Intention/Technical: My goal was to have the light hit the middle of the ashtray and to create a shadow behind it.
Reference to the reading: "When the sun comes from behind you, it hits your subject straight on, and the light bounces back and brings with it the picture of a tree in a field. The sun is not in the scene, so it’s easier to meter and expose."(Duchemin Lesson 27)
Outcome: Wish I moved more to the front, but didn't want to block the sunlight, but I do really like this photo. I think it's very visually appealing to look at
Edits: I slightly lowered the exposure, raised the contrast, raised the highlights, lowered the shadows, and adjusted the white and black tones. I also slightly raised the temp to create more yellowish tints in the photo. Lastly, I raised the clarity and dehaze, and I also erased some of the bigger rock pieces that were around it.
Take photographs of someone using frontlighting, backlighting, and sidelighting. You can use the sun or other lighting. Submit at least three photos.

This photo satisfies the front light requirement by positioning the sun in front of the snowman, thus giving it even illumination on its body and
face. In The Visual Toolbox, David Duchemin emphasizes careful use of light in order to expose a subject's personality, as is revealed from the details of the snowman. Michael Freeman, in The Photographer's Eye Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos, insists on objects in the frame being symmetrical, and in this case, the snowman is centered against a white snowy background. The frontal lighting method and simple composition show both the front-lighting demands of the project and the emphasis and clarity guidelines promoted by Duchemin and Freeman.
In Photoshop, in Camera Raw Filter I brought the exposure down just a tad, then brought up the contrast and highlights around 10-15 each. I then brought down the shadows about the same. I brought up texture and clarity around 10 each, and added a subtle vignette to the photograph.
