see James Newell Osterberg, Jr. in full, topless, action in Milton Keynes on a fine evening in September 2015! Iggy brought his old school punk snarl to the party, prompting mass singalongs to classic tunes, some of which he penned with his old mate David Bowie in Berlin in the 70's. If I'm still as active as Iggy when I'm almost 70, I'll be more than happy! He made fine use of the runway before him, skipping, kicking, twisting and turning as only Iggy can. He took a breather every now and then, but Iggy still has more energy than any new breed act you care to mention. Fucking hell - he's the man that wrote "Lust for Life"! The snot-noses in the audience didn't know what hit them :-) FYI, here's the Iggy Pop's set list for the night.
A wonderful, sunny day and balmy evening with my family, and a fine way to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of my first date with my future-wife on September 7, 1983.

Canadian music icons, The Hip, with their very animated frontman, Gordon Downie, made a tour stop at London’s Budweiser Gardens as part of their Fully and Completely 2015 North American tour. The tour commemorates their 1992 re-issue release of their million plus selling Fully Completely album. With hit tracks such as “At The Hundredth Meridian”, “Fifty Mission Cap” “Fully Completely” and “Locked In The Trunk Of A Car”, Fully Completely is an essential classic rock must have for your music collection. The re-issue includes two new tracks from the original recording sessions as well as a second disc featuring a 1992 concert at the also iconic Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. The Hip are also members of the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame and winners of numerous music awards including 14 Junos with 9 of their 12 studio albums and 2 live albums reaching #1 in Canada. Brett is front man for the band Cold Ethyl. They dropped in to "The Best Kept Secret in Town" for a quick shoot in a window cove. It was a lot of fun working in such a tight space but the shots we got pack some punch.

Einstürzende Neubauten-frontman and former guitar player of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Blixa Bargeld (DE) and Italian composer Teho Teardo present their beautiful work together with a local string quartet. Their collaboration started in 2013 with their stunning record ‘Still Smiling’. This record consists of 12 ‘flexible’ songs, of which the arrangements form both a beautiful contrast as wel as a unity between acoustic string instruments and electronics. ‘The duo’s work comprises two albums; ‘Still Smiling’ in 2013 and ‘Spring’ in 2014.

American singer-songwriter and musician Perry Farrell (1959) is best known as the frontman for the alternative rock band Jane's Addiction. Farrell created the touring festival Lollapalooza as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction in 1991; it has since evolved into an annual destination festival, which Farrell continues to produce Lollapalooza with partners.
Jane's Addiction made its name in mid-1980s LA by building up a fan base with high-energy shows in small LA rock clubs. Jane's Addiction, prior to their first break-up, released three albums 'Jane's Addiction' (1987), 'Nothing's Shocking' (1988) and 'Ritual de lo Habitual' (1990). A B-sides album from the Ritual sessions, titled 'Live and Rare' was released in Japan. Late in 1991, Jane's Addiction broke up due to internal tensions over differing ideologies mostly centering on drug use, notably Farrell's severe addiction to heroin. In 1993 Farrell and his ex-girlfriend Casey Niccoli made a film called Gift (Perry Farrell, Casey Niccoli, 1993) that featured Jane's Addiction and also explored their own relationship. It was released by Warner Bros. In 1997, Jane's Addiction reformed for a brief reunion tour with Flea replacing Avery on bass. The Relapse Tour was supported with the release of 'Kettle Whistle', a rarities album featuring four new songs.
Perry Farrell has been credited with changing the fortunes of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Following the festival's disastrous first year in 1999, the event was not held in 2000. In 2001, a decision was made to organise the festival again, but just a few months before the festival was set to occur, there was still no headlining group. Farrell, who was friends with the festival's organisers, decided to reunite Jane's Addiction for the 2001 event, which helped draw large crowds and allowed the festival to yield a profit. This began a Coachella tradition of reuniting at least one major artist each year. Farrell again toured with Jane's Addiction in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, Jane's Addiction released an album, 'Strays'. It quickly became one of their best selling records and was certified gold in the USA and silver in UK. They toured extensively in North America and Europe, brought back Lollapalooza for the first time since 1997, as well as performing at the Big Day Out festivals in Australia and New Zealand. Internal struggles saw the band split up again in early 2004. A 'Best of' release following the breakup of this incarnation of the band was released in 2006, titled 'Up from the Catacombs'. The four original members of Jane's Addiction played their first show together in 17 years at the first United States edition of the NME Awards in 2008, and played two small shows in Los Angeles during Winter 2008. The reunited Jane's Addiction re-debuted at SXSW in 2009 and kicked off a summer tour with Nine Inch Nails. Eric Avery again left the band in late 2009, leaving Farrell, Navarro and Perkins as the remaining members of Jane's Addiction. The band with Dave Sitek on bass released 'The Great Escape Artist' in 2011 and have continued to tour.

A shredding version of "White Limo" alone justified the ticket price, and the rest was a wonderful (and sometimes nostalgic) tour through their back-catalogue. All in all, it was a triumphant, heart-warming singalong set that showed why, for so many, the Foo Fighters have been the soundtrack to the last two decades. If I was desperate to see the Foo Fighters, I was absolutely aching to see 69 year old rock legend, Iggy Pop. I narrowly missed one of his gigs in Amsterdam at the end of 1978 and, after this initial disappointment, Iggy stayed on my Bucket List through the late-80's in London, the 90's in Prague and the naughties in the UK. When he was in town, I was always travelling, had other commitments or just had bad luck (i.e. the cancellation of the Foo's concert at Wembley in June where Iggy was on the supporting bill). Well, I finally got to see James Newell Osterberg, Jr. in full, topless, action in Milton Keynes on a fine evening in September 2015! Iggy brought his old school punk snarl to the party, prompting mass singalongs to classic tunes, some of which he penned with his old mate David Bowie in Berlin in the 70's. If I'm still as active as Iggy when I'm almost 70, I'll be more than happy! He made fine use of the runway before him, skipping, kicking, twisting and turning as only Iggy can. He took a breather every now and then, but Iggy still has more energy than any new breed act you care to mention. Fucking hell - he's the man that wrote "Lust for Life"! Playing host to the rescheduled Foo Fighters concert at Wembley (that was cancelled after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg falling off stage at a show in Gothenburg, Sweden), the National Bowl in Milton Keynes came alive on Sunday, September 6, 2015 with the sound of 65,000 screaming fans. Following sets from rock duo Royal Blood and the eclectic propo-punk icon Iggy Pop, the Foos knew they had to deliver. From the moment the curtain sucked into a black hole vortex to the end of the show, it was obvious it was going to be one hell of a night to remember. Debra, Karl and I had arrived relatively early for the show and, being among the first to enter the MK Bowl, were offered "Inner Pit" passes. Issued on a first-come-first-serve basis, these gave fenced-off access to the stage and were an excellent surprise. We had a great view of the day's action and I was well positioned for photographs. "All My Life" opened the two and a half hour set, with Grohl spending the entire show seated on a most gloriously over-the-top throne, designed by Grohl himself and adorned by guitar necks. It transported the front-man up and down the runway, and was in itself a crowd pleaser! I have wanted to see the Foo Fighters for about two decades - and desperate to do so since "Wasting Light"- and they did not disappoint.
