Everyone recognizes this car? Right?
Unique look of a busted AMC Pacer. Even tough the later models were made together with French Renault, the AMC Pacer sold badly in Europe. Destined to the forgotten cars pile. Made a famous appearance in the movie Wayne's World in 1992. More info here.
Intention: My intention was to capture all the details and texture of this deer skull using front light.
Reference to the reading : Freeman talks about how In visual terms, black and white allows more expression in the modulation of tone, in conveying texture, the modeling of form, and defining shape
Outcome: With such hard lighting I was able to capture lots of textures and tones in this photo.
Edits: This photo was cropped, turned to black and white. I also added a levels adjustment layer. I turned the contrast up, highlights down, and upped the texture a bit and turned down the clarity. I upped the greens, yellows and blues to darken the background more.

The sun was directly behind me - I was pretty happy with this shot - being the overexposurer that I am! ha.

that's gritty, with a wry, slightly-sinister edge.
Great show! The Rex lighting director likes heavy gels. my 200 mm 2.8
lens held up just fine at iso 1600. The meter got triced a few
times because of the fog and black background. I found myself
over-riding the settings and under exposing when the frontlights came
on to full.

Texas Renaissance Festival, 2009. Specifically went with a shot like this in mind. First show of the day, too. Couldn't get a seat with frontlighting, so this is the best I could do. I love the gesture most of all. Very dynamic.
Some motion blur because I forgot to bump the ISO--was still at ISO100--and was shooting an old Pentax-M 80-200 f/4.5 I have. Nice lens, moderately fast for a long zoom without being huge. I shot this as a focus trap; I was pre-focused at this point at f/5.6 and just hoping for the best.
Third time I've shot Unexpect at Jaxx this year (this time on tour with Japan's Sigh). First time with actual appropriate camera gear (D300 and 17-55). Lighting was brutal though, all backlights, no frontlighting. Lots of flare and ghosts in my photos as a result.
No time last night to process photos but I did pick one to put up as a preview... so here you go. This one kind of captures the spastic energy of Unexpect's show.

Here is the view looking northwest from a hill near the start of Washburn Trail in Joseph D. Grant County Park in Santa Clara County, CA. On this chilly afternoon the sky was graced with some of the most beautiful and glorious clouds I have ever seen! Occasionally - usually in winter - streams of puffy cumulus clouds like these are able to journey inland this far from the Pacific Ocean without dissipating and without completely filling the sky. This is my favorite kind of sky, and on a day like this everything looks beautiful! The park is especially lovely this time of year when its hillsides are covered with lush green grass. I have photographed this graceful old oak tree on a number of occasions, but never with a sky more dramatic than the one seen here. The open pastoral quality of this corner of the park makes its majestic old oaks on rolling grassy hills perfect subjects for photography and painting. Joseph D. Grant County Park is one of my preferred places to explore in the San Francisco Bay area. Here I often have its 9,560 peaceful country acres completely to myself, and I feel free to roam and enjoy to my heart's content. I find this remarkable because the park is just a short drive from the busyness and crowding of San Jose - the second most populous city in our most populous state!
