This picture is taken by Canon EOS 1100D. I used close focal distance, which made a shallow depth of field. i put my focus on donut at the front. The aperture of this picture is 4.5, and i used the shutter speed of 1/20, because the donut is not moving. the word of this week was 'cynosure' which means thing that attract people's attention. this picture represent the word 'cynosure', because the front light on chocolate of the donut looks the donut more delicious. in addition, by putting focus on donut, it makes the other donut, or the box blurred. The blurring makes the main donut stand more, and attract people's attention, by making people look at the donut, and wants to eat it. As a result, it represent the word, cynosure. Finally, i used artificial light in this picture.

Embracing and exploring prog rock inspirations Porcupine Tree, the band from U.K really made a noteworthy show at Olympen in Lund.
I've been excited about this show since it was announced at Mejeriet in February. It got sold out and they moved it to a bigger venue, which was completely new for me. The good thing about Olympen is definitly the photopit. The bad thing was the lack of varaity in the lighting.
Allthought the lighting was decent with nice background lights and frontlight, but it was either blue wash or red wash with small yellow spots in it.
An other thing that bummed me a bit was the time we got to shot the show. It really felt like five minutes or so, but it's maybe just me. But seriously, if the photographers only are allowed to shot for such a short while, they might wanna consider not having a pitch black intro.
Something that also was new for me was that before the concert they announced that NO photos, video/audio-recordings were allowed. Not at all, not even with cellphone cameras. If they discovered someone doing so they would be kicked out and they encouraged the crowd to tell the guards if they saw somebody who took pictures.
This is really rubish I Think. The next thing is probably that the bands will only allow photographers to shot their concerts if they later on give all the image rights to the band and therefore the photographers loose all their possible profit. If this trend continues, shooting concert days are over.
As you can see this venue does have some pretty cool lighting, but majority of everyones sets were backlit, strobes or frontlighting were in effect as the bands got into breakdowns. At that point the crowd were moving too damn much that I couldn't take advantage.
I liked this shot because of the keyboardist's hair, and just how everyone in the crowd were highlighted.

I got up this morning at 6am, like I normally do for work and I set off for around 6.30am. I couldn't believe how dark it was this morning. Last night we had rain from about 7pm and I don't think it stopped till the early hours. I had to reach for the bike lights this morning and switch them on. I'm a real believer of keeping yourself safe and making sure your bike lights are working. I've seen drivers early in the morning half asleep driving irratic. I've got lights in the back of my helmet too and I'm looking of geting some lights for the road bike too just incase I get caught out in dark nights or dark mornings.
I've never seen 9-X with this frontlight active before!! (photo taken at night outside the entrance to the saab museum)
This random photo I'm using for week 6, doesn't fit my black and white theme like my other photos, but I've been experimenting with trying black and white more and still wanted to add a color photo. (It didn't look right in black and white lol)
This is a reference for all my photos this week in terms of direction of light: Duchemin recommended walking around your subject in a circle. Doing so changes the direction of lighting, creating different feels and looks on your photographs. This is what I tried to keep in mind with all my photos.
My intention with this photo was to try to create a softer look using front light and selective focus to hopefully lead the viewers eyes to the main subject. I struggled with this for a while, and this was the one I was most happy with.
Duchemin said "it's easier to meter and expose with the sun not being in the scene but usually can end up with boring photos because there's no shadows and less depth. They have light and colors but could be more alive. Which I kind of agree with, I feel like this may be the least boring photo this week, but still one I'm satisfied with.
I think the flower looks like its glowing a little too much but I kind of like it that way. I feel like it may be too much for some people's taste. I think it might have turned out to be a much stronger image had I focused on the entire flower, stem and all. All and all it turned out okay, kind of boring, kind of not, but it's beautiful and has nice color.
For editing: I added an exposure gamma layer, took down the exposure, and edited the color balance. I also did some cleaning and editing in ACR.

Site: Kravice waterfalls, near Mostar
Culturogeographical zone: Balkanic Slavs / Illyrian
Nikon D90, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM DX
as for most trips, i will try to diversify the themes. waterfall is planned and we ended up with two locations - one at skradinski buk in krka national park (pronouced ker-ka softly) and the other at kravice near mostar. the 2nd one turn out better due to the high ground available (or either you go near, impossible most of the time, though two of our garangs went into the water to inch forward a few metres more and cut the crowds out, i'm very curious about their results, haven't seen yet).
i think most waterfall, being able to find the vantage, is of uptmost importance. secondly is to be equipped with necessary focal lengths (mine is limited as my lens are missing in certain focal lengths). and lastly having good quality ND filters... we ended up having to share and combine stacked filters (think is 2 x ND4 or ND8...) and only the most diligents of the group manage to catch their silky waterfall. i gave up right at the start and rot with a few others (the boring east asians?) while the adrenaline junkies (mostly caucasian backpackers) enjoyed the waterfall and all the jumps everywhere. my last few mins salvages a postable picture as i leave the place and saw a composition that is decent.
technically, it is difficult to get good results from waterfall itself. in this location, we have backlighting and the waterfall is rather dark. i would wonder if a frontlighting that is harsh is probably just as difficult. in this pic, there is also a large mist that fills most of the bottom part of the waterfall which makes it look washout (or atmospheric??). there is also a portion i blow the highlights just above greeneries above the waterfall...
